Tell Me Lies by Teresa Driscoll
My rating: 3/5
⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hannah and her husband Sam have hit a rough patch in their marriage. In attempts to save their marriage, they have been going to counseling and decide to take a vacation to Owl Cottage with their daughter Lily. When they arrive, strange things start happening to them. How will their stay at Owl Cottage end?

This was my first book from this author and I will definitely read another because the overall story was pleasing. The multiple POVS and short chapters helped with the pace of the book.

I felt like this book had great potential, but unfortunately there was just too much going on that took away from the plot. The redeeming part of this book was the ending. Everything was explained and I definitely did not expect it. I think there were some parts that could have been omitted from this book. I am sitting here questioning why some pieces were included because they really didn’t help support the main story. This book started off pretty slow and about halfway through it started to get more interesting. Overall it was an okay read, but I’m a little conflicted on how I feel about it. It just wasn’t my favorite.

Thank you @netgalley and Amazon Publishing UK for this ARC. This one will be published on April 18!

I've become quite a fan of Teresa Driscoll's books and was thrilled to receive an advanced copy of Tell Me Lies. As always, I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced domestic thriller.

Hannah's past has kept her from forming a full and satisfying relationship with her husband but they were happy - until she learned he had an office fling. After months of counseling, they - along with their daughter - decide to rent a cottage in Cornwall where things go progressively from strained to bad to worse. With so many strange actors in Hannah's life it's difficult to decide who is good or bad or crazy or even if, perhaps, it's Hannah herself who needs help. When it everything comes to a bloody, crashing conclusion, what will remains will shock you.

Coming out in April '23, you won't want to miss Tell Me Lies.

This is nothing short of sheer perfection! It's everything you'd want in a psychological thriller and then some.

The book has a good pace and is kept moving forward throughout. The characters are so well fleshed out and realistic, with realistic problems and reactions.

There is a sense of tension and unease built throughout the book and resulting in a jaw dropping ending

There are a few subplots woven into the story which compliment the main plot perfectly. There are no plot holes or rushed endings, it's all so neatly written and perfectly timed out

Throughout the story, were given the current events aswrll as flashbacks to the main characters childhood trauma and it was impossible not to get completely invested in such a heartbreaking tale. The story is just so beautifully written and it really does pull on the heart strings, especially the image of the little girl clinging to her dad.

Nothing was as it seemed in the story but its not the case of an unreliable narrator which I loved! She is the woman you thought you knew and were reporting for throughout and the twists in the reality are things you never see coming. There are so many secrets and lies that by the end, everything you thought you knew is being questioned. It's so cleverly written that you'd never have thought it would end the way it did.

I can't speak highly enough of this one, it's been a sheer joy to lose myself in this story for a day and I can't wait to see what else the author has available. A mist read for any fans of domestic noir/ psychological thrillers

I tried to like this book because I actually have read and enjoyed every other book this author has written. However even though I started and stopped this book at least 3 times I just had to give up on it.

This was AMAZING, an unsettling domestic thriller filled switch so much tension but not an uncomfortable amount. Her writing is expressive, it grabbed my attention from page one all the way until the last page. Hannah is so confused and very angry after her husband Sam had an affair and I don’t blame her. The family go on a holiday to Owl cottage in Cornwall in an attempt to repair her marriage but horrible events create a havoc in their relationship. I love that we get multiple POVs and how we get the mental struggles from both the people dealing with them and the people trying to help. Needless to say this is such a good read get your hands on it when possible!

This book, Tell Me Lies, is about a woman named Hannah who is dealing with a tragedy from her past and also complications in her present. Strange things begin happening when her and her family go away to a Cottage, and Hannah tries to figure out what’s going on before it’s too late. 3/5 stars.

Hannah and Sam’s marriage is in trouble after Sam had an affair. So to rekindle their romance they decided to go on holiday to a cottage in Cornwall called Owl cottage with their eight year old daughter Lily. But from the start weird things start to happen. They keep waking up to dead owlets on the mat and they first think that there is a cat managing to come into the cottage and leaving them there. But how can that be when the doors and windows are all closed. Then, there is knocking on the front door but, they open the door there is nothing there. What is going on?
Hannah thinks that she is losing her mind and dealing with everything. Which gives flashbacks to when she was a little girl and the tragedy of her father dying. She first accuses Sam of what is happening. But what is happening is more sinister than that.
Thank you Amazon publishing for a copy of Tell me lies by Teresa Driscoll. I usually really enjoy books from this author but, for me personally I struggled with this one. I found it had an interesting premise. But the story line was choppy and so much going on that that just wondered what the heck was going on. It only comes clear at the end of the story. It is just an okay read for me. 3 stars

I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Somewhat slow in places, but the plot did eventually pick up. The dead owls delivered a creepy intense vibe, but unfortunately the reveal didn't live up to the hype.
A slow start, a fantastic middle, and a somewhat disappointing reveal that didn't quite match the plot.

3.5/5 Hannah and Sam travel with their daughter Lily to a cottage in Cornwall. Sam had an affair on Hannah, they've gone through counseling and now they feel a little time away as a family is now what is needed. Strange things start happening right away, dead owls on their mat, Lily having an imaginary friend and Hannah suffering from symptoms equal to a breakdown. The pace picked up in the second half which I read in one day. Hannah is an unreliable narrator because her past trauma is causing her to question everything that is currently happening.

Wow! Did not expect that! This book went in a whole other direction! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, and so many many crazy twists and turns! So many twists that I didn't expect almost all of them?! Wow! What a book! The storyline was so very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I highly recommend reading this book it was really different and definitely worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

I did enjoy this one but found it a bit repetitive. Sam and Hannah plan a holiday at Owl Cottage in a last ditch attempt to save their marriage. Plenty of mysterious goings on occur. Sam has confessed to having an affair so Hannah is already suspicious of him. I found Hannah to be too introspective, a lot of the time we were getting a rehash of childhood events which in the end up seemed a bit irrelevant to the storyline. A few twists but more of a family drama than a thriller.

Dark, creepy and nail biting. Another brilliant thriller from one of the best authors. This book literally made me jump at times. Brilliant story xx

Hannah and Sam set out to a vacation hideaway as they try and mend their marriage after Sam’s affair. But as strange things begin to occur at the cabin, Hannah’s hope for an idyllic getaway is quickly dashed. Tell Me Lies is a slow burn thriller, that really takes its time to get to the heart of the story. Hannah’s dealing with some psychological baggage, and her musings tend to clog up the chapters and sap some of the strength of the plot. When things start to heat up (with the return of some characters from a previous novel), it’s almost too late, but the plot twists save the story. It’s just a chore to get there, though. I loved the author’s previous books, but this one just didn’t hold my interest. I received an arc of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Tell Me Lies by Teresa Driscoll is a very dark and unsettling story, It is a broody book, which hovers between being very dark and creepy to being a psychological thriller. I think it managed to be both types of books at different parts of the storyline. The storyline is extremely clever and I really thought parts of the storyline were genius, probably because I didn’t see them coming!
I really enjoyed reading this book and think it could be the author’s best book yet.
Highly recommended

It was rather disorienting to me for the POV to be written as though addressing another character in the book. So I did not enjoy this one. I also prefer the pacing to be faster.

The storyline is not bad though. I liked the setting. Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more as a movie.

A definite page turner with short chapters leaving you wanting more! I've read Teresa's last book and this is just as good. She builds the tension with her atmospheric writing and her character descriptions.

I normally love a Teresa Driscoll book. This one I struggled with as found Hannah so self absorbed and overthinking, I just wanted to shake her.

Apart from that it was an easy read as I really wanted to know why and who was responsible. My feelings are not going to put me off this author's books as I really appreciate the plots that she comes up with.

I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.

This was my first novel by Teresa Driscoll. I mostly enjoyed Tell Me Lies, but for me, it still ended up being only a 3 star read. Right off of the bat, I enjoyed the countryside cottage atmosphere as well as the way the story took off talking about owls. Owl Cottage was described perfectly, and really set the tone for the book. However, as I got about halfway through the story, I felt nothing was happening, and things got pretty repetitive. I did enjoy the flashbacks throughout the novel, of when Hannah and Sam met as well as her childhood. The author's writing style flowed nicely, and kept me intrigued enough to finish. This was not a bad book by any means, but it just didn't have enough to "wow" me. The setting, writing style and character development were what I enjoyed the most. I just wouldn't classify this as a "thriller", more of a novel of relationships, trauma, mental health issues and dealing with healing.
