First novel I have read by the author and it is a corker! Switching between late 90s Belfast and Anglesey in the modern day, In Too Deep is a page turning crime novel treat. Plenty of twists and turns along the way in the storyline keep the reader turning those pages with increasing speed.

John is working under cover for British intelligence in Ireland having infiltrated a division of the IRA. He is a decorated soldier who was in both the Irish Guards and the SAS. But just who is he really and how has he ended up dead and buried in Anglesey? They novel follows present day detectives pricing together the mystery of the remains and John's past!

Wasnt expecting the ending it came as a real surprise. Absolutely loved this novel and will be looking for more from this author. Would love to hear more about Gareth and Laura's relationship and if they can make it work.

Many thanks NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this kind blowing thriller. Highly recommended!!!!

I received my preview copy of this book in return for a frank review and whilst it was very well written it took me a long time to read as I found it difficult to get into . However, my husband read it too and he did enjoy it.

A tip is called in to report a skeleton found on the grounds of a ruined castle, DI Laura Hart is called in to investigate and she is determined to prove she can solve it. When they begin to think they have solved who the skeleton belongs to, questions pop up that aren't so easily answered. The closer they get the more bodies turn up.
The story is told in two timelines that eventually reveal the real true behind the skeleton. The story was fast paced and kept me interested until the conclusion. This was my first read by this author but I will be looking for more.

Book 2 in the series, set in beautiful Anglesey. A well written crime novel with a return of some familiar characters.
This book is so well written, forcing you to keep on reading as it is addictive. A great author with a captivating storyline. Not to be missed.

A very clever police procedural. there is a dual time aspect to this book - John Kelly is a decorated war hero who goes undercover in Belfast seeking to infiltrate the IRA. in the late 90s. A body turns up on Anglesey in 2021 and is thought to be John Finn who disappeared in the late 90s. Who is it and who killed him and why is the main focus of the novel and there are good twists and turns in the story line. This is the second of a series but reads well enough as a stand-alone novel. Well written, engaging story.

A fantastic twisted read that is totally unputdownable. I read this in one sitting as it gripped me from page one. There are so many elements to the book I would never be able to pick out a few bits to give you a decent synopsis.
Simon McCleave is a master of this genre.
I have added him to my must read list and already started working my way through his books.
I definitely recommend this book.

I haven’t read the first book in this series, and while book 2 works very well as a standalone book, I will definitely be reading The Dark Tide to discover more of
the backstory of the protagonist, her team and family life.

In Too Deep is a fast paced read from the very first page. Set in two timelines, the present day and the 1990’s, it is easy to switch between the two without any confusion. With plenty of twists and turns and a cliffhanger ending, it was a book that kept me eagerly turning the pages. Well written with a believable plot and characters, I am looking forward to book 3. 4.5*

Thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy in return for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book, the story is complexed and it demanded all of my concentration. It is set in two different time frames but I slipped easily from one to the other. All in all a very entertaining read, loved it

This time, is she in too deep?
Two months since ex-Police Negotiator Laura Hart was forced back into action after the kidnap of her son, she has re-joined the force as a DI. When a skeleton is found in a crumbling castle ruin near the seaside town of Beaumaris, Anglesey, she can’t wait to prove herself by solving the case.
The victim is identified as Jamie McCann. The only thing anyone seems to know about him is that he disappeared without a trace twenty years ago.
When Laura’s investigation leads her to MI5 and the Real IRA, she knows she’s on the trail of something truly explosive. But some people will do anything to stop their secrets coming out. With the threat drawing in and her family yet again in danger, is she in too deep?

This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series!
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.
Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down.
Can't wait to read more of these.
Recommend reading.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

Quite a good detective book set over different time periods in Ireland and North Wales. Our female detective, Laura, starts back at work having been out after her husband was killed . Although part of a series, it reads fine as a stand alone. Within the first week back at work, quite a lot starts happening, bones are found which may link to the disappearance of a man from the area 20 years earlier.
I like the detectives and their reasoning and conversations . The main investigation has a couple of twists along the way and suspense is built up as witnesses are found murdered and Laura's home life seems to be at risk. She has started a relationship with a collegue which is complicated and parts of that side story seemed to stretch reality. Another thread in the book was the death of her husband and his co workers.... which distracted a little from the main story for me. Perhaps that was a leftover from the previous installment ?
I would like to read more about this team though and I thank Net Galley for the opprtunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review .

DI Laura is just back at work after a long time off work after her husband was murdered whilst on duty in Manchester. She has moved to Anglesey and is expecting a quieter life than in the city.. But first day back a body is discovered; tracking down who it was and how long its been there will lead to historic crimes and threats to her children and herself. Full of action, a complex and twisting plot takes you down may false assumptions before all is revealed - a page-turner and a good read ..

After reading "The Dark Tide" last May, I was eager to revisit this series with book two, "In Too Deep". I'm certain this is a police procedural series that I will follow avidly.

The rich characterization added depth to the crime story with insights into what made the various characters tick. I liked how the author delved into the police officer's personal lives as it gave the story more of a human interest angle.

There were a few excellent plot twists that I did not anticipate. Also, I learned a few things about the IRA's activities after the Good Friday Agreement was signed.

The continuing attraction between Laura and Gareth added a romantic interest to the novel and adds some tension now that they are co-workers of equal rank in the North Wales Police Force.

The pacing was steady and leant an urgency to the narrative. I'm certain that fans of the police procedural sub-genre will relish these characters and this series. Recommended!

In Too Deep by Simon McCleave is the second book in the brilliant The Anglesey Series which is set on the Isle of Anglesey, Wales, and has Detective Inspector Laura Hart which I love this character . This latest book had me gripped from the beginning till the end. It's a fast-paced crime thriller with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing till the end which made it another 5 star book.

I highly recommend this book and it can be read as a standalone but I do recommend to go back and read the first book which was called The Dark Tide.

The second book in the Angelsey series is full of complex characters. It has an intense, immersive quality that draws the reader into the story. The discovery of remains on the site of a historic castle begins a twisty tale that quickly moves into two strands, one in Northern Ireland during the late nineties and the second the police investigation on Angelsey in present times. The police investigation dynamic is believable, with distinct characterisation and a good mix of personal and professional lives to make what happens to the protagonists matter to the reader.

The historic parts of the story are well-researched, and they gradually inform the current situation, but there are significant twists which keep the reader enthralled. It is readable as a standalone but reading the next book in the series is a must.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

The first book by this author I have read and although this is the second in a series it can be read as a stand alone story. I loved the fact it was set in Wales, the characters were interesting and the story line gripping. Great twist at the end.

This is the second book in the Anglesey Series, and another excellent read from Simon McCleave. I am growing to love these books as much as the DI Ruth Hunter Series. It helps that they are set in the far North-West corner of Wales that I feel always adds an extra flavour to the books.

It starts off with an innocuous discovery of a skeleton in a crumbling castle ruin near the seaside town of Beaumaris, Anglesey. Quickly events take a far more sinister twist and turn, and leads to the case having connections to Northern Ireland, the MI5 and the real IRA. It is clear Laura is digging into secrets that many are loathe to see come out and this puts her and her team at risk. An explosive first case for her on her return to the police service following her husband’s murder.

Alongside the main case more of the story of her husband’s death are revealed and it appears there are also people that are not wanting this story to come out, so Laura goes in search of old contacts of her husbands and it feels like this story will continue in future books of the series. As if this wasn’t enough for Laura she also takes a leap into a new relationship with a colleague, but even this isn’t as smooth sailing as you’d expect.

There are so many layers to this book and it quickly hooks you into all elements and keeps you wanting to read on and on and on. I finished this book in a day as I needed to find out what happened and there were some excellent twists at the end of the book. I certainly recommend this book to everyone that likes good pacy crime / detective books, with good characterisations and the revelation of back stories. Personally I cannot wait for the third book to be published!

Thanks to the author, publisher and Net Galley for providing me with a review copy of this book for an open, fair and honest review.
