Unfortunately this book was not for me. I really liked the premise and thought it sounded like a book I would really enjoy, however I just couldn’t get into the romance side of the story which was the part of the book I was looking forward to. I typically like books that have side characters and family drama, but I found these characters and the drama took over too much of the story and I couldn’t get the connection to main characters. Also since the drama between the families was often petty, and at times not believable ( I have a had time believing that one family wouldn’t lend an umbrella to cover a baby in the sun, no matter how much drama there is between them), these instances made me not be able to get into the storylines.

Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks for a copy of this book.

I received an e-galley of Right Girl, Wrong Side by Ginny Baird from Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Evita and Ryan have known each other since high school but their moms have always been in competition with one another, affecting their friendship and anything else that may have developed. As luck would have it, both moms believe that they won a stay at a beach house. When they arrive to find the rival family there as well, the moms are not pleased to say the least. After a quarrel, the two families agree that they can both stay at the beach house, as long as they draw clear lines. Except that Evita and Ryan - and members of both respective families - are not quite sure about these lines drawn. As the two families quarrel, bond, and find ways to both enjoy their vacations, Evita and Ryan also have the chance to explore feelings that they both had from way back in high school.

I love a good Romeo and Juliet sort of story. Feuding families. Lovers of rival families. And while I did enjoy parts of the interactions between the families, the love story of Evita and Ryan missed its mark for me.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I am a huge Ginny Baird fan and so I went in with high expectations. The book tells the story of Evita who goes on a trip with her family to break over the breakup and so when she gets there she stumbles on Ryan. Ryan was Evita's former crush but like an ode to Romeo and Juliet their families worked overtime to keep them apart. I enjoyed watching Evita and Ryan fall for each other. It's perfect for fans of second chance romances, family drama, siblings and self-discovery.

A super sweet romance about two people falling for one another alongside the drama of their rival families!

The Hatfields and The Machados have a rivalry that spans back to when their respective matriarchs went head to head for a class president spot over thirty years ago. When a bookkeeping error lands them both at the same beach house during the same week, everyone decides to stay amidst the mayhem and split the house down the middle. However, as most of the occupants consider this to be an outrage, Evita Machado and Ryan Hatfield can’t help but to see a second chance for a relationship that could never be amidst their warring families.

This was a sweet, clean romance with the perfect amount of tender moments alongside the laugh out loud situations that these rivals found themselves in. I really enjoyed the “rival families” trope and having it together with the second chance romance was the perfect pairing. The author included some truly fun banter and the concept was unique while also sharing a very solid life lesson. It was so easy to root for Evita and Ryan as their famiiles duked it out and I thought the ending and epilogue were the perfect wrap up. This was a sweet, clean romance that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Right Girl, Wrong Side by Ginny Baird is the modern day Romeo and Juliette with a Hispanic twist.

A long standing feud between two women causes a myriad of problems for their families, starting with their children. Evita & Ryan both met in high school but were never allowed to act on their attraction because of their warring mothers.

Fast forward a couple years and both moms have won a vacation at a holiday home, both thinking that they were the one who won until both families arrive and see that there had been a mistake. After a fight ensues, both families manage to come to a compromise of sharing and dividing the house on Nantucket (as neither family wants to admit defeat and leave).

Lots of fights ensue, a colicky baby, fights over music and an umbrella, family time and amongst this all Ryan and Evita. The reunion between these two renews the feelings that they once had for each other and despite their mother’s adamant efforts to keep them away from each other.. it of course, doesn’t work.

Honestly it took me a while to get into this book as I couldn’t get past the moms acting like literal children with all the fighting. A little more than halfway through though, the characters started to grow on me. It was an overall entertaining read with a sweet romance. Thank you so much to the publisher and author for sending me an e-galley of this book!

I have been a fan of Ginny Baird for quite some time, and was excited to have the opportunity to read her newest release, Right Girl, Wrong Side. I was in no way disappointed. I loved getting to know the main characters, Ryan and Evita. The comedic timing between the two was perfect. Their story was exactly what I would expect from this author! I was entertained from start to finish. I loved it!

I am giving Right Girl, Wrong Side a very well deserved five plus stars and highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean, romantic fiction with a side of humor. As always, I will be looking for more books by Ginny Baird in the future.

I received a digital copy of Right Girl, Wrong Side from the author, but was not required to write a review, nor a positive one. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Hold onto your beach hat, you're in for a wild ride!

When a misunderstanding in a beach get away auction bringst together two very different family dynamics, all the drama happens. Ryan's family is very reserved while Evita's family is very boisterous. There is unresolved history between their mothers that adds to the tension.

As Ryan and Evita try to make peace, they end up falling in love. Will that bring together the families or make things worse?

I was sold by the premise of this one: "a multicultural story about two disputing families sharing a beach house and the messiness that comes from falling in love with someone who your family is determined to despise."

And it sure is messy! The moms in the Machado and the Hatfield families have actively disliked each other since high school. Their kids, Evita and Ryan, sort of had a thing for each other when they were in school, but they never dated because of their moms. Now Evita and Ryan are in their late 20s, and sparks fly once more, as both families share a vacation home.

I thought Evita was a great main character, and I liked scenes with her big, boisterous family. There are a couple of moments when various members of Evita's family sort of nudge her toward Ryan which were so fun -- I'd have liked more intervention there, in part to make the feud between the moms feel like less of a focal point. Evita and Ryan read as young for their ages (I think in service of the plot). Overall, I liked this one, but found it a bit repetitive at times -- give me more beach house scenes and less discussion of the feud/various characters' life choices.

This is a super cute, sweet, fun romance. Evita Machado and her family cannot wait for their family vacation in Nantucket. They won a dream house for a week in an auction and are looking forward to the getaway until they show up to find out that Ryan Hatfield and his family were already there. A mix-up at the auction means that the house was awarded to both families on accident which would be fine except their parents cannot stand one another. Ryan and Evita were friendly in high school but never took it further as they knew that their parents would not approve. Now, years later, they have a second chance to spend some time with one another but the feud between families is as strong as ever.

This book had the perfect getaway vibes. I loved the family aspects with home-cooked meals, fun on the beach and game nights. I enjoyed both the Hatfields and the Machados and all the relationships the various couples had with one another. Evita and Ryan had a cute second chance romance in here with lots of discussions about going for what they want, both in relationships and their careers. You can see the challenge of managing your own goals and wishes while still wanting to be accepted and understood by your parents. If you are looking for a sweet, closed door romance that will have you smiling the whole time, this is for you. 3.5 stars rounded up.

Actual Rating: 3.5⭐

Read this rom-com if you like;
• Second Chance Romance
• Friends to Lovers
• Childhood Crushes
• Rival Families

This is a heart-warming rom-com. It’s fun, charming and enjoyable read.

First of all, the setting of the rental house with a beach in Nantucket is a great touch to the story, it brings out the vacation vibes for both families.

I really like the main characters – Evita and Ryan, they are very mature compare to their parents and more open minded. I like seeing how they open up to each other about their families and personal life. I just wish I could see more interaction, sweet moments between the two of them.

Aside from the main characters, the side characters are also well developed. I love Evita’s family – they are so close with one another and show their love expressively. It’s very different compare to Ryan’s family that’s a bit strict.

While I enjoy getting to know the characters, I couldn’t seem to connect with the Evita’s and Ryan’s mothers – the source of their family dispute as well as the main focus of the book. At times, I found their verbal war can be quite childish and a tad infuriating.

Overall, it’s a pretty good and enjoyable read. The ending is quite satisfying and I like the small epilogue at the end.
I really like the character developments throughout the story, the only thing I wish to see more is the blooming second chance romance of Evita and Ryan instead of seeing their mother’s fight.

I received an advanced review copy for free through Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Huge thank you to the author and publisher!

Oh, how I wanted to 100% love Right Girl, Wrong Side. A lot of the story was a hit, but a couple of things didn't hit right for me.

Here's what did work:
I adored the premise- two long time warring families are thrown together on a vacation due to a silent auction mix up. GOLD!!
I adored the Machado family and their dynamics. Each piece of the Machado family worked so well.. the loving parents, sibling relationships, Evita's nieces, nephews, and both sisters in law. I loved their interactions, the realness, the food they gathered around and their general family camaraderie.
I liked Ryan's budding relationship with his much younger sister and his work to stand up for himself to his parents.
I really liked the relationship between the two love interests. I enjoyed their backstory and how their relationship grew on the pages of this story.

Time for a bit of a soap box from me in what didn't work:
My main issue with Right Girl, Wrong Side was the discussion of Evita deserving a love that "worships" her. Loving someone is different than worshipping someone. To me, a romantic relationship is not the appropriate place to put your worship. I think worshipping a person leads to putting them on an unattainable pedestal and a road to relationship strife when unrealistic expectations aren't met. Talking of Evita finding someone to worship her realllllllly rubbed me the wrong way.
The reason the mothers and now the families are at odds seemed flimsy. It's decades old, and maybe was important to them at that time, but it seemed silly for the younger generation to continue the feud based on those circumstances.

Right Girl, Wrong Side is a case of the negatives far outweighing the many reasons I loved this story. I will continue to look for books by this author in the future though because so much of the story was spot on.

Right Girl, Wrong Side is out now! Thank you Netgalley and Source Books Casablanca for my e-arc!

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The moms of Evita Machado and Ryan Hatfield have been in a serious rivalry ever they were in school, but that didn’t stop their kids from secretly being friends in high school. Years later, both families find themselves at the same vacation cottage… what could go wrong?

𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: This book is a cute take on a Romeo and Juliet love story, and I enjoyed seeing the hilarious family feuds and growth. I wished we saw more of Evita and Ryan’s past friendship and deep emotions. It almost felt like their stories were surface level to the readers. I would have loved to know more of their thoughts and emotions, but maybe, I’m too accustomed to multiple first person point-of-view romance books. Overall, this story was adorable and perfect for readers searching for a book without any serious trigger warnings.

Ginny Baird absolutely have be so many warm squishy feels with this book! I think fate sad bound and determined to get Evita and Ryan together, and it all went so swoon-worthy. The constant struggle between the Hatfield's and Machado's has me laughing out loud with tears in my eyes.

What a fun, charming, and bubbly romcom! I really liked this one from the start and could tell from the first few chapters that it was going to be good. Evita and Ryan’s chemistry was so sweet, and I loved how they could pick up basically where they left off as friends in high school. Honestly, I’d say the family component of the story was just as enticing as the romance parts. Evita’s big Puerto Rican family is close knit, silly, and knows how to have a good time. The dynamic and banter between everyone was fun and easy to read. Ryan’s bond with his sister was another standout for me in this story, and I loved seeing the evolution of their relationship. The only thing I didn’t like was that some of the drama between the families seemed too over the top or unrealistic at times, but that was fine for me to overlook as the joy the rest of the book brought me far outweighed any of that. The Nantucket beach house setting was perfect, and I could see this book being an excellent beach read! Do not sleep on this book!

This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was fun, sweet, and a great summer/beach read. It held my interest and I wanted to find out what was going to happen. I enjoyed this book and will look for more books by this author.

Evita Machado and Ryan Hatfield are dealing with an updated version of The Hatfield's and The McCoy's. Both Evita and Ryan were lab partners in high school. They were friends even though the families wanted nothing to do with each other. Lissette and Daneen are competing commercial real estate brokers. So imagine that they both won a week away to Nantucket getaway. Now you have Ryan and Evita playing referee. Old feelings are there. With age comes wisdom and the courage to fight for what they want. Beautiful beaches, good food, music and dancing. When it is revealed what started the feud, it's the kids who are angry at their grandparents. Old habits are hard to break but with love in the air, nothing is impossible.

This updated, modern day, Hatfield and McCoy, long standing feud between two family Moms fuels the plot for this fun book. Two very opposite families end up ”winning” a vacation rental after an auction mix up have life long grudges between the two Moms. Their children try to understand and mediate a truce, all the while enjoying the time they have at the beach. This is a fun quick read.

A modern take on the star-crossed lovers story, Right Girl, Wrong Side is more of a family story than the story of two lovers. Playing off the Hatfield and McCoy rivalry, our two rival families are defined by the hatred between their mothers. High school rivals and current work rivals, Lisette Machado and Daneen Hatfield do not allow their families to mix. When their teenage children are paired together as lab partners in High School the families discourage any fraternization, despite the teen's obvious chemistry.

Flash forward a decade, and the teenagers are now adults who haven't seen each other in years. That is, until a charity auction mix-up results in both families sharing a vacation house for a week. The Machados are large, noisy, and fun. The Hatfields are conservative, quiet, and dealing with pent up family drama. Sparks fly between the two families, while sparks also fly (in a different way) between Evita Machado and Ryan Hatfield.

This book is marketed as a romance, and while there is a romance, I'd argue it's not the primary storyline. This book is really about two families learning to get along. The romance is really plotline B. Which would have been fine, except that the pacing of the story was off. The progression of the ultimate reconciliation between the two families seemed to stall in the middle of the book. And then the resolution happened off screen. The only saving grace for this book was the extended family members. I loved the siblings and their dramas, as well as the relationship between various individual members of the family.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

What a fun take on the Hatfields vs. McCoys but with a multicultural twist!

Evita Machado and Ryan Hatfield's families have been on opposite ends of a deep rivalry. Despite the attraction between these two since they were younger, they were not allowed to pursue it because of the family feud.

A mix-up in booking their respective family vacations ended up in a double-booked house with both families. Can both families co-exist in a cozy space, and can this finally be the opportunity for Evite and Ryan to act on their feelings?

This was a nice spring romance about new beginnings. Evita comes home to her family in Nantucket after a bad breakup. The two families come to an agreement to share a home. Evita and Ryan try to reconnect.

Ginny Baird does a great job of balancing the chaos with the bickering families with the connection between our main characters. I appreciated the subplot of the feud's origin and finally finding a resolution for it.

While Evita and Ryan's chemistry was so wholesome, I did wish we got a little more spice, but if first-base books are your jam, this standalone read is a good pick.

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Ginny Baird, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and NetGalley for providing an ARC. **

I loved the premise, and the main characters were very sweet and easy to like. I would have liked a little more depth, but if you’re looking for a quick, breezy beach read, this is perfect.

A lot of the supporting characters were a ton of fun, but both the mothers and their feud were so hard to deal with. They were petty and often unlikable because they were so, so mean to each other. Their comments were just nasty about each other’s families, and it really pulls you out of an otherwise sweet romance.
