Super cute. I read this with a 5-year-old who is a lot like Jack's brother Kes in that she's happiest at home and does not like to find herself in unforseeable situations, so following daring Jack's adventures was just the right side of exciting for her -- living vicariously, I guess. :) We both loved the illustrations, and we found it very reassuring that while Jack might be a bit careless in his choice of adventure, the people he meets take good care of him, so it's not like one of those books that like to instill fear in young children as a pedagogical measure. Thumbs up for that!! I truly detest those fear-mongering stories.

This was a wonderful story. Jack wanted to see more of the world. When he got what he wanted, he wanted to return home. The illustrations were very beautiful and captured the spirit of Jack.

I received a copy of this story through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
Jack has the soul of a wanderer, so one day when the chance comes, he wanders away from home. He makes his way over fields, through town, and onto a boat. Once the boat encounters a storm, Jack realizes he would rather be home and when the boat finally docks he makes his way back home where his family is waiting for him.
This book is a sweet story with lovely illustrations. Even though Jack realizes he wants to be home, he still wanders, just with his family in tow.

Okay this book is GREAT! We super duper loved it, and the end even made me a little bit teary. We own a Jack Russel Terrier that loves to run away and adventure outdoors so this hit super close to home. My daughter loved it and kept calling ‘Jack’ by our family dogs name ‘Gus’,

The illustrations and rhyming verse were beautiful and catchy and I loved the underlining message that the grass is not always greener on the other side. 💚 highly recommend this one for babies, toddlers and young kids.

Thank you NetGalley and Flux for the ARC to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A mischievous dog is led by his nose into adventure and some trouble (much like small children). But home and love await his return! This is a lovely rhyming story with clear but muted illustrations done by the author. Loved it!
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from North Star Editions/ Jolly Fish Press via NetGalley. Thank you!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I really enjoyed Jack the Runaway Terrier. The story was imaginative and fun.also the descriptions were really nice. "The wind licks the churning waves, whipping up a spray" really stood out as a sentence.

Sweet story about a precocious little puppy who loves to explore the world. The illustrations are nice and have an old school story book feel.

Perfect book for a dog lover. Jack the exploring loving dog, ends up on a bigger adventure than he could handle and realizes the importance of safety and comfort with your family. The illustrations are perfect for this sweet story.

Thank you NetGalley and North Star Editions for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book is about an adventurous dog named Jack who loves exploring. One day Jack bites of more adventure than he can chew. I really like how the book initially started with rhyming, at some point this did change and it lost the rhyming. I thought the illustrator did a fantastic job creating beautiful pictures. Overall, this is a sweet book that I would recommend to families of young children who love dogs or Jack Russel Terriers.

Thank you NorthStar/Jolly Fish Press and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this wonderful book. Beautiful illustrations and lovely flow makes for a delightful read. Jack is a rambunctious, adventure seeking dog who seizes an opportunity to explore when he gets a chance. He quickly learns that he bit more than he can chew and mends his ways upon successful return home. I loved the detailed illustrations, the lovely color palette, and the beautiful flow of the story. Can’t wait to share this book with my students and can already see it becoming one of the favorites.

I tend to overuse the term "sweet" on reviews for children's books, so let's call this one "sweet with a beat". Written in rhyme, there's a rhythm to the tale of the wayward Jack that had me envisioning children's eyes dancing as they read or listen to Jack's misadventure. Jack, like many dogs, has a bit of the wanderer in him, one that gets him in serious trouble this time. I mean, has your dog ever run away and gone to sea?

Soft colors show the contrast between Jack's serene, peaceful home and the darker blues, frothing about, of the water during his misadventure at sea. The drawings are detailed enough to draw you in while still giving your imagination room to roam. Needless to say, this being a child's story, Jack returns safely home, having, hopefully, learned a lesson. Even his canine brother hopes that's true. Jack's human seems to have learned the need to keep her beloved pets on leash and close to her, too, another good lesson.

Nicely done and I enjoyed the flow and rhythm of the tail, not to mention the artist's rendering of the sadder but wiser Jack. Thanks #NetGalley and #NorthStarEditions - #JollyFishPress for letting me spend some time with Jack and his family. Having owned a dog that took flight all too often despite my best efforts, this one hit home.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. This was a cute book and a quick read. Jack is an inquisitive terrier and gets more than he bargained for exploring his area. He loves exploring but after his short jaunt,he decided he'd stay closer to home.

The story and the illustrations are a true delight. My grandaughter loved this (and so did I until the 5th again ,read it again grandma). It is lovely to read and flows nicely. I imagine I will have to read it many more times as it will become a family classic.

Jack the Runaway Terrier is an emotional journey, that is for sure. Fortunately, it's an adorable one with a lot of fun to derive from. Granted, with any "runaway" story, there's bound to be some sad feelings accompanying a portion of the main character's journey, but we all can easily assume there will be a happy ending to follow.

With vibrantly colored and beautiful illustrations, we follow Jack through all of his rambunctious adventure-seeking behavior. It starts at the farm in which he lives with his brother and owner, leading him on a grand journey all the way to the town and even out to sea! Eventually, as with all new experiences, Jack learns quite a lot and adapts his worldview toward ensuring his adventure-loving nature as well as comfort and safety align together for a good life for a happy terrier.

This is definitely a book I'd be happy to read to the kids in my life at some point in the future.

I thought that this was a brilliant book!

It had a great storyline and it was very well written

The book had a lovely natural flow to the story and it was one that myself and my daughter really enjoyed - she was calling him cheeky Jack and told my mum about the story the next time she saw her so it was a big hit in our house!

I loved the ending - a lovely book and one I can see being a firm favourite.

It is 5 stars from me for this one – very highly recommended

I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

If you have a dog that likes to to herself for walks, you will appreciate this story. And so will your little ones. Jack is a sweet little scoundrel who can't see the harm in having an outing alone, until he does. The rhyme and rhythm mostly work, and the illustrations are divine.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy. Cute story! Had a cute lesson, and rhyming was adorable. The illustrations were colorful. Lots of good vocabulary for 2nd-5th grade. As a teacher, I will definitely be adding to my class library.
