The Challenge is yet another great Danielle Steel book. It is is full of family, friends, and new beginnings.
Tom decides he no longer wants to live his hectic life in New York and wants to move to Fishtail Montana. In doing so he ends end getting a divorce and having to leave his daughter. His daughter Juliet comes to visit and makes friends with some local boys, which in turn Tom becomes friends with. Things become interesting when the teens get trapped on a mountain and the parents stuck wondering if they will be safe.
All of the families in the story go through major changes. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an arc for my honest opinion.

‘The Challenge, is another Danielle Steel hit. I don’t know how she does it, but I absolutely love reading her books. Based in Fishtail, Montana a story about small town friendships and romances - old and young.

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Random House Publishing Group- Ballantine and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

I would’ve liked more on the other parents, a bit too much on the kids and the MC. More on every one to better understand everything.

The Challenge was an interesting read. The story seemed to build to a climax with an exciting rescue of 7 children. After that things evolved as would be expected with blossoming love and devastating loss.

another great novel by Danielle Steel. Seven children lost on a mountain and their parents trying to find them. Had a great start but had a lack luster ending for me. Overall a good story and would recommend it. Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy.

This book had a slow start for me. About a quarter through it got more interesting but it’s not my favorite Danielle Steel book. It’s a tale of perseverance and pain, with some happy moments mixed in.

Peter Pollock & Matt Brown are best friends and so are their parents. Noel & Tim complete the foursome who are inseparable. Juliet Marshall is new to town, visiting her father who recently moved to Fishtail, Montana. The boys soon meet Juliet and the group becomes fast friends. They spend time hiking and fishing and hanging out with their siblings over the summer.
When a trip to swim at a local waterfall takes a dangerous turn, the group finds themselves lost and struggling to survive. The experience changes several lives over the next few months.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Challenge by Danielle Steel. The storyline was good. Seven children lost on a mountain. The story had a good ending not exactly one I expected but sometimes you do things that are best for your children.

I think I've read every Danielle Steel book over the years and continue to re-read year after year. This one just might go on my re-read list. Appropriately named The Challenge as everything in the story is a challenge in one way or another. 7 children (6 teens and a 6-year old) are lost in the wilderness for 3 days before they are rescued. After the rescue lives seem to go back to normal, but for many in the group (parents and children) their lives change and they all have challenges to go through. I wish it had ended differently, maybe a little more depth to some of their stories, but it was still a great story.

I have read every book that Danielle Steel has written. The Challenge had a good story but after the rescue, I felt like the story became trite and very predictable.
I did enjoy most of the characters in the story. As in typical Danielle Steel fashion the storyline had love, tragedy and lots of drama but it just didn’t resonate with me. Sorry Danielle Steel fans, I cannot recommend this one.
Thanks NetGallery for the ARC.

Great book! I would definitely recommend this. It had romance in it, suspense, and sadness. It’s about several families and their children. What happens to the children and family. It’s so good. I definitely enjoyed it and I know you will too.

The Challenge by Danielle Steel is an exciting novel that revolves around adolescence and how friendships are formed. Juliet moves with her father to Fishtail, Montana, after a divorce among the parents. She finds friendship with Peter and Matt, who welcome her to the group of five friends. When their adventure turns dangerous, the town join together to look for them, and life changes for Juliet. Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this novel prior to its publication date.

I haven't read a Danielle Steel book in years and years. After reading this one, I can see why.

The Challenge needs a serious edit job, I can't believe how many sentences/ideas were repeated.

My biggest peeve is that she kept calling kids "freaks" and "normal' What? This is the 21st century. Ms. Steel can and should do better. I found it ugly and hurtful.

Also, the part where the older son was "smoking dope" Really? It was weed not crack or meth. Weed. Ridiculous.

This is as much about what happens after as it is about the struggle of 7 teens to get home after a flood takes out their route down a mountain. They thought they were going on a picnic and to have fun but it all turned bad, and especially dangerous given that one of them has an insulin pump. Their parents have their own issues, with unhappy marriages and so on. There are a lot of characters to keep track of (unusual for a Steele novel). Know that the drama of the teens is actually more interesting (at least to me) than the resolution of their parents problems. And, as sometimes happens with this prolific author, the novel would have benefited from a strong edit to eliminate some repetition of words among other things. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Steele fans - and you know who you are- should give it a try.

Thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for the opportunity to read the newest story by Ms. Steel. As expected, this was a good, quick read. Ms.Steel is a great storyteller and it’s easy to get lost in the story.

A Wonderful portrayal of the fear and struggles faced by 7 children trapped on a mountain and of the complications and truths that arise in their lives as a result. Ms. Steel's take on real life issues never disappoints. Thank you Danielle Steel, Random House Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.

Another great story by Danielle Steel. I really enjoyed this story and how it went beyond the challenge of surviving the mountain. The characters were relatable and it was easy to feel their sorrow, happiness, and fear.

The setting is Fishtail, Montana, a small, closely knit community of 478 residents. After providing backstories for all the key characters, the focus shifts to 7 kids who set off on horseback to picnic at a favorite place on Granite Peak in the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains. What begins as a quiet afternoon turns into a challenge for survival as the group becomes stranded after a flash flood. Following three horrific days with little food and water, the group is reunited with their families with great relief that no one was seriously injured or lost.

The second half of the book explores the ongoing impact of the event. In typical Danielle Steel fashion, there is plenty of drama as relationships form and dissolve, families deal with love, loss, betrayal and forgiveness, and the whole makeup of the town shifts.

One thing I enjoy about this author’s books is the opportunity to escape into a quick, entertaining read. I found the characters believable as they wrestled not only with the stress of the missing children, but also the challenges that exist for all of us in daily life.

My thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

In many ways, 3 stars for this book is a gift. I want to be clear that the only reason I give it that many stars is that I loved the characters. Every single one of them. It's the only redeeming quality of this book. The rest of it was crap. The storyline was all over the place and entirely unorganized. It felt like this book evolved from two separate book ideas and as a last minute fix, they got mashed into a single story. It had all the requisite drama, love, more drama, tragedy, etc., of a Danielle Steel book, but it was just so poorly organized and put together it really didn't live up to what I typically expect from her. I would have liked to see this storyline play out in a different order, with more character history and development laid out so that by the end of the book, the wrap up of things made more sense and felt more finished.
