This is a sweet YA romance fantasy. It started with a young queen giving birth a daughter. A Demi god was supposed to give the newborn a blessing but a curse as ordered by a dark king. To the demigod’s surprise, another babe is born resulting in identical twins. One is cursed and another isn’t. Mother passed away and one of the twins is carried away quickly and quietly with a severe warning to others who were in the same room by the older Queen who demands that everyone else is to know of the twin’s death along with the mother who died in birthing the twins.
More than 20 years later, we find Meren is still the secret twin training to protect her sister at all costs. Meren meets up with her twin after their grandmother the Queen died. Her sister is next in line. After meeting up with her sister, Meren was kidnapped mistaken for her twin.
I adore this story. I love all the characters as they were well developed throughout the book. I was SO hooked from the beginning. Meren and Reven is one of the cutest fantasy couples of all time! I need to dive into next book, The Stolen Crown because there was a cliff hanger at the end of the liar’s crown.
You guys will not be disappointed. It has magic, good and bad, dangers, battles, Robin Hood feels in the forest and many more!
Four high stars from me!
Thank you for this awesome ARC eBook, Entangled:Teen and Netgalley!!
As usual, all of my reviews are purely my own opinions without any influence from any publishers.

Twin sisters have secretly been sharing the throne of the dominion of Aryd for decades because of a longstanding threat to their kingdom. Unbeknownst to everyone else, their queen is actually two different people—one the heir and one the spare. Meren has been raised with the sole purpose of stepping into her sister's life if things should ever go wrong—which they promptly do after the reigning queen unexpectedly passes.

I thought this was a solid start to a new (to me) fantasy series. It has a really unique world-building that I think others will find interesting as well, however, some aspects of the plot could have been better developed (I know that we slowly gain information as the story/series progresses, but even when that happened, it didn’t feel like it necessarily explained previous things fully or that they connected properly). Either way, I did enjoy the story and it left me wanting to know how everything ends!

Also, I just want to say how pretty the cover is! From what I can tell, it looks like embroidery and I love that. I wish I had a physical copy because I’m sure it is stunning in person.

I thought that the premise of the book was really interesting. When I first saw this book I had high hopes and I was a little disappointed by the outcome. While I did enjoy the book, it didn't really capture my attention and I felt like the romance was a bit forced. I will probably read the next book because I did enjoy the writing and I do think that the book has potential. I recommend this book to fans of Shadow and Bone and Twin Crowns.

This book is an absolute masterpiece. From the first word, it hooks you in and doesn't let go until the very end. The story revolves around Meren, a nobody living in squalor who happens to be the secret identical twin of Tabra, the princess of Aryd. Meren's purpose in life is to serve as a replacement for her sister in times of danger, and there's no shortage of danger for their family with Eidolon, the immortal king of Tyndra, killing off Arydan queens for generations.

Meren has secret acts of disobedience that are just for her, and Reven, the Shadowraith, also has his own secrets, including the ability to manipulate shadows. When Meren takes Tabra's place at the coronation to protect her, Reven kidnaps Meren instead. As Meren tries to escape from him, secrets are revealed and nothing is what it seems.

This YA fantasy novel is full of intrigue, fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic backstories, secrets, mystical coincidences, snark, laughs, and unexpected plot twists. But it's also a deeply emotional book that tells the story of stunted, damaged, and bruised characters who find their way together by owning their choices, recognizing their scars, finding their strength, embracing life, and deciding to be the best version of themselves. At its heart, it's a story about the power of choice.

The book is well-written with characters who have a lot of depth, witty dialogue, and an engaging storyline. The adventure of Meren and Reven will give you all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, gasping, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

My God this book was so good. I absolutely love it. The world building phenomenal. The plot heart gripping. The characters, chef's kiss. The enemies to lovers, omg.im obsessed. I love it.

Meren and Reven. This grumpy shadowboy and Foul mouthed princess. I couldn't get enough of it. My heart just got so fluttery. This story was so funny and heart warming and blushy and I just can't get enough of it and will be diving into book 2 real soon.

I loved seeing Reven's heart change into loving Meren and him fighting his shadows to protect her. The way he helped her through her fears and how she in turn became his rock to help keep his shadows at bay.

Quotes I loved:

" Don't let me fall, " " Never"

"Well cut off my head and call me a basan. "- 😂😂

" Touch me without permission again and I'll cut your balls off"- Meren is just so badass. I love her

And so much more.

Can't wait for book 2.

4,5/5 stars

The Liar's Crown had me hooked from start to end by its plot, the world in which it takes place and its characters.

Meren was born to replace her twin sister Tabra, princess of Aryd, in dangerous situations, so she must live in the shadows, hidden and without telling anyone the truth of her identity. But everything changes when on the day of the coronation she is mistakenly kidnapped by the enemy.

One of the points in favor of this book is that it has short chapters and there is action from the beginning. Personally, I appreciate that the author goes to the point and explains what is fair and necessary at the beginning about the main characters and the kingdom they inhabit. In some books the beginning is so long that it bores, here it does not happen. The first three chapters are introductory and the main plot begins in the fourth. It is an enemies to lovers, so there is no lack of a tug of war between Meren and Reven, the main characters, something that I love and it has been a lot of fun. There is no love triangle, so if you are the type of person who does not like that cliché you can read it without problems. A fantasy story in which the female leader's powers will have a very important role, either to save the domains or to destroy them.

The world in which it takes place seems quite original to me. It is divided into six domains, each having its own Goddess. The kingdom of Meren and Tabra is called Aryd, and it is where part of the story takes place. A desert domain surrounded by a barrier created by its Goddess and in danger of running out of water. Another of the domains that appears is Tyndra, a frozen land, home to Eidolon (Aryd's enemy), an immortal King who hides a terrible secret. And another curiosity is that people are divided into two classes, people who have powers and those who have not, "Vex". And in turn, people with powers are divided into Hylorae and Enfernae. Nothing complicated to understand.

And finally I want to talk about the characters. This is what caught my attention and I liked the most about the book. Meren is the type of female leader that I love, the one who doesn't give up and has a huge heart, capable of sacrificing herself to help others. During this first book, she undergoes an evolution, both personally and with her powers, and that makes her more charismatic. Reven, on the other hand, is a trunk full of secrets that are revealed little by little, leaving someone vulnerable in plain sight. As I said before, the dynamics of these two is the best in the book, scenes of tension interspersed with the most comical moments that have made me laugh more than once.

Abigail Owen has been a pleasant surprise for me as an author. And I can only recommend this fantasy trilogy, full of action, romance, magic and secrets.

Wow I loved this so much!

Meren and Tabra are twin princess and now the Queen is dead. However Meren is basically a hidden stand-in to protect her twin. One day pretending to be her sister, she is taken.

Meren assumes it's the evil King Eidolan......but
what a guy the kidnapper is! Reven. The Shadow Wraith!

I must admit the magic system was a bit confusing as there was a few types but I got there in the end!

However here's the stuff I loved:

~ The bond between the twins
~ The world building
~ Reven and Meren's chemistry
~ The pace and plot were spot on
~ The secondary characters were fleshed out and totally likable.

Bring on book 2!

I am addicted. I devoured this book within 24 hours. I read both my ebook copy and, in order to keep reading while I had to do chores around the house, I borrowed the audiobook from my local library. The audiobook narrator was amazing, so I can recommend both the book and the audiobook.

I LOVE the FMC. Meren is so funny and a complete badass. I love how she's terrified of what's going on around her, but she refuses to let it show. Instead, she has some gamazing, witty banter. Speaking of banter, her banter with Reven had me rolling. Reven is such a good and likable MMC. He's very mysterious while also having the "hurt her and you'll die" vibes.

I adored the romance in this. The tension between Meren and Reven is just TOO good. There's so many good steamy scenes. I was panting. Their chemistry is hot hot hot hot.

The world building was also great. The author is very good at giving vivid depictions of the world around Meren. I loved the Shadowhood the most (it very much gave me Peter Pan and the lost boys vibes).

Great YA romantasy. I also saw somewhere that this series might go more New Adult? If that's true, I CANNOT WAIT.

The Liar’s Crown starts off at a slow pace to help us understand Meren’s responsibilities and to get to know the political subterfuge throughout the kingdoms. I didn’t get invested in the characters until about 30% in. Overall, I enjoyed the this fantasy. Recommend to high fantasy lovers.

At the heart of every great romance novel is the relationship between the main characters. Whether it is a slow-burning love story that builds over time or an intense, passionate connection that ignites immediately, the chemistry between the characters is what draws readers in. And it was extremely clear here in this book, making me root for the characters that much more. With their engaging characters, swoon-worthy love stories, and wonderful world building, The Liar’s Crown is sure to capture your heart and leave you wanting more.

I'm really loving these romantasy releases that have been coming out. Among the many, The Liar's Crown was such an enjoyable diversion. I don't know that it's for everyone, but it certainly hit me in a happy spot.
Meren's birth doesn't mean much for the world, but means everything to her twin. She isn't meant to be in the limelight, her whole purpose is to sacrifice and protect her sister. When the time comes to take her sister's place, her mistaken identity leads to a kidnapping and maybe a little Stockholm syndrom. I say this lightly, but, at it's root, that's exactly what it is and I was here for the entire journey.
With book two on the horizon, I'm eager to see what happens with Meren and Reven in the fall out. The ending was exactly what I wanted from a series beginner, satisyfying but open-ended.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for the advanced copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Many thanks to Entangled Publishing for a gifted copy of the ebook for The Liar's Crown. I thought the concept of the book was interesting. Twin girls, one who is destined to rule and one who simply doesn't exist in the eyes of the world. There are some great tropes in this one like enemies to lovers and mistaken identity. I think there are also hints of a love triangle brewing. Be forewarned there is a cliffhanger. It's slow to start but it picked up and I didn't see some of it coming. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel soon as I was lucky enough to receive an early copy.

Meren is a decoy for her twin sister Tabra, the crown princess. Both of them have abilities that the evil King Eidolon wants to possess. He’s been killing off queens for generations and stealing their powers. To prevent him from succeeding, his rogue Shadowraith named Reven kidnaps the sister he thinks will be queen. Little does he know he’s abducted the wrong one. As they get to know each other, Meren and Reven form a bond. They collect allies on their journey to safety, but is anywhere really safe from the king? And what will happen to Tabra? Meren must return to save her sister regardless of her personal jeopardy. Twin royal sisters, immersive world-building, and a suspenseful plot make for an easy reading experience, although be warned the story doesn’t end here. You must read the sequel for the conclusion.

In the Liar's Crown by Abigail Owen we meet a hidden twin to the princess destined to inherit a throne who is kidnapped in her sister's place and secrets begin to unravel all around her.

What i loved
1. body double trope using the idea that every other generation twins are born within the royal family
2. exploration of the effects of not being able to have one's identity
3.unique magic system
4. forced proximity trope

What didn't work as well for me
1. bad pacing for building the chemistry between the main character and love interest.
2. a few of the twists were more trope adhering than expected.

Who I would recommend this book for
The Liar's crown is a perfect read for fantasy lovers wanting a dash of mystery and political intrigue in their next read.

This one did not disappoint, I have seen several friends enjoy it and I wanted to give it a try.It was a wild NA adventure fantasy I thoroughly enjoyed, I love a good royal story and sibling bonding especially if it involves twins. The world building is brilliant and beautifully done, the writing is simple and the pacing is steady, I adore the strong protagonists and their relationship is something I had never read/experienced before.

I say it is such a unique way to present a morally gray character like Reven and Meren the FMC is equally strong, I enjoyed their chemistry and I also I devoured the twists that came through out the book. The secondary characters were also pretty impressive along with magic system that kept me intrigued, overall such a promising plot that kept my interested until the very end.I liked the whole concept of shadow magic and the curse that plays a pivotal role in the plot, I think the antagonist in this one has to be one of the interesting villains I have read in recent times. The ending was pretty good, it was satisfying and at the same time left me wanting to read the next book asap. So excited to pick up the sequel!

This was a bit of a whirlwind, but not super predictable! With enemies to lovers and some great tension, too.

The Liar's Crown by Abigail Owen is the first in a new series. One twin, Tabra, is the crown princess, learning and preparing to take her mother's crown one day. The other, Meren, is unknown to all but her mother, sister and aunt. Her duty is to be a body double should anything happen to her first born sister. After the death of the queen, Meren steps in for her sister and is kidnapped by the infamous Shadowraith. With the "wrong" princess taken, and the crown princess still moving forward with the coronation, the political panic leading to change does not happen. I really enjoyed the magic in this story and the world building was wonderful. Both sisters had their own unique personalities. Meren attempting to imitate her somewhat spoiled sister was a bit much for me, and I felt she accepted her kidnapper a bit quickly. I tend not to enjoy the romance side of YA stories, but the crossover nature of the romantic interests in this story kept my interest. Overall this was a very enjoyable read.

The Liar’s Crown is a fast-paced and action-packed novel about a decoy who disguises herself as a princess. I found the protagonist to be very strong and smart. The other characters were also very likable. I like the humor, political intrigue, and romance! I loved the ending and can’t wait for the sequel! I recommend this novel for fans of Castles in their Bones, Twin Crowns, and The Fake Princess!
