Coney Island was once a bustling theme park, and is now a New York City historical landmark. Before, though, it belonged to nature.

It's the 1900s. Selena the rabbit is minding her own business and making friends with a girl named Millie. Then they see bulldozers tearing up her dune, and a mean guy threatening to eat rabbits while a nice one named Fred stops him. Millie takes Selena to her house, but they chafe at the injustice. As the park construction continues, they decide to teach the mean guy a lesson, while enjoying the sites.

While Selena has a mischievous streak, she does have a love for exploration. And this story reminds us that construction doesn't happen in a vacuum. There will always be displacement for new things to arrive.

Coney - A Trip to Luna Park is a wonderful trip back in time to the early 20th century and the building of the world famous Luna Park in Coney Island, NY. This graphic novel is written for children, but as an adult native New Yorker, the imagery and history appealed to me. Millie and her new rabbit friend, Selena, explore the newly constructed Luna Park just outside their Coney Island home, but one of the park’s creators is trying to capture Selena. I loved that the book included real people and based the images on actual photographs of the time. The illustrations are gorgeous!

The subject matter of this book is sad, but it ends positively. As for the book being too much for young children, I disagree. They can't be sheltered from everything. This book reminds me of the Secret of NIMH. I watched it when I was little & it is much darker than this book.

This book is absolutely charming. I didn't know anything about the history of Coney Island, but it was nice to see a little glimpse in the sprinkled real life details throughout the story. The art was breathtaking and seemed to perfectly capture that vibrancy you would imagine when these parks opened, as well as feeling appropriate to the period. It was a very cute story overall, with Selena the rabbit and Millie having a fun adventure together in the park.

The illustrations are what drew me in and I am so happy they did! This was so atmospheric with the magical and intricate illustrations! I was so immersed in the story and never wanted the adventure to end with Selena and Millie!

I grew up in New York City and had occasion to visit Coney Island. The illustrations in this adventure to Luna Park will blow your mind. Based on original vintage photographs, they pop off the page and draw young readers into the story..

Selena, a courageus young rabbit, faces eviction from her beloved home among the sand dunes. A new development named Luna Park will erase it from memory. Millie spies Selena and they become good friends. Together they transport readers on a fantasy adventure as the amusement park materializes. I was impressed by the historical accuracy of the tale, but it is the whimsical fantasy adventure combined with lovable, delightful characters capture the young readers' attention.

A fine way to introduce history, empathy, friendship to the minds and hearts of readers ages three to eight.

I can't tell you how much I loved this cute little book. I thought the illustrations were phenomenal. The story was really cute too, although sad at times. I loved going on this little adventure.

I had a hard time putting this book down. The illustrations were beautiful and really helped bring this story to life. We saw two friends visit this breath taking theme park and go on a thrilling adventure together. As this story comes to a close life for them both will never be the same.

Whimsical, sweet, and filled with gorgeous imagery! Would make a sweet bedtime story, especially reading both before and after a trip to coney island itself :) If i were a kid i would love to see how many places and spots on this historic boardwalk i could spot today!

As a Brooklyn native, this book stood out to me by the visual cover. The unique book is clearly aimed towards NYC readers that love the area and the history behind it. Everything cool and nostalgic about Coney Island for anyone growing up around the area is showcased here.

Coney - A Trip to Luna Park by Jeffrey Lindberg was a bright and cheerful, historically inspired picture book about the beginnings of what came to be known as Coney Island. The art was unique and immersive, the characters were simple but sweet, and the story was interesting. I'd never really read anything about Coney Island before, so it was cool to learn a few behind the scenes type trivia as well. Would recommend for kids and fans of picture books like me. :-)

The illustrations by the author are intricate, delightful, colorful, vibrant, and imaginative while bringing to life the old photos of Luna Park on Coney Island, Brooklyn.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age and also for ESL readers.
I really want to get one for my local public library and the Brooklyn Library (where my daughter lives)!

Fun story about the erection of Coney Island and the early 1900's. The villain in this story has no real incentive and feels forced.
Teaching kids to get revenge on mean people doesn't seem like the best lesson, but they all become friends in the end.

This was such a fun book. It’s a bit about the building of Luna Park which becomes Coney Island but it’s also about a little rabbit and a little girl. This little rabbit lost their sand dune home when the park was built. While the specific story of Millie and Celine is fake, the other part of the story about the park and the owners is all real. The artist even used pictures from the original Luna part to do the illustrations in this book. All around the stories wonderful, if a little long, but it is fantastically full of new and interesting information

This adorable children’s book tells the story of a rabbit who was displaced from her home by the building of an amusement park. I thought the story was cute and the illustrations were beautiful.
I enjoyed seeing what Coney Island looked like in 1904. I highly recommend this book. As an adult, I’m looking forward on checking out the website that the author gave a link to, so I can learn more about Coney Island.

The artwork is colorful and bright and fun to look at. It's obvious Jeffrey Lindberg is passionate about this book and I loved reading about how he was inspired. I just didn't find anything compelling enough about the story itself that I could see revisiting, even with my youngest son. I'd love to see Jeffrey do a book for older kids or adults that focused on the history of Coney Island. I'd want to read that!

This whimsical book transports readers back to 1904 Coney Island through the eyes of the rabbits whose home was replaced by the amusement park. Though I felt a little sad for the creatures and nature surrounding the park in the beginning, those feelings were soon replaced by the feelings of wonder and adventure that accompany the new park as the rabbits begin to explore their new surroundings. The detailed and glowing illustrations help set this exciting atmosphere and the clever ending ties the story up well.
