This is a domestic drama involving three main characters. It is about friendships, relationships, secrets and lies. The characters are well developed. There are some twists and turns which were a little predictable. It has a satisfactory ending.

Great holiday read! 5⭐️

This compelling story of three strong female lead characters had me hooked from the beginning. All were relatable, well drawn with wit and really pulled at the heart strings.

I rate this 3.75. This is the first of Lisa Timoney’s book that I’ve read. I was excited to read it as it was full of suspense, drama and mystery. It twists this way and that. I like that it was pretty fast moving too for a domestic drama. However I found it quite difficult like Alice and Laura. I was lost with Bonnie as well. Gosh the conflicting emotions that surrounds this book though, think that’s what make me like it. I am glad the ending was written the way it did wrapping it up nicely.

I found out that this is the second book of hers, so will find a copy of her first to read as well.

Many thanks to Lisa Timoney, Avon Books UK for the advanced review copy via netgalley in exchange for honest feedback.

How can an author guarantee that his or her book is going to win me over? Lisa Timoney may just have found a way.

I think I may have begun to fall a little bit in love with 'Her Mother's Lies' from the very first page, when I saw that one of her main characters was called Bonnie. Which is the name of my very much-beloved black Labrador puppy. And when, after a few more chapters, it became apparent that the character of Bonnie was likeable, well, frankly, I'm not sure I cared how good the rest of the book was. I could probably have forgiven it almost anything.

The really good news though is that there is very little to forgive. 'Her Mother's Lies' is a wonderful family drama.

Initially, there is just enough mystery for the reader to be intrigued. Why has Bonnie taken a job at the storage units owned by Alice and her husband Richard, when it appears that she really doesn't need it? Why is she so interested in Alice's daughter, Laura? And how is it that Laura seems to have quickly formed a sort of bond with Bonnie, when Alice's own reaction is to dislike and indeed almost fear her?

The answer comes at about the mid-point, and it isn't a plot twist that makes you think 'wow'. But it is a moment that makes you think 'ohhhhh' as the reason for every character's behaviour becomes abundantly clear. But if you worry that the loss of the 'mystery' element results in a loss of intrigue, have no fear. Because by that point, the reader has learnt enough about each main character to be supporting every one of them.

Bonnie is very much flawed, but she remains likeable. Alice and Laura are harder to like, but it's easy to sympathise with Laura and impossible not to admire Alice. And I've been critical in the past about books that feature strong female characters at the expense of weak male ones. To a certain extent, 'Her Mother's Lies' does that too. But having Richard weakened by illness as opposed to morally weak or incompetent is something that I'm happy to accept.

As the book continued towards the end, I found myself frantically turning the pages for just one simple reason: I wanted a happy ending. And whilst I won't include any spoilers to indicate whether this is what I got, I will say that the book as a whole is just lovely. The story and all of the people within it are perfectly relatable and perfectly believable, which is absolutely what a good family drama needs to be.

Even without the added draw of a character named after my dog, I loved it. So if, as seems likely, your pet is called something else, I really hope you love it too.

My thanks to the author, Netgalley and Avon Books UK for the digital ARC of this book, which was published on 19th January and which I have reviewed voluntarily and honestly. I will post my review on Goodreads, Amazon and Instagram.

You can run from a lie, but you can’t hide the truth…
Bonnie has been running from her tragic past for far too long. Now, years after the events that changed her life for ever, the time has come to face it. Her search for answers takes her to the idyllic town of Hamblin, where she is determined to start over.
Alice’s perfect life is slipping through her fingers. Drowning in debt, she struggles on, working long days alongside her daughter Laura, ever more desperate to hold on to what little remains.
Laura had her future as an artist snatched from her when she had to return home to care for her sickly father. Whilst she tries hard to be content with her life, each day her resentment grows.
When their worlds collide, Laura and Bonnie form an instant bond. But as they grow closer, Alice begins to grow suspicious of Bonnie’s intentions. Why is she so interested in Alice’s daughter? And what devastating truth is she hiding…?

This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

Oh lord love a duck! This was an absolute delight of laughing, crying, heart-warming and yet heart-wrenching too. It was such a deep and true story of pasts colliding, the present, uncertainty of a future and how these three women characters are who you can relate to constantly with each of their points of view. You'll be yanked in from the beginning and roped around and around as you continue to read about these women, their intentions, secrets and ultimately drama that is something we can all relate to on some degree. The lies and deception are deep and dangerous with heightened suspicion that will keep you gasping for more like a puffer fish out of water. This was so insatiable to chew on and left me feeling satisfied with all the notes it hit!

Her Mother’s Lies is Lisa Timoney’s latest domestic thriller. It’s written in third person point-of view, alternating between the three female characters. The story jumps around in time. It’s a slow-moving character-driven novel with plenty of foreshadowing.

Middle-aged Bonnie Lombard relocates from Glasgow, Scotland to small-town Hamblin, England to make a fresh start. She sold her successful interior-design business and is looking for a part-time job so she can interact with people and pursue her love of painting. She is determined to overcome her tragic past.

Alice Egerton is miserable and overwhelmed as she struggles to hold her family’s dwindling financial strings together. Her husband of 30 years, Richard, made a very poor business deal 3 tears earlier, immediately before having a near-fatal heart attack. Now he is an invalid that cannot be stressed. Alice cares for him and runs their mini-storage business, Bock’s.

Laura Egerton is Richard and Alice’s 24-year-old daughter. After her father nearly died, she moved home to help care for him and also work at the mini storage. She has a business degree but longs to continue her education in Fine Art. She resents her circumstances and wants to move out on her own.

When Bonnie gets a job at the storage facility, she forms an instant bond with Laura over art and fashion. Alice is suspicious of Bonnie from the get-go and is jealous of her friendship with Laura. The reader soon becomes aware of similarities between Bonnie and Laura, but the connection is slowly revealed.

I received an Advance Review Copy (ARC) from NetGalley and Avon Books UK for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Bonnie Lombard has just moved to a new town and is looking for a job. Having sold her interior decorating business, she doesn’t need to work but is intrigued by a ad for a part time receptionist at a storage facility.

Alice and Richard Egerton own the storage facility which has encountered financial problems. Richard has a heart condition so Alice runs their business and worries about the lack of money which she hides from Richard. They live in a beautiful home that has always been her pride and joy. Their daughter, Laura, age 24, moved back in with them after Richard became ill and has been helping to run the storage facility business but is desperate to get back out on her own and continue with her studies and her art.

Bonnie applies for the job and is hired. She befriends Laura and encourages her in her art as Bonnie is also a brilliant artist. But this closeness doesn’t set well with Alice and, thus, begins a bit of jealousy.

OK, Folks, I cannot give out any spoilers here, but suffice to say this book reveals lots of secrets with every page turned. It’s heartbreaking at times but healing comes. I admit that I shed a few tears at Bonnie’s letter. Yep, you have to read the book to get to that and it’s really worth it. I enjoyed this story very much and hope others will as well.

Her Mother's Lies is a wonderful domestic drama.

Bonnie is a stranger in town who has just moved into town. While unpacking she decides to go for a bite to eat. While walking she happens upon a storage business and she decides to inquire about a part time job, just to giver herself something to do.

Alice, the business owner, takes an immediate dislike to Bonnie, but Laura Alice's daughter takes to her instantly and decides she will work out just fine.

Bonnie and Alice are keeping respective secrets which are bound to cause a lot of drama. As the story unravels so do the secrets which will change everything going forward.

At first the story was a little rocky, I was struggling to stay with it until I just found myself so involved. Without spoiling the story, this is about relationships and learning more about the people we love. It is an emotional story that will keep you turning the pages. And darned if I didn't have a tear in my eye at the very end.
