This is a beautifully laid out cookbook. There are pictures for every recipe which I really appreciate. There are a lot of basic/classic recipes, as well as some I’ve never heard of or considered. This would be great for a beginner or someone who wants to try something a little more fancy. Unfortunately I was not able to try one of the recipes yet, but I will likely try the London fog slice and bake cookies first.
Overall this is a great cookbook for the cozy bakers.

I have not read this bloggers page before, but I was more than happily surprised with this cookbook. There are many recipes in this wonderful book that I will continue to make, much to the delight of my children. Their favorite so far the peaches and cream muffins - so tasty! Thank you for access to the ARC - I will be purchasing a hard copy for my shelf!

Comfort Baking offers twists on breakfast favorites, snacks and decadent bake goods that bring more than comfort.

Frosted Cookie Butter Brownies, Strawberry Pretzel Cheesecake Bars, Wild Blueberry French Toast Casserole, and Snickerdoodle Cookie Peach Cobbler just to name a few.

I really like the inclusion of tips and the author goes out of her way to make sure if you have leftovers which I doubt most of us will if baking for family and friends, you know how to store properly for a second helping.

This is the recipe that should hook you into trying some comfort baking --. Dark Chocolate Cobbler and as the author shares, who says cobbler is only a fruity domain.

We all need a little comfort here and there – and this one will have your mouth watering. My favorite portion is that dedicated to bringing over comforting goodies to family and friends – we all know someone or a group of people from time to time that need comfort and a little sign of love, but it can be difficult to know exactly what to bring, and how much to make. This solves the problem perfectly with easy to follow exceedingly – yes – cozy and comfy baking that will have you warm from the inside out. Some of my special shoutouts go to: Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread, Nutty Brown Butter Banana Bread, Spiced Apple Cider Donut Muffins, Strawberry Sour Cream Pound Cake, Salted Caramel Apple Scones, Lox Bagel Breakfast Casserole, Soft and Pillowy Cinnamon Rolls (Jesus Christ), Braided Raspberry and Cream Cheese Bread, and more. Literally – I am not even a sweets person and EVERYTHING in this book looks incredible.

Comfort Baking
Feel-Good Food to Savor and Share
Author: Stephanie Wise

eARC and Cookbook Review
Release Date: October 18, 2022

My rating: 5/5 stars

Stephanie Wise’s cookbook, Comfort Baking, left me motivated and ready to tackle any recipe I set my mind to.

The cookbook, which was comprised of a plethora of muffin, bread, cookie, cake, and other sweet treat recipes, was beautifully curated. It offered a wide variety of baked goods, great for any experience level. The recipes themselves were well written and easy to follow.

Additionally, the formatting and design of the book was beautiful. It was clean, modern, and flowed really well. The images used throughout were high quality and matched the recipes very well (this isn’t always the case with some cookbooks).

I appreciated the introduction piece, which talked about Wise’s background in baking, how she came to be, as well as many helpful tips! Unlike cooking, baking does require more tedious measurements and tools. The introduction did a great job of listing out common equipment, common ingredients, and useful baking tips.

I will definitely be purchasing a hard copy of this once it it published! I cannot wait to try my hand at the skillet cornbread, salted caramel apple scones, and frosted cookie butter brownies!

That you NetGalley, Herald Press, and Stephanie Wise for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book includes everything from loaves, cakes and tarts to more savoury oven delights like stews and lasagne, Each recipe is beautifully photographed and the recipes are clearly written and easy to follow, even for the novice baker. Sure to be covered in flour in no time, Comfort Baking by Stephanie Wise is a welcome addition to any baker's cookbook library.

My thanks to NetGalley and Herald Press for the opportunity to preview this title in exchange for my honest review.

Prior to reading Comfort Baking, I was unfamiliar with Ms Wise and her "Girl Versus Dough" blog. Now I have it bookmarked! The title and cover image lend to an idea that the book will be full of dessert recipes, but there is a wide variety of items to cover any part of a meal or day. The food photography is beautifully done, and the recipes are very straightforward, easy to understand, and to follow. I'm eager to try many of these! In addition, I appreciate how easy these will be to convert to allow any of my allergy kids to enjoy.

My thanks to NetGalley and Herald Press for the opportunity to preview this title in exchange for my honest review.

I think this cookbook had some recipes that I would like to make in the future, especially the cornbread and some of the biscuit recipes.
I think the thing that I couldn’t get over was the inconsistent format of the recipes. I know that sounds weird, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cookbook where they didn’t format the recipes the same. In this book, sometimes the ingredient list was before the rest of the recipe and sometimes it was at the end. Sometimes the photos were before the recipe, sometimes they were in the middle, sometimes they were at the end. I found it distracting and an odd choice. Personally, I’m not sure why you would ever not put the ingredients first. A lot of people have food allergies or don’t like certain ingredients, and being able to skim the ingredients quickly helps people know whether they are interested in that recipe.
I thought it was interesting that the author chose to also include recipes for some baked entrees, like Mac and cheese.
When I read in the introduction that her focus is very heavy on the Bible, I was a little nervous because that’s not really what I was looking for in this book. I do feel like the religious content was pretty minimal.
I liked the food photography and felt like there was a good amount of photos, which is always a plus for a cookbook. I also think this would be a good book for someone just starting out on baking. The beginning she breaks down a lot of basics, like using common sense instead of only listening to the recipe, which I think is something a lot of beginning bakers don’t know to do. And I think if you already know the basics, that is an easy section to skip.

This is my new favorite cookbook on baking! The photos are beautiful and I appreciate that each recipe has an accompanying photo to know what the finished product will look like. This is a book for beginners as well as experienced bakers. The recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients are pretty basic. The beginning of the book has numerous, wonderful pages on instructions, tips, and hints for everything from ingredients to measuring cups to cooking times. I will definitely be purchasing this book for gifts. Highly recommended.

I need another baking book like I need a hole in my head but I know when this book is released I’ll be ordering it for sure..it’s the sort of book that can be used daily or weekly.. you don’t need to go to 4 stores for hard to find ingredients and you won’t need to dirty every bowl in your kitchen to prepare any of these recipes..The photos are very pretty. As soon as it’s cool enough to put the oven on I’ll definitely be trying the strawberry sour cream pound cake, wild blueberry French toast casserole and the snickerdoodle cookie peach cobbler..Measurements are provided in cups only. Thank you to NetGalley for the arc copy of the delightful Comfort Baking.

Her recipes are easy to follow and the language is so down to earth - like a friend helping you in the kitchen. I loved her bonus recipes at the end of the book - the salted caramel sauce - yum! My 12 year old daughter was able to use this too - she made the malted chocolate cake (but in cupcake form… and with extra toppings). I will be purchasing this book - it’s a gem!

I am DROOOOOOOLING - from the recipes to the photos, I want almost everything in this cookbook to get in my belly. And what's amazing is that there are 20+ recipes in here that I want to make. Like literally right now. AND they aren't ridiculously complicated! This is baking for a normal human being - and comfortable at that. She also includes instructions on how to line pans, level flour, etc that the standard cookbook omits and I am SO grateful! No more lining circular pans wrong for me. (Also she does cream cheese icing on her cinnamon rolls, which is my sanity check for any dessert-y cookbook)

Comfort Baking is full of yummy looking recipes that I can’t wait to try. I haven’t made anything out of this cookbook yet, but so many of the recipes sparked my interest and looked really good. This cookbook has everything from muffins to bread and dinner to dessert. The pictures made the recipes even more intriguing and I really liked seeing the section after each recipe that told you how you could save your baked product for later. I’m a huge fan of making and freezing breads and muffins for later and this cookbook told me just how to do it. I would definitely recommend this cookbook to someone looking for some new recipes. I am excited to try some of these new recipes out.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this cookbook!

Comfort Baking, Feel Good Food To Savor And Share, is precisely what you need when you or somebody you know needs to feel bit better. Whether you’re the baker or the eater, both will find solace in this cookbook.

I’ve always heard of comfort eating, but comfort baking was quite new to me before this book. But I can really see how the act of baking can be just as comforting as eating the results. Beginning with an introduction, the author describes her rather roundabout way of getting into baking in the first place. Followed by her transition to her blog “Girl Versus Dough”, her definition of “Comfort Baking”, “Sharing Spiritual Gifts” and finally winding up with an explanation of how to use the book effectively.

After the Introduction, and the author explains her Baking Tips, Common Ingredients and Common Equipment. All of which are required reading if you want to make the best use of these recipes. The author not only shares her best tips for making life easier in the kitchen but also when and how to substitute (ingredients or equipment) and when you should not.

The recipe categories include:

Quick Breads and Muffins
Breakfast and Brunch
Cookies and Bars
Cakes of All Kinds
Pies, Tarts, Crisps, and Crumbles
Breads
Meals to Bring to Family and Friends
Bonus Recipes

After a thorough reading of the Introduction along with the Tips, Ingredients and Equipment section I believe I have learned a great deal. Many recipes I’ve dealt with in the past have called for very specific specialty devices and I’ve never known whether or not they’ve been strictly required. There will be no hesitation in any of the recipes should you follow the introductory information because the author has very clearly spelled out what can and cannot be changed.

The Save For Later feature is one thing that I enjoyed most about these recipes. As part of a family of two I can’t normally justify baking an entire cake or a full set of muffins or whatever because it will go bad before it can be fully eaten. Many of the recipes include the Save For Later section describing what you will need to freeze or otherwise preserve your leftovers.

Beautiful photographs with easy to follow recipes with accessible ingredients. I am a huge fan of quick breaks and breakfast bars so it was great to see new variations that I could try. Mixed in with new recipes are classics but the majority of the book has bakery level offerings for you to make. For once I wasn’t skipping over recipes to try! The ones I did try were amazing! If you have a sweet tooth this is definitely for you.
