I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

This book was an interesting one. I found that the dialogue was very immature, so the first 35% of the book was hard to get through. None of the characters, except for Spence and Isaac, were likable and I thought there were so very inappropriate jokes about eating disorders (so check trigger warnings before reading).
Once Eliza, the main character, woke up during surgery and was stuck in an "in-between," the story got much more interesting. I wouldn't say this is a thriller, but it is more of a reflective YA book. While Eliza is in her in-between state, she is reflecting on her past choices and how she treated people.
The book got pretty repetitive and dragged on at some parts. I did like the relationship between Eliza and Spence, but there was no depth to it. I would've liked to see more than just a short epilogue taking place after Eliza survived.
This book very much reminded me of If I Stay, just not as fleshed out. It was a quick read, but just wasn't my cup of tea. Thank you to NetGalley and Evernight Teen for a copy in exchange for my honest review!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this title.

This book was not for me at all. One, the story felt extremely dated and out of step with today's world. Less than 25% in, the R slur was used by a character, which nearly made me put the book down and walk away. It's 2022, we know better than to use that word. That alone knocked my review down by a point because there's no good excuse to use that word.

Two:: I know this is a YA book, but the MC was insufferable. She was the classic mean girl, nasty to absolutely everyone. She was mean to her family, she was mean to her friends. She was entitled and bratty and just plain nasty for the ENTIRE book. I get that teens can sometimes be a handful but it was hard to like any of the characters in this book.

Three: I felt like the timing of some of her flashbacks was wonky. the ages didn't add up and that was something that should be caught in editing. For instance, if Eliza is 18 during this book when the accident takes place, then ten years earlier, she'd be eight and not five or six like the story says. Maybe the author originally had the characters younger, which would make sense considering how immature they seem. Elize reads more as a 16-year-old and not an 18-year-old. to me.

Overall, the plot was predictable and tired, the characters were not great, and there was no real resolution. The most interesting part of the novel was the few paragraphs when shes in surgery, but that was not enough to sustain the book.

This book has an incredibly sinister atmosphere that makes way for pretty riveting story. I was immediately drawn into the plot and captivated by the main character.
