“In hearing Marley’s plan, I’d been skeptical. But she was more than a meteorology nerd. She was a storm chaser. And she didn’t just chase storms. She caught them.”

Storm Chaser is book one in a projected three book series by Linsdey Duga. This action packed, science fiction story based around Marley’s melding with an alien crystal, that is the source of Brae’s atmospheric powers, is a gripping story from beginning to end. Marley is not your average teen girl, having been raised by her older brother after their parents died when a Tornado destroyed their Kansas home. Her brother’s studies as a grad student tracking tornadoes has fostered Marley’s passion for meteorology as well and allowed her to grow up surrounded by the science of storms and the people pursuing an understanding of these perplexing yet deadly occurrences. This put her on a course with a destiny she never could have imagined.

Storm Chaser is a great fictional read for all ages. It’s a story that combines fantastical beings, in this case aliens, with the nuts and bolts of storm chasing; think Twilight mixed with the 1996 movie Twister starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton. I love books that expand my knowledge or understanding of different subjects woven within riveting storytelling. Lydnsey has found the perfect balance between fact and fiction, blurring the lines between what is real and what she has created; the idea that different alien clans have the ability to control different aspects of violent weather.

Overall, Storm Chaser is a great fictional work. I just couldn’t give it more than 3.5 stars because of a plot progression we see quite often in books across genres but seemingly more so in teen and YA stories; the heroine makes decisions to go to or confront the antagonist by herself in an effort to save someone she loves, instead of conspiring with the other supernatural beings, particularly her love interest Brae, who have become part of her circle. Maybe because it is so widely used or maybe because it always plays out exactly the same that anymore I find I’m turned off by it. In the case of Marley, I get that Lindsey is trying to develop her into a strong, independent, and confident young women. However, in my mind it just makes her seem immature when she chooses to intentionally put herself in a risky situation with no guarantee that the “bad guy” will honor his word and trade her for her loved one. But, of course it all works out in the end which includes a little cliffhanger to close out the book.

This is not the first Lindsey Duga book I have read and I find that I really enjoy her style of writing and creativity with each story. That being said, I will be looking forward to the next couple of books in this new world! Grab Storm Chaser which is currently available on Kindle Unlimited

Storm Chaser was an ok fast read. It was high on the angst and drama and low on romance but it definitely could be called a forbidden romance. I also liked that this was a new spin on the alien story, where they are clans and each clan can control a different kind of weather. This is the first in a series so some issues are left unanswered and if you are looking for an epic romantic moment here you will be sadly mistaken. I will definitely keep my eye out for the next book in the series because I would like to see what will come of the brewing war.

The main reason for the 3 star was Marley. Felt she was too immature and her actions seemed of that of someone younger. Story had potential and I was really hopeful with the blurb since I love storms.

Lindsey Duga is truly one of my favourite authors. She’s one of the most unique storytellers on the market and every single one of her books has left me completely gobsmacked and obsessed.

Stormchaser has such an interesting and cool story. It’s hard to say much without giving it away, but let’s just say you couldn’t predict what was going to be a major plot point from just taking a peak at the synopsis. It’s FAR more exciting to find out for yourselves, so I won’t ruin the fun for you.

If you’re a fan of storms of any kind and CW levels of teen angst, you all absolutely need to add this one to your TBRs.

I NEED BOOK 2 NOOOOOOWWWWWW.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I loved this book I could not put it down. A storm chaser was such a new topic for me and I am all for it. I really don’t want to give anything away, but it has otherworldly beings, a great plot and so much more. Read this book.

Storm Chaser is the first in a new series by Duga. We meet Marley Pascal on one of her first storm chases with her brother and his team. For Marley chasing storms is a way to try and help fill the loss of her parents who were killed by a tornado. From the synopsis: But the storm she and her brother track down seems to violate the very laws of nature, with lightning that strikes as if from another world. In its crater, Marley finds a small purple crystal with a terrifying energy that hits her like a bolt to the chest when she picks it up." Well now Brae, the owner of that crystal is looking for her and when he finds her her world turns upside down as she is introduced to a world she never would have believed existed with aliens living among humans.

I really enjoyed that this book was different with aliens that can control atmospheric phenomena. I unfortunately didn't really care for Marley as a character with this is a YA story her thoughts and actions felt more like middle school characteristics than that of an upper classman in high school. I will definitely read the next book as I really enjoyed Brae and the side characters and need to know where this leads 3.5 stars

I don't read a lot of YA these days, but this cover totally called to me. It's gorgeous and the blurb was really interesting.

The first few pages were very much like a popular storm chaser movie but it doesn't take long for things to get moving in a fresh direction. Marley aka Marlena tags along storm chasing with her brother an ends up picking up some serious mojo from the aftermath of a super tornado in the form of energy from another planet.

Energy that causes storms.

Brae, the owner of the special power is drawn to Marley in more ways than one. One she has his power and then she's a bit of a firecracker. He's trying to do all the right things, although he ends up making mistakes that cost them. I really did like the world that is built here with this story and I see lots of opportunities for future stories, especially between Marley and Brae and their budding romantic feelings (G-rated) for each other.

I ended up enjoying this story quite a bit. The story was entertaining, moved along quite nicely, the characters are interesting, the world is well-constructed while still leaving some room for new craziness. Storm Chaser ends in a tiny cliffhanger that reveals Brae true nature to more people, which is guaranteed to cause all sorts of trouble.

Overall, I'm really glad I picked up this YA alien story and it was definitely worth reading. Definite kudos for an awesome cover!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my copy of Storm Chaser. I loved Roaring by Lindsey Duga so I was really excited to read another book by the author. And Duga did not disappoint!

Lindsey Duga is the queen of fresh fantasy. These days, most tropes are overdone and it's difficult to write something that feels fresh, but Duga succeeds.

When I read the blurb for this one I had no idea what I was in for, and it's fantastic, I won't give anything away but the "kind" that's mentioned in the blurb is so not what I thought it was going to be.

As someone that loves every movie SYFY puts out.... well almost every movie, this book was right up my alley, with storm chasers, otherworldly beings, and relationships that have more electricity than bolts of lightning this book has something for everyone.

Without giving too much away I'll say this, go into this book with an open mind and you might learn something from our characters.

I have to say I'm glad I requested this one, it's a little outside of my normal comfort zone but I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more by Lindsey Duga, she gives amazing voices to the characters she writes, and I was invested to the last page and hope to see more of Marley and her interesting circle of friends and family.

Overall though my opinion is that this is a book about acceptance, seeing people for who they truly are inside, and not making rash decisions when someone is a little, ok a lot different than you are (remember there are consequences when you do), that being said our characters did not have a smooth time of it, but they learned from each other and the worlds around them.

Let me take one moment to talk about the storms, I felt like I could hear the storms, smell the rain, and feel the air change while reading this book, with the descriptive storytelling it's an immersive experience and a fantastic example of how to write a weather scene.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for providing an advance copy of this book, I have voluntarily read and reviewed it and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Storm Chaser is a new young adult sci-fi novel by Lindsey Duga. Marley is a storm chaser, chasing after destructive forms of weather ever since the death of parents. When chasing an unusual storm she finds a crystal leftover in the aftermath. Suddenly charged with energy not of this world, Marley soon encounters a boy with lightning in his eyes. Marley now contains an otherworldly power within, that wasn't meant for her or for any human to hold. She's a target, a weapon. She's the storm.

This novel is electrifying. Quick and right to the point, you're placed in Marley's shoes as she and her brother's team track down a storm. And the action just continues from there. This book rarely has a dull moment which makes reading it a breeze.

The science fiction is realistic and the novel does an excellent job of explaining the world contained within. As a science major at heart, it was refreshing to read a novel that talked about electrons and charges, making sense of them.

The romance in this novel is swoon-worthy and sure to make your heart twisty everytime the main couple sparks.

I'd recommend this novel to anyone who wants to read a young adult science fiction novel that's fast-paced with a sense of realism.

Thank you to Netgalley and Entangled Teen for an eARC of this novel. All thoughts and opinions contained within this review are my own.

I’ve always been fascinated by storm chasers and their reasons, some very personal, for choosing that line of work. It’s off the chart dangerous, and I’m surprised I haven’t come across another book before this featuring that profession.

The author’s note at the end of the story explains how the weather in her area of the country (south Louisiana) influenced this story. Take the power of storms, throw in some aliens, storm chasers, superpowers, and a headstrong female protagonist, and you’ve got a gripping plot.

Marley aspires to become a meteorologist like her brother, Patrick. She’s ecstatic when she’s allowed to spend a day with him and his team tracking a storm. After a powerful lightning strike leaves a large crater, Marley picks up a purple crystal left behind – in hindsight, probably not her smartest decision. Bolts of energy course through her body – energy that belongs to someone else.

Brae, along with his clan and several others, are from another planet. Most of them try to live quietly among the humans after their planet is destroyed, but Cassen wants to rid the world of humans and make Earth their own. Brae is determined that won’t happen, and he’s the only obstacle between Cassen and his goal. His problem? The Superman-like power once housed in a oculus within Brae, the power he uses to fight off Cassen, now resides within Marley.

I loved the sibling relationship between Patrick and Marley. They only have each other after their parents were killed by a tornado several years earlier. Patrick is now her guardian and incredibly protective of her. As the leader of his clan, Brae’s utmost priority is keeping them safe. But when he develops feelings for Marley, those priorities become muddled. The gradual reveal of the details of his home planet, Enos, demonstrates even more of the precarious position Brae is in.

Told with a dual POV between Marley and Brae, Storm Chaser moves at a brisk pace and features thrilling action scenes. I have to mention I got a kick out of all the pop culture references – especially when Marley mentions that she and her brother text in Elvish. With that cliffhanger, I’m anxious for the next book!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

**I received a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary review.**

I have always had a curiosity of why storm chaser do what they do but this book gives you a look inside as both Marley's brother and friends research the storm and what causes it. However little does she know that the her parents were taken during a tornado could've been caused by group of aliens who control atmospheric conditions. Nor could she know that she has absorbs the lightening into her body when touched. Because of this she now is a target for one person who wants to control all the elements and make Earth his planet without us on it. However Brae wants the source back from Marley and knows that he must protect her from his enemy at all costs perhaps even his own life.

I would have given the book a higher rating had it not been a cliff hanger because I really hate the waiting for the next book to find out what happens. All in all its worthy of a four star rating.

I think this is a very interesting concept, but I feel like it could have been executed better. Same of the storyline seemed a little convoluted and the fight scenes felt repetitive. I feel like this story has a lot of potential for growth as it continues though.

Lindsey Duga does an absolutely fantastic job mixing fantasy with real world people and real world feelings. She creates mid fantasy so well!

If you didn’t know, mid fantasy is having one foot in the “real world” and one foot in the fantasy world. And high fantasy is like The Lord of the Rings where the only world referenced is their fantasy world.

The feeling of Marley and Brea were absolute stunners. The turmoil that they both went through and experienced almost simultaneously but in completely different sides of the same coin, both having lost something of supreme importance, was exquisite.

Y’all know I live for the angst.

I loved the whole book and I can’t wait for the next one. I didn’t love how it ended up being a cliffhanger, although knowing it’s the first in a new series, it kind of comes with the territory. It was done so well that I have little complaints other than it being a cliffhanger.

The world building was phenomenal. Not to mention the amount of research that I’m sure went into this. It was so detailed about the storms and the little insights I got into the alien world…I loved. The relationships were expanded upon throughout the book were so healthy and a wonderful foil against the two main characters and their relationships. What I mean by that is that Marley had her foils with Brea and Brea had his foils with Marley.

And the fact that almost all of the characters had some sort of growth not just the main characters… fabulous.

Duga is quickly becoming the queen of mid fantasy.

Lindsey Duga's Storm Chaser is a story about storms, aliens, romance, and magic. For the past 5 years, Marley Pascal, who resides in Kansas aka Tornado Alley, has spent a whole lot of time learning about the weather and how storms like tornadoes develop and cause so much damage. Storms that 5 years ago, took the lives of her parents while somehow managing to leave her, and her brother Travis, behind to pick up the pieces.

On her first day as a storm chaser, Marley, along with Travis, Gerry, and Patrick, discover a super cell like the one that killed her parents, heading towards Lawrence, Kansas. The storm will eventually leave behind a large crater where Marley finds what looks to be a purple crystal. When she picks it up, she gets an electrical charge, and passes out. What's even stranger is that the purple gemstone is missing and she has what looks like a lightning strike mark on her back. Soon she will learn that humans are not alone on Earth.

There is an alien presence that tends to cause violent storms that have destroyed towns, and other properties. Enter Brae an alien from the planet Enos which was destroyed thanks to four clans (Air, Lightning, Ice, and Rain) not being able to put differences aside for the sake of the planet. 5 years ago, Brae and his enil clan (lightning) arrived on Earth, but his clan has been fighting an ongoing battle with a rival clan lead by Cassen who seems to be getting stronger every time he and Brae encounter each other.

To make matters worse, Brae soon learns that Marley has his oculus that he lost in a fight against Cassen. Marley somehow managed to pick up Brae's oculus that holds his powers, and nobody understands why, or how that happened, or how to give the power back to Brae. While the oculus enhances Brae's powers, what will it end up doing to Marley if they can't figure out a way to give it back? And, to top it off, Cassen isn't stupid. This puts Marley directly in the line of fire, but it also places her brother and his storm chasing team in harms way as well.

Unfortunately, this book is not a standalone, and that means that it ends on a cliffhanger ending. The story alternates between Brae and Marley and that means you get more of a cast to be introduced with after you meet Brae's clan as well as others. Truth be told, I really hate when the synopsis posted doesn't tell you whether or not this is a standalone, or part of a series. Neither does the authors web page. Then you read the book to the ending and shocking, it's not a standalone! Ergo, that is why I have rated my review so low. Also, this book releases 10/31/2022, NOT 10/31/23.

I haven't read anything like this one before and I really enjoyed all the storm information.

Marley's parents died in a tornado and her brother now takes care of her. He's a meteorologist and his group chases storms. Not for fun, but for samples and research. Marley finally convinces them to let her come with. She's been obsessed with storms since her parents died. They found another really strange storm that popped up out of nowhere. Nothing seemed right, but they all survived. When looking for samples, Marley found a crystal and picked it up. She felt strange power and then passed out.

Brae is the one who lost that crystal. It contained the source of his stronger power and healing. Brae and his clan are aliens. They had to leave their planet and Earth was one place that they could fit in and survive. But they all have storm powers. Brae has to trace the power and finally finds Marley where she worked with Alessi, one of his clan. Brae finally needs to admit who he was and wanted to find a way to get that power back out of Marley before his enemy, Cassen, could take over. Cassen wants to get the power from all the clans and create a planet for them without humans. Brae has a strict policy of keeping humans safe after he accidentally killed two when he was thirteen.

In what you expect with Entangled Teen, Marley and Brae are attracted to each other, but they also argue and walk away. Neither wants to admit to their feelings. Marley is afraid of Brae having power that can cause major storms that kill people. She had to learn to trust him after he kept saving her.

I really enjoyed this one and I'm looking forward to the second book.

I gave this book 4 stars.

Thank you to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for my earc.
