This is a fast paced thriller. The story is told from multiple perspectives. There are several twists which kept me guessing. The characters are very interesting. This is well written.

A great book by this fab author. Some obvious plots but equally some great twist as well. Well written page turner

I love this author and was not disappointed. Some of the twists were obvious if you read enough domestic thrillers, but then others less so. It was hard to like any of the characters but then that was kind of the point. You couldn't trust any of them. All in all, a great read to finish off the year.

The Daughter-in-Law is a quick, twisty read by Shalini Boland that her fans are sure to enjoy. When Australian bar manager, Caroline, connects with British pub manager Seb, online, they begin a secret correspondence for months. They share secrets, details about everyday life and Seb plans a trip to finally meet in person. The novel begins when Seb brings Caroline home to meet his family and surprises them with the news they got married-after only knowing each other in person for three weeks. Seb's parents, the pub's owners, are not exactly thrilled at this arrival and news of the marriage and Caroline does not receive a welcome reception from most. Mysterious accidents and things begin to occur, all while Caroline discovers Seb was married previously and his ex-wife has not been heard from in months. There are some unexpected twists in this book and it's a quick read.

The story is a bit "been there done that" and the characters are pretty unlikeable. I don't need a likeable character but I need to be curious/interested in what happened to them and in this case, I did not care.

It was a bit of a rich people behaving badly with lots of secrets. Not a recommendation.

Seb Fletcher has returned back from his Australian travels with a souvenir... his Australian bride Caroline, who he had an online romance with and flew out to meet her. After a whirlwind romance they marry.

Seb introduces Caroline to his parents Lilian and Brian as his wife. They are not very welcoming which makes it more difficult as they are to live with them above the pub the parents own.

This book is told from Caroline, Lilian, Amy and Meg's perspective. I was intrigued how Amy and Meg's story linked in with Caroline and Lilian. I wanted to know what secrets they were all keeping!!

Another great thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. This will definitely be a big hit and a must read.

Shalini is a wonderful contemporary writer. She packs so much into her books. They are thrilling and deep I love this one as much as precious and grateful to have seen it early!

Another page turner from the talented Shalini Boland.

The Royal Oak pub is very much a family run business, started by Brian and Lilian Fletcher and they now work alongside their grown-up sons, Felix and Sebastian. When Sebastian returns from a 3 week holiday in Australia he introduces them to his new wife, Caroline which obviously comes as a huge shock. Sebastian is in love, but Lilian is more concerned than happy at the shock announcement of their whirlwind marriage. Lilian resolves to try and make Caroline feel at home for Sebastian’s sake but finds it difficult as she is worrying about Caroline’s true motives for marrying Sebastian. Caroline, however, is trying her best to not only get used to working and living at the pub, a big change from her life in Australia, but also to get along with her new family. Living and working in the pub means that tensions begin to arise, crossed words are exchanged, and accidents start happening. Caroline soon starts to wonder whether leaving her life in Australia for Sebastian was worth it, especially when the Fletcher family seems to have a lot more secrets than most other families and sooner rather than later those secrets are all going to come spilling out and Caroline finds herself in very real danger.

I really enjoyed this one from Shalini Boland. I did like the two main characters, which surprised me as I definitely thought I would hate one of them, and I really liked hearing the story from their two points of view. I did not see the huge twist coming, and it was pretty huge!!!! I admit it did cross my mind a little earlier in the story, but I quickly dismissed it after thinking about the information that I had already read. Sorry if this is a little vague but as this is a spoiler free review, I don’t want to give anything away. To be honest I was glad I dismissed it as it meant the twist surprised me even more. And as for the second twist right at the end…. I 100% did not see that coming so what a great job the author did!

Overall, another great story from Shalini Boland and after reading The Marchwood Vampires Series earlier in the year I am in awe at how versatile she is. Definitely recommend this one for any psychological thriller fans, you won’t be disappointed.

Thank you to NetGalley, Shalini Boland and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.

Ok, wow! This is my first read by Boland and whoa, the twists! They were crazy! I loved them and even though one was a tad extra it was still fun to play along with. I kept wondering where this story was going and then boom, it was a page turner literally until the end. So.dang.wild. This is also fantastic via audio, I definitely recommend reading it this way.

I cannot wait to read more from this author, both her backlist and anything new she writes! Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the digital copy to review.

Any new book by shalini boland is always near the top of my to be read list. She has a way with words that make you want to keep reading. This book was definitely not one of her best but it was still definitely worth the read.

This author is definitely one of my favorites! I read this book in one sitting. I will say that the plot becomes a bit predictable about half way through but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t still take you for a ride of twists and turns.
Caroline marries Seb after a whirlwind romance and moves in with him at his family’s pub. Things seem to be strained when she arrives and no one, including the pub workers, are happy for the new couple. Why? Caroline will soon find out. I look forward to the next book by Ms. Boland!

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. This is going to be a very short review because I’m on vacation and would rather be lounging around reading books than writing reviews 🤣.

I really enjoyed this one. There were a couple parts that were a bit predictable but for the most part it was suspenseful. I did predict the major twist a tad before it was revealed. I did NOT expect to read what I did in the epilogue.😳The characters were all fine. Of course the book is written so you will not like Lillian. To be honest I think Seb was the most annoying to me. Overall, this is a great psychological thriller and I look forward to reading more by this author.

After meeting on-line, Seb travels to Australia to meet Caroline in person. They feel an instant connection and not only get married, but Caroline accompanies her new husband back to England where his parents own and operate a village pub. While Caroline knows that the initial meeting with her new in-laws will be somewhat awkward, she isn’t prepared for Seb’s mother’s reaction. Lilian is angry and hostile towards her new daughter-in-law and it’s obvious that she’s unhappy with her son’s unexpected marriage. In the days that follow, it is clear that her new family has secrets but Caroline does, too.

The Daughter-in-Law slowly builds in suspense, as the story is told from different points of view. There are several twists that make the story interesting, although the final twist didn’t seem necessary and, for me, didn’t really add to the overall appeal of the book. The characters are varied but I didn’t particularly empathize with any of them, including Caroline. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Ms Boland’s latest book and will definitely be on the lookout for her next endeavor.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
