Thank you for the advanced copy. I didn't realise that I had not posted a review of this.

I have not watched the programme on Netflix. Christina Airstrup Hansen is accused of murdering patients under her care in a hospital in Denmark, this is a must for any true crime fan and I think has since got a lot of attention from Netflix.
It is truly a fascinating case and the author goes into tremendous detail about Hansen. This will not be for everyone as the amount of detail is vast.

Highly recommended

๐™๐™๐™š ๐˜พ๐™–๐™จ๐™š: Christina Aistrup Hansen, is a former nurse at Nykรธbing Falster Hospital, Denmark who was charged and convicted of four murders and attempted murder in 2015.

๐™ˆ๐™ฎ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™ค๐™ช๐™œ๐™๐™ฉ๐™จ: Ooh-wee, this was a wild and terrifying case! I think any case that involved healthcare professionals is always extra scary for me since they are the ones we entrusted our lives with.

I have no prior knowledge of this case, and glad that I've learned a lot about it from this book. The in-depth research done by journalist Kristian Corfixen was excellent and the translation was good!

The writing was engaging and although I felt it dragged a bit midway, I still enjoyed this book. I think what makes this book a 5-star read for me, is that it also talks about the aftermath of Christina's conviction - what happened to her while she was incarcerated, the impact of her crimes on the hospital, her colleagues, and how it changed the way hospitals operate now. It is thought-provoking for sure!

This is the book to go to if you want to learn about this case, and if you've read ๐‘‡โ„Ž๐‘’ ๐บ๐‘œ๐‘œ๐‘‘ ๐‘๐‘ข๐‘Ÿ๐‘ ๐‘’, you will want to read this one too!

I really enjoyed this book. The Nurse discussed a case I had never heard of before. I thought it was interesting and well researched.

The Nurse is everything that I love about True Crime. I read this with vigour. Every so often my husband would ask me what I was reading, and I would animatedly describe how a nurse would commit these awful acts. I think he sometimes worries about meโ€“ he questions my passion for true crime. Itโ€™s not exactly the acts per se but itโ€™s the psychology of why a human can commit these atrocities.

Fate is something that can change at the drop of a hat. One minute youโ€™re going into the hospital for something routine and the next youโ€™re on deathโ€™s door, your body wants to go into complete shutdown. That cruel fate lands on several patients of Christina Aistrup Hansen, a nurse working in a Danish hospital. She has been accused of poisoning her patients with Morphine. In fact, it was a well-known fact that when the nurses had a shift with Christina, they knew theyโ€™d be in for a rough time. There were more cardiac arrests during Christinaโ€™s shifts than any other and I find it very strange how her colleagues didnโ€™t pick up on the discrepancies sooner.

If you have watched The Good Nurse on Netflix, you will enjoy this too. As a nurse myself, I found this fascinating and thought-provoking.

It is not just about what the nurse did but about how she got away with it for so long. It doesn't go into great detail about how she killed people but focuses more on her colleagues' suspicions.

I enjoyed it but got a bit bored towards the end with the details of the trial etc.

This is a very thorough real-life account of the case of nurse Christina Airstrup Hansen, who is accused of murdering patients under her care in a hospital in Denmark. It's a fascinating case told in great detail by the author. The first half of the book is really about initial suspicions that something is not right and the second half of the book looks at the criminal trial and aftermath. I think the author has done a great job in collecting the information together and presenting it in a clear and concise way to the reader. I think for me personally, whilst the story is a very interesting one and the book written very well, I probably would have been happy reading an essay or newspaper article about the case. I guess the case itself did not grip me enough and the book felt a little long. For those with an interest in this particular case, it is a very well presented book.

When I say that this book surprised me from the jump, I mean it. First off thank you to Kristian Corfixen, Netgalley and Podium Publishing for sending me a digital arc in exchange for my review.

If you havenโ€™t heard of the Nurse case that took Denmark by storm in 2018 then I would say that you need to either google it or read this book but honestly the book is so good just forget about google. In the book we learn about Christina who is a nurse in the area of the hospital we could call the ED and also works in the long term care department for a while. While working in those departments each saw a spike in patient deaths and Iโ€™m not talking about like 4 more a year, no, Iโ€™m talking about 4 could die in a day. On a single shift.

That scenario actually happened on March 1st of 2015. That night a nurse on the shift finally hit her breaking point and reached out to her significant other who was the doctor in charge of the unit and they reached out to the police together.

The amount of drugs that this nurse gave to people is insane. Personally I donโ€™t know how people who worked with her did not ask for an investigation sooner. The thing that caught me off guard was that this is not the first case that this has happened of a nurse murdering patients. There have been cases in Germany and also in the USA.

If you love true crime please give this book a read. It was a harder read due to all the medical terms but it was so interesting that honestly I didnโ€™t care about having to look things up.

Reading nonfiction true crime is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I enjoy it with a professional historianโ€™s interest: the analysis of evidence and its presentation in text, the exploration of the social and cultural impact on the communities in which these events occur, and the dissection of the institutions and the systems that enable or hide the crimes and the criminals. Corfixenโ€™s The Nurse, about a young womanโ€™s murder of four of her patients in Denmark and her conviction for these crimes, delivers on all three points. It is a well-researched book on the crime, the criminal, and the Danish healthcare, law enforcement, and judicial systems.

Corfixen interviewed the nurse herself, Christina Aistrup Hansen, her colleagues, detectives, victimsโ€™ families and friends, as well as one of the survivors. It presents a fleshed out, rounded account of the events. [If youโ€™re interested in news of the case, you can read more here.]

The Nurse: Inside Denmarkโ€™s Most Sensational Criminal Trial begins well before the case and the trial itself. This first section of the book provides the reader with the necessary background knowledge to understand Hansen as well the hospital system in which she committed her crimes. (The book is published in English, presumably for Danish and non-Danish readers.) This part is told through the experiences of Hansenโ€™s colleagues, one in particular. In subsequent sections, Corfixen takes us back in time to Hansenโ€™s childhood and into her personal life, then into her professional life, through the period of her nursing education, and finally into the microcosmic society of the hospital. The reader is immersed in the community and culture of nurses and medical staff at the Nykรธbing Falster Hospital. The book continues on to detail the crimes themselves and the investigation that was initiated against Hansen. The Nurse ends with the trial and Hansenโ€™s incarceration. These parts of the book are especially intriguing as Corfixen is given rare access to Hansen herself. The reader is treated to a perspective often absent in true crime accounts.

Corfixenโ€™s prose and the way in which they exhibit these diverse perspectives is a critical part of the bookโ€™s success. The writing is smooth, but more significantly, it is seamless as it moves from one point of view to another. The reader gets a privileged view of the events from Hansen as well as from her former colleagues, from the family members of her victims. These are often conflicting โ€” Hansen maintains her innocence throughout โ€” but Corfixen manages to give each perspective time, space, and voice in a balanced way.

The result is an engrossing read that captures the readerโ€™s attention and offers them a textured sense of the macro Danish world and the micro-culture of the Nykรธbing Falster Hospital in which Hansen lived, worked, and committed her crimes. From the bookโ€™s beginning to its end, despite knowing the final outcome, I was compelled to keep reading, not to know what happens, but how it happened and why.

Iโ€™m always intrigued by true crime but when the perpetrator is someone in a profession dear to my heart, it really calls to me.

As an RN, I was appalled by the crimes committed by Danish nurse Christina Aistrip Hansen. A person who has sworn to care for those in need has done the unthinkable and following the investigation as they gather evidence and close in on her is riveting!

This is a translated book but the translator did a remarkable job and once I started this chilling story it was hard to put down. The most interesting part of this story is that of Hansenโ€™s co-workers, those that suspected but either questioned the validity of their suspicions or felt they lacked the proper support within the industry to back their suspicions. Truly terrifying. It seems now that more and more of these types of cases are occurring or at least are being reported.

This is a true crime book that will open a lot of eyes and Iโ€™m highly recommending this one. My thanks to Saga Egmont for this gifted DRC to review.

This was an extremely well researched and information packed account of Danish serial killer, nurse Christina Aistrup Hansen. The book contained lots of interview and police details. It contains some background information and lots of details covering the time Christina was suspected of committing her crimes. The trail was also covered in great detail. This is a wonderful book for people who like to absorb lots of information. It is well written but I would say may be easier for people with some light medical knowledge as it did get a little confusing in parts.

This nonfiction true crime book was about a case I hadn't heard about before. The case was of a nurse who was thought to have killed some of her patients. This book felt like a fictional thriller, instead of a true crime novel with how well it was written. This book offers so much detail and just reading this book alone, I was able to get a good feel of this case.

More than I expected. Thrilling ride in this true life tale. Compelling yet disturbing as โ€˜the nurseโ€™ continues to profess her innocence. As an ex nurse myself, this book gave me chills.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
I had not heard of this case before so I went into this book completely blind. And I'm glad I did. The translator did an incredible job and the readability of this book is very good.
The story itself is quite interesting. I feel like if I were a judge or jury on this case, I would've found her guilty. Without giving spoilers, I won't elaborate.
It took real courage for the nurse to go to the authorities. I understand how tough of a decision that would be. And the fact that once the supervisor was told of the suspicion and never did anything to investigate makes me mad. The nurses that were too afraid to speak up really shows how fairly toxic the work environment was and that management did not value these honest employees. It's awful that they had no support after this case was handled.

The Nurse by Kristian Corfixen is an accounting of one of the most famous trials in Denmark. In 2015, the Denmark police are notified about suspicious deaths that are occurring at Nykabing Falster Hospital. More shocking than the deaths, is the allegation that a nurse, Christina Hansen is responsible. Christina was noted to be the โ€œdevil of deathโ€ as she is suspected of murdering 3 elderly patients and attempted murder of another by administering drug overdoses. Kristian Corfixen provides a thorough account of this crime, using multiple information sources, including communication with the accused, Nurse Christina Hansen. This book was factual, suspenseful, and impossible to put down. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.

Kristian Corfixen has done an incredible job writing The Nurse. This is a gripping and suspenseful account of a nurse in Denmark who is suspected of deliberately killing patients. Corfixen does an excellent job of creating a sense of tension and drama, making the reader feel like they are right there alongside the investigators as they try to solve the mystery.

The Nurse is an excellent read for anyone interested in crime thrillers, or in learning more about how investigations work. Corfixen provides a detailed and fascinating look at the evidence-gathering process, and he makes it clear that no detail is too small when trying to solve a crime. The Nurse is an addictive and suspenseful book that will keep you hooked until the very end.

I refuse to believe this actually happened. The moral part of me is utterly shocked. A dark part of me can't wait for this to become a TV show or movie.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC.

This book started out pretty strong, I enjoyed that it read like a story, less clinical than other nonfiction. But that changed pretty quickly and turned pretty dry. I had a hard time getting through it. It did start to get interesting again a little towards the end but unfortunately this one just really felt like I was reading an extremely long essay. There was so much I felt like was โ€˜fillerโ€™. For example telling us about the hospital having trouble recruiting and retaining top talent - I understand itโ€™s important for us to know that because it shows how this is a contributing factor for someone in a positive of care to be able to do something so terrible but I think this could have been explained in a few paragraphs or maybe even pages max - but instead it was a very long chapter that just over explained this point and made me feel like I was back in school writing an essay and trying to hit my word count. It made me hesitant to keep reading and hit more chapters like this (which there were). The topic and story are fascinating (albeit devastating) but unfortunately this writing style wasnโ€™t my favourite.

This true crime follows a nurse, Christina, who is thought to have been responsible for quite a few deaths on the floor of the hospital where she worked.

While I enjoyed aspects of the book, other parts were to clinical, and rather drug, making it a chore to keep reading through.

Interesting case however.

This book was definitely not what I was expecting it was so much more. After working I the health care industry for half of my life, I really wanted to read this book. This was a compelling and disturbing read and could not put it down. I found it very hard to get my head round that I was reading true crime and not fiction. The nurse involved was a Danish nurse Christina Aistrip Hansen who killed her vulnerable patients but who is still protesting her innocence. This read left me speechless. As for the lessons learned made me angry. The nurse in question was convicted of killing three but as the says a lot were cremated and all evidence was now ashes.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

Compelling, Disturbing Accountโ€ฆ
Compelling and disturbing true crime account of one of Scandinaviaโ€™s most infamous cases and most notorious criminal trials. The story of a well respected and seemingly hard working Danish nurse - Christina Aistrup Hansen - eventually convicted of killing her patients. A nurse who, to this day, still protests her innocence. Drawing on a veritable wealth of information across the board including Hansen herself and in true journalistic fashion the author presents both sides of the coin and reexamines the evidence used at eventual trial. A first class account and presented here with a first class translation.
