A HARD DAY FOR A HANGOVER, is the third and latest installment in the Darynda Jones's wine mystery series. The story continues as a series of women go missing, and Sheriff Sunshine "Sunny" Vicram feels powerless to stop it.

I really enjoyed the audiobook, and found that the narrator made a great voice for the MC and cast. I loved that this third book focused more on the romance and love interest between Sunny and Levi. It's always fun when a book crosses genres, and you get a little mystery and some romance too.

I love Sunshine! This is the third book in the Sunshine Vicram series. The characters are amazing, the banter and relationship between the characters is so lively. The relationship between Sunshine and her daughter is a joy to read.

A young, injured woman is found on the side of a mountain by a hunter. While investigating Sunshine realizes that she is not the first victim. As she struggles to solve the mystery, her daughter, Auri, is also doing some sleuthing on her own. Add to this, there is still the enigma of Levi and their shared past.

As always, Darynda Jones delivers a great story. As for the narration, I will listen to almost any book Lorelei King reads. She could make the back of a cereal box sound entertaining. I highly recommend the series.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

SUMMARY: In this third installment in the Sunshine Vicram series, teen girls have been going missing in Del Sol, and it’s up to Sheriff Sunshine (and her intrepid daughter Auri) to solve the mystery before it’s too late!

I listened to every book in the series on audio, which I strongly recommend. The narrator, Lorelei King, is perfection as the snarky small town sheriff, and the stories (while serious in nature) are just light-hearted enough to listen to while cooking, cleaning, and driving about town (you know, how audiobooks should be enjoyed).

The mix of sassy humor and seedy crimes is perfect for fans of Finlay Donovan or Veronica Mars. Recommended by me—but you definitely need to read/listen to the first two books in the series first, starting with A Bad Day for Sunshine.

4.75 Stars!
I'm so, so sad this series is over. I enjoyed each and every book. Sunshine's friends and family were some of the most entertaining and sometimes odd groups of characters. The mysteries were always intriguing even if this one was a little too on the nose.

This book focused a bit more on Sunshine and Levi's romance while the two mysteries were nearly secondary. No complaints since I love the romantic aspects. Levi and Sunshine's road to happily ever after was fraught with misunderstandings, interruptions, and lots of longing, but this book brought it full circle to a satisfying and at times, emotional conclusion.

There wasn't much mystery to the mystery, but like the previous two books, once it ramped up, it was heavy on action and nail-biting suspense. A couple of additional red herrings might have made the mystery more surprising. If this had been book one, I might have wanted more mystery development, but being the third and final book, the focus on revelations, reconciliations, and relationships made me a satisfied reader.

NOTES ON THE AUDIOBOOK:
The narrator for this series was the ideal choice. She captured the humor (snark), poignancy, thrills, and romance perfectly. The presentation was exactly how it sounded in my head.

I was excited for Book #3 in the Sunshine Vicram series, but was a bit disappointed. I enjoyed the first two books so much and sped through them. I had a harder time getting into this one. This third installment did do a good job of answering some lingering questions from the previous books. The entire series is perfect for someone looking for a light mystery.

I listened to the audio version and the narrator was excellent!

Thank you to NetGalley for a digital ARC!

I do love the Sunshine Vicram series. It is reminisce of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. Humor runs deep throughout this series. Sunshine is the Sheriff in a small-town police force in the mountains of New Mexico. The town is full of quirky characters that Jones creates expertly. I would suggest to read these novels in order to get the full vibes of all these characters. This title is the third in the series. It is action packed with great pacing.
There are mysteries going on - all with Sunshine (I love her name, Sunshine Vicram) bouncing from one crisis to the next. The romance ramps up with Sunshine and Levi as well. I thought this one was the best in the series. Hoping that there is more! A fun, enjoyable, and entertaining read!
Also love the audio version. The narrator, Lorelei King, is excellent - she narrates all three of the series! She brings it to life!

Stephanie Plum, meet Sunshine Vickram. Sunshine is sheriff in a small town, complete with a hunky deputy chief, a motley crew of deputies, a crackerjack daughter who is on track to be an investigator at age 15. And then there's Levi Ravinder, a long-time crush of Sunshine and, it turns out, her daughter's father. I didn't realize that this is the last book in the series (only 3?) because I sure could use more.

I listened to the audiobook, read by Lorelie King, and it was so good! Ms. King gets the voices just right, although at times it's almost like listening to the other series.

I just reviewed A Hard Day for a Hangover by Darynda Jones. #NetGalley

Another fun zany highly enjoyable adventure mystery with MC Sunshine Vikram as sheriff of Del Sol, New Mexico.
Her job is still hectic, her family life filled with lovable but taxing family members … if you are looking to loose yourself in a good story, look no farther. This new book - out December 6th is the finale to a humorous and daring mystery trilogy that I definitely recommend. Darynda Jones’ characters are well developed, there are interesting intersecting story-lines, hilarious chapter headers and the mystery is well plotted.
I am a little sad to knowing that this is the last installment since I have loved reading these books and getting to know the characters.
This is the third book in a trilogy, so this is not really a standalone read, the author has, of course, included small reminders as far as the backstory is concerned and if you end up reading it as a standalone you can still understand what is going on but you would miss out on the character and story development so I would definitely read all three in order !

Sunshine gives me life! I love this series so much for its likeable characters and great plotting. I am hopeful for a 4th book, but if this is the end of the road, I am very pleased to have been a fan.

I want to like this book but it is such a soap opera. In the first chapter we are plunged into “the father of my child wants to murder and I have to stop him but he doesn’t love me but my best friend does love me but I don’t love him”. Give me some mystery, dang it. I don’t love all the non-mystery elements here.

“I’ve always wondered what it would be like to kill people from a distance.” She snapped back when she realized what she’d said. “Bad guys. I mean, what it would be like to kill bad guys from a distance.” ⁣

AHDFAH is the third installment of the Sunshine Vicram series and it’s full of fun, sarcasm, a little spice and lots of danger. I felt this book was a bit more dark and menacing than the others, which totally brings it out of the cozy adjacent category. I had my hand to my mouth a few times and honestly, I live for this version of the series. Definitely my favorite of the three, this is a series that cannot be missed. ⁣

There are a lot of subplots in this book at one point. Jones even lists all the things that Sunshine is doing and I thought “holy crap, that’s a long laundry list” Thankfully there’s a main plot and the subplots don’t muddle with it too much. ⁣

Lorelei King is back as the reader for the audio and it’s absolutely perfection. King hits the banter and snark.. but also really makes your skin crawl on the gruesome parts.⁣

Overall, a more dark Sunshine book, but I’m liking the direction it’s going. Thank you @macmillan.audio and @smpromance for the gifted copy. A Hard Day for a Hangover is out now!

I have read this series from the start and loved it. This is the first book where I also listened to the audio version. The narrator really brings this story to life.

4.25/5

If there is one series that would go on my list of top 10 series I love, it would definitely be the Sunshine Vicram series from Darynda Jones. I can't really come to terms with the fact that A Hard Day for a Hangover is the end of the line for Sunny and Auri's story, and I hope that despite what Jones has said, there will at least be a spinoff or something. As with the other 2 books before it, each chapter starts with a fun quip and there were some excellent ones in this installment. There was also more than one mystery that Sunny needed to solve, and of course, Auri played a part in solving more than one thanks to her inquisitive nature and desire to help others. And this book wouldn't have been complete without some romance, so prepare yourself for some spice!

I think it is highly advantageous to read this series in order so you can get the full backstory for all of the characters. Jones does provide some background information, but you will understand a lot more if you read in order. This is also a wonderful series to listen to on audiobook, and thankfully Lorelei King narrates all of them. I love the way she brings the entire cast of characters to life, not just Sunny, and though I love a full cast for multiple viewpoints, King has an exceptional ability to make them all different. Oddly enough A Hard Day for a Hangover ended up being my least favorite of the trilogy and it’s really hard to get the “why” of that across without sounding like I loved the book less than I actually did. I feel like when you are ending a series, the last book needs to be monumental, and even though there were lots of the same things I’ve known and loved about the series there wasn’t really anything extra brought to the table here. This could just be me, and I still got a ton of enjoyment and closure from this final installment. If you love goofy mysteries and endearing characters, I recommend this entire series, and they are a really quick read at that!

I LOVED this mystery and what a great ending to the Sunshine Vicram trilogy. Very funny and great character development. The narration was spot on!

For me this series becomes more entertaining all the time. Sheriff Sunshine Vicram comes into her own a little more each book and I love the 'Gilmore Girl'ness of her relationship with her daughter. If you loved the banter and fun of Gilmore Girls then the Sunshine's brand of dialogue and banter with everyone around her will probably work for you.

This has been my favorite book in the series so far. I love that Sunshine and Levi are finally taking care of their past and all the secrets from when Sunshine was abducted and lost about a month of her memories are out. I have a thing for the second chance romance trope and this one has been great for me.

Last book I struggled with how much ended up focused on Auri and her trying to super slooth around behind her mom's back. It was a bit too much but I think Darynda Jones has found a better balance. Yes Auri is still breaking rules to investigate behind her moms back but it is more believable this time around and more appropriate to her age. There was a girl found in a canyon, barely alive and Sunshine is looking for who she is, how she got there and how it matches up with a few other girls that have disappeared in the last few years that wasn't taken seriously under the previous sheriff.

Between racoon antics, alternating coffee and wine dependencies, sex talks with her daughter (so hillarious), and doomsday muffins Sunshine will sort out her romantic life, figure out who the serial rapist is and somehow raise her daughter, keep a relationship with her parents and prevent the love of her life from killing the family member out to destroy him.

Really the best book of the series so far and I can't wait to see what kind of shenanigans Sunshine and Auri can get up to in the future.

This series is not for me. The pacing was disjointed and I find a lot of what was happening creepy. Plus the dialogue was clunky at times. All in all, not for me

Thank you NetGalley & St. Martens press for this arc. While I loved the first two books of this series, I felt that this installment fell short in the fact that it felt repetitive. I love the dynamic of the mother / daughter relationship and jabs, but found it tiring.

I have enjoyed each of the books in this series. However, I believe this book was the best yet! I suspect it was the final one in this series - making it a trilogy. If that's the case, then it was a wonderful one to finish up with. Of course, if Ms. Jones decided to write another one to carry on the storyline, I'd read it just to see what else these characters have to say.

This series its fun, snarky and chock full of mystery with a touch of romance to balance it all out. It's the perfect combination and exactly what I need sometimes.

Sunshine is the sheriff of a small town in New Mexico, the mother of a teenage daughter and a woman carrying an unrequited love for a man named Levi. Sounds pretty basic, right? Nope. There is so much more blended into this storyline that complicates everything.

The author always does a nice job of balancing multiple storylines at the same time. You have a mystery that Sunshine (the sheriff) is trying to solve. Yet you also have personal storylines entwined with it. Everything just seems to flow easily and keeps the reader involved.

AUDIOBOOK: In addition, I also listened to the audiobook and it was superb. I love the way the narration is done and it makes the characters in this series really come to life for me. 5 stars

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC and ALC. I voluntarily chose to read/listen and review them and the opinions contained within are my own.

Can I just say that I love the characters in this series? They are so likable! The entire series (three so far) have some of the best funny one liners I’ve heard in any book. From the signs at the local coffee shop/bar/beauty shop to the hysterical lines that Sunshine says kept me laughing. I truly hope that there is a 4th book, but if this winds up being the 3rd and final in the series-I’d say I’m still satisfied!

It's now been over a month since I finished A Hard Day for a Hangover and my delight with it has not lessened. (I truly thought I had already posted a review earlier.) It had me laughing, holding my breath in fear and trepidation, laughing some more, shedding a tear, and finally, sighing in utter contentment. My only complaint was tempered with praise: it was a fantastic finale to a great series, but--DARN!-- it was the end of a fantastic series. That said, I would have hunted Ms. Jones down and shaken her if she had left us hanging as she did at the end of A Good Day for Chardonnay, but I am still sad. Sunshine Vicram is the perfect heroine and the perfect sheriff of a town I'd very much like to visit, but Levi Ravinder and the host of marvelous secondary characters will continue to delight in multiple rereads in years to come. I was fortunate to listen to the audiobook, performed superbly by Lorelie King, but I treasure my printed copy as well.
