This is a cute little book that reads more like a fairy tale. Teachers and parents will have to expand on all the countries Queen Elizabeth was a Queen to... New Zealand, Australia, Canada, England, Scotland... to start with the big ones... plus a map of what constitutes the Great Britain would have been helpful. It's a cute intro nonetheless.

Part of the beloved Little People, Big Dreams series, the story of our glorious Queen Elizabeth II is told through bright and colourful illustrations. This biography, while aimed at the 4-7 age group, will be well loved for all ages, teaching about such an important figure that has graced our lives for 70 years. Queen Elizabeth (which probably should have had II added - so not to confuse with the other strong Queen Elizabeth) would make a wonderful edition to anyone's collection big or small.

This is a timely addition to the publishers’ acclaimed ‘Little People, BIG DREAMS’ series of mini-biographies intended to introduce young readers, aged 4-7, to the lives of inspiring people.

Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara condenses the key events of Queen Elizabeth II’s long life, concluding with the recent Platinum Jubilee celebrating her 70 years on the throne.

Melissa Lee Johnson’s drawings were charming. Some panels depicted the Queen’s adorable corgis accompanying her and a few even broke the fourth wall by cheekily looking out of the page to catch the eye of the reader.

The book ends with a biographical timeline accompanied by photographs and a suggestion for further reading at an older level.

I am always happy to recommend new additions to this delightful series to parents, grandparents, educators, and librarians as a gentle way to introduce children to history and nonfiction.

Queen Elizabeth is an adorable and important addition to the Little People Big Dreams series and children will definitely enjoy reading this one. This biography teaches children about such an important figure over the past 70 years and what a strong, gracious lady the queen was. This would make a great addition to any school library for sure and is important for children of the UK especially to have the option to read. The illustrations are fantastic and I love the cover so much!

Another great profile in this series! These books continue to make large personalities accessible. My daughter loved hearing the story of Queen Elizabeth in an accessible manner, that really portrayed her as a child. Wonderful and timely story.

Love the little people big dreams series, as do my daughters, so I was quick to request this ARC. Beautiful illustrations (as with the rest of the series), and a sweet ode to the Queen’s life. I agree with another reviewer that it avoided some trickier topics that could have been lightly addressed (little people big dreams is good at doing this in a kid-friendly way!), but overall we enjoyed.

I'm always eager to read a new Little People, BIG DREAMS. This volume seems very timely, I can imagine a lot of kids asking questions about the Queen and her passing. I felt like this one missed the mark a little bit. The Queen had or was closely associated very far reaching impacts both negative and positive to the world history and I think the book was a bit reluctant to steer the conversation either way. They must have had this book waiting in the wings as the release feels incredibly quick after the death of her majesty.

The illustrations, as always, are beautiful and the 'story' sums up dear Queen Elizabeth so well - so hopeful.

Think this is a perfect way to celebrate the Queen, and to introduce her to the younger generations to come!

My son has really enjoyed reading this book about Queen Elizabeth especially after her death.He has found it very interesting and has enjoyed learning about her life.
He though she was alwasy going to be Queen Elizabeth so was suprised to find out how she became Queen. By showing from a young age to her becoming of a princess and her father's death and then becoming Queen.

Another beautiful biography by the Little People, Big Dreams team. The illustrations are gorgeous and the story of Queen Elizabeth is an appropriate introduction to to Monarchy. This can help open the door to larger discussions at home.

As always the drawings in this series are so cute and beautiful and the explanations are interesting while being age appropriate. My only minus on this specific book is that I have my own ideas and biases about monarchy and I know that it's very complex to address it in a children's book while also taking into account the point of the book.
Nevertheless, it's a world personality of the 20th and 21st Centuries you can't skip due to her relevance and I still very much appreciate the book as a whole.

With the passing of the queen earlier this month, it was the perfect time to learn a bit more about her. As always, the Little People Big Dreams series makes it easy and informative to learn about such an important person in history. The illustrations are great and the information given is just enough to get an understanding of the queen.

My children and I have been reading up on the Queen and we have enjoyed this book. I will recommend it as a great introduction and starter for younger children - when they are ready to read up more, they will have a good context to add in more details about the Queen’s life. Especially like the cover picture of the little girl portraying the Queen. The illustrations inside also have extra details that add in some fun for us, like identifying the celebrities whom she had met which are not named in the text. This book is secular so it does not mention about the Queen’s faith nor its significant influence in her reign. For Christian families, I would consider the title by Alison Mitchell.

A lovely tribute to a Queen who served her nation for 70 years.

This beautiful book tells the abridged version of her life in child friendly language. It would be a fantastic addition to any child’s bookshelf or library, especially in the light of the Queen’s recent passing.

First, a personal note. As someone owned by a corgi mix, I was delighted to see the prominence given to the adorably cute royal corgis throughout. After all, Queen Elizabeth brought the corgi breed to international attention and at one time owned 30 corgis. Heck, even though the book ends prior to her death, two of her corgis (not to mention one of her horses) made an appearance at the state funeral recently.

That said, I'm glad the book not only ended on a happy note but didn't go into the royal shenanigans and issues the Queen faced during her long reign. This is a book for young readers, aimed at simply introducing them to a prominent figure and no need to taint that experience. Bad stuff happens to all of us, so appreciate the focus on her life and accomplishments.

As a former teacher, I immediately latched onto the possibilities for discussion of a various things that the book might promote. For instance, is being a queen as fairy tale wonderful as it sounds? What did she have to give up to fill the role of queen? What would you be willing to give up to reach your goals? How is someone prepared for such a role as they grow up? How would you feel knowing your every word, action, appearance, and even wardrobe (right down to the purse she carried) will be analyzed and reported on endlessly? How much freedom and power does a modern queen have anyway? How is it possible there have been more than one Queen Elizabeth in history? On a personal note, to instill interest in history, one might venture into creating family trees. Discovering you have royal bloodlines, however minute, is a way to make history personal and more interesting than a recitation of mere facts. And....so much more.

Bottom line, this is a bare bones, upbeat look at the life and times of the late Queen Elizabeth. It's an easy read, part of the #LittlePeopleBigDreams series, although reading with a parent opens many other possibilities, and is delightfully illustrated. And, yes, dog lovers, there are many, many corgis that pop up on just about every page. Fun book and shows how childhood dreams can alter. A timeline and real life photos are included at the end.

I am assuming this ARC will be updated to include the Queen's passing. The book is charming, but I really think the illustrations of the Queen make this fashion conscious woman very frumpy, more like her ancestor, Queen Victoria....

Queen Elizabeth is an exception perhaps to the rule; some would say she was born into privilege, part of the elite classes. However, the story rather than side-stepping the facts, focuses on the things that made Elizabeth such a special and much loved monarch.

She was never really seen as a future Queen but her uncle’s abdication threw her into being a future heir to the throne.

The author shows a young child becoming a princess and quickly after her Father’s premature death becoming Queen. In between, she found not just a dream but a sense of duty. Elizabeth, with great maturity pledged to serve her people throughout her life, however short, actively, for the betterment of others and all people.

As a woman she was a outnumbered with few female influencers, when the world was dominated by men, in a man’s world. The life, we celebrated at her Platinum Jubilee was one of overcoming obstacles, inclusion of others and lifelong service.

She could not have envisaged what the future would bring, but she was prepared and enabling so that many others fulfilled their own dreams through her advocacy, support and service.

In recent days the U.K. and across the world, many have given thanks for her life of dedicated service.

This book is not exploiting these recent events but helping our children make sense of another child who made a lasting impression in life.

As with many of the books I’ve read in this series this is in essence what these titles aim to share. Knowledge, facts and that greatest gift to want to make a difference.
