Break Heart Canyon is written by Gini Rifkin, a new to me author. Even though I read the description beforehand I didn’t realize that this was a historical novel. This only served to make the story even more intriguing as the setting for the search for dinosaur bones took place in 1870’s. History that I had never given much thought to was part of this story. The setting of the Colorado area, a lone female ranch owner, yes, I know she had MacTavish, and the Indiana Jones type of reluctant hero was quite the read.

Soon the focus changes to other nefarious acts being commit against Una MacLaren and her farm. Ryker Landry has come to find an ancient artifact but is drawn into the Una’s life. These two make a delightful pairing so very different, yet finding a balance together. What a wonderful twisty story.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Una vows to protect the ancient relics on her land, but one treasure hunter steals her heart when she wasn’t looking. Una loves her land and no one trespasses, not even a handsome rake looking for treasure. Dinosaur fever has hit Colorado and she must guard her land against thieves and the sort. When she meets Ryker, she shoos him off her land with her rifle and trusted deerhound. But times are difficult and it’s getting harder to keep her goat farm, so she teams up with Ryker. She’s not sure if he loves the artifacts more than herself, but she can’t risk him abandoning her. The legend of the white cougar has everyone talking. Danger circles Una and Ryker like a feral beast. Can they outsmart their enemies, or will they both perish?

Break Heart Canyon is a historical western romance I couldn’t put down. From the first page until the last, the story captured my imagination. I know next to nothing about the mad dash to find dinosaur bones prior to reading this book. After reading this book, I know all I need to know. Gini Rifkin weaves historical romance chockful of historical facts. It all starts with the descriptive narration. Using detailed narration, Gini Rifkin creates a world any reader can sink their teeth into. Each scene is beautifully described with historical accuracy, vibrant setting, engaging dialogue, and characters that come to life. The combative nature between the hero and heroine adds an extra layer of emotion to the story. The romance is unexpected yet realistic to the era. If you’re like me and like a spunky heroine, you’re going to love Break Heart Canyon. Gini Rifkin has penned another outstanding historical romance. Highly recommend!

Original, independent, beautiful Una McAllister move from Scotland to Colorado and only brought her grandma cell an amulet and her Christian and pagan beliefs. After what she knew was the murder of her husband Hamish her days were filled with getting on with the getting on as her her happiness went with him but soon the bone wars and the eclipse would Bring danger known and unknown to Una. Thankfully she has her good friend whiskey gym and a missionary name Riker who was played to look for ancient artifacts in Brake Heart Canyon. The place Una called home but the more he sees of oh no the more the reason he is there changes and when he sees the danger that keeps popping up around her his need to protect her intensifies. The clips will change everything for Oona and Riker but will it be something they both want or will One of them be left Wanting?
