I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

TW: Suicide, self harm, mental illness

Pleasant Valley Treatment Center is there for those who have attempted suicide and hopes to help them so there is not another attempt. Tobias has a recent attempt and is admitted a new resident to Pleasant Valley. He is faced with the idea of healing and for him that can be challenging but he finds he isnt the only one. We meet other characters such as Bullfrog, Matthew, Darla, Derek, Kate, and Liz. Bullfrog has severe burns but no one know why while Matthew, star football player, struggles with peoples expectations of him. Darla is fairly spoiled and used to getting all she wants but she faces a new challenge in her recovery. We learn about Renee who would rather be reading, Derek who is trying to fight his schizophrenia, Kate who does not trust anyone and Liz who is struggling immensly with bi polar. They all start to progress until Tobias starts going backwards. Together the group bans together to help him and learn they could be helping themselves too.

I enjoyed the book but I wont lie, it was tough to read. There is a lot of sensitive topics in the book that if you arent careful can be triggering. It really delves into what leads into the way we are and how our expierences can shape how we become who we are. I did think there was too many characters and got tripped up at times of the story line. It was an emotional, raw, and thought provoking book.

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read a copy of "Insanely Sane" by Jasmine Shouse.

This novel is about a group of teens who have been admitted into a treatment facility/center for one reason or another - each of them comes with their own situational trauma/baggage, but each of their personalities ties the book together beautifully. The mental health representation element is *on point* or "spot on*. You definitely should search up trigger warnings before reading this novel if that's the sort of thing that is going to get to you, because this book is intense - raw, emotional, etc. Each of these six main characters within this novel could totally have their own separate stories.

Overall, I rated this novel a 5/5 stars!

I downloaded this one, then it took me too long to read it. I just didn't feel the "mood". Boy, was I wrong. I LOVED this book.

This is about a group of teens that are in a facility because of some trauma in their lives. The story alternates between each of the characters in the group. You hear each of their stories.

Boy, have these kids been through some horrible stuff. And among them, you have cutters, suicidal teens, one who doesn't speak..

As you read about their personal struggles, you also read about how they support each other, they understand each other and they build relationships.

As you read about their therapies, so many things made me stop and think "what a great way to look at this". And I may have even discovered a few tools to use in my own arsenal.

The only negative to me was just my opinion. But with so many characters, it was hard to develop that totally connection to each one. As you would get invested in one "oops we are on to someone new". Rather than skipping around, maybe a little more from each one in one go? Just my own person thoughts.

I want to thank the author, the publisher and #netgalley for the ARC which did not impact my review. I just really enjoyed this book!
4.5 stars - rounding to 5.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
I usually enjoy books that take place at treatment centers. I did enjoy this book but I feel like there were too many characters and I kept having to stop and think of why each character was in the treatment center. Maybe that was because I'm reading another book at the same time.
Each of these characters could have a stand alone book. Overall, an engaging read.

I loved this book.

So well written and the list of characters with a variety of addictions is an honest and real look at addiction.

I read a lot of non fiction books on addiction and rarely fiction ones because fiction cannot do justice to why and who is addicted.

This book is the exception.

So good, so raw. We get to discover the characters slowly, but we get a full understanding of them, as the book goes on.

You end up loving all the characters despite their flaws.

Great read.

This was a well-written book and I’m glad I got the opportunity to read it. However, there were so many characters that I had trouble keeping them all straight in my head. Thanks for letting me check it out!

Insanely Sane in theory checks off a lot of my interest boxes, and should really have been a home run for me, but it fell a little bit flat.

I struggled with the sheer volume of characters, whose voices were not super differentiated from one another, so I was often confused by whose point of view I was reading from. I also didn't find myself drawn to most of the POV characters' stories. That being said, I would happily read entire novels just about Derek and Bullfrog.

A lot of the storylines felt a little unresolved for me at the end, and the kintsugi reference felt a bit forced.

“You guys get it, even when you don’t” is an important them in this book and I think what anyone is looking for in the people they love in the world. You don’t have to get how someone is thinking or feeling in order to to “get it” or be empathetic and nonjudgmental. All the young people in this book have found themselves at this facility because they have undergone some trauma that has made them make poor choices. Over the course of the book you hear their stories and struggles and learn their thought processes. You also get to see the friendships they build and the support they provide for each other. The book also details the therapies they go through and quite honestly I should learn to practice more than a few of the strategies they learn in my own life. This books feels like a self-help therapy book slipped into a YA novel and I am not even a little bit mad about that!

TW: Death, murder, sexual abuse, mental health issues and treatment.

Insanely sane is a story of a group of teenagers at a treatment centre for teens with mental health issues. The six teens in the story are admitted after certain unfortunate events. Each one has a backstory that made them the way they are ranging from sexual abuse to dysfunctional family to personality disorders. Though treatment is something that everyone gets, how they receive it and actually make efforts to come out of there makes a difference.

Firstly, as I am not qualified in mental health, I don't know if the procedures and treatments mentioned in the book are correct. I read it as the story of six young people. Each of them has faced terrible situations in life at a very young age. Their stories are a mirror to the filth in the society we live in and how it destroys young lives.

It is endearing to see these six warm up to each other, empathise with each other's stories when they are ready and look out for each other's safety. They understood each other's malady like nobody else would. They join in as individuals and evolve as friends.

The author has chosen a discussion that is the dire need of the hour - teen mental health. The book talks about extremely relatable situations which we must have seen with our own friend circle during teenage. At certain instances when the teens are narrating their stories, we are compelled to pause and question ourselves about the world our kids are growing in.

This book is a suitable young-adult read because it actually talks about solutions. No, doing exercise and waking up early doesn't cure depression. Trying not to be gay doesn't change sexuality. Forgiving the abuser doesn't help with the trauma of sexual abuse. These aren't solutions. Sometimes, we know the solution. All we need is someone to listen and tell us that it is okay.
I received a review copy and I am posting my review voluntarily.

Extremely well written, engrossing and vibrant. Draws the reader in from the first page and holds your interest. The author makes you feel like you are there with the characters. Despite dealing with heavy topics this was an enjoyable and very readable book. Definitely recommend !
