St. Patrick, while not canonized in the Catholic Church, had slowly grown to becoming a popular saint nonetheless. This books beautiful classic styled illustrations is no exception, breaking down who Patrick was for a young audience. I hope they continue this series, as I’d love to see more saints come alive, particularly more less popularized ones.

I received this advanced reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for this honest review. Saint Patrick the Forgiver is a useful story to accompany teachings about forgiveness, as well as Patrick's missionary work in Ireland. I read this with my child, who was intrigued and entertained by the rhyme scheme and wanted to learn more about St. Patrick after reading. 4/5 stars.

A picture book that teaches kids about the history behind St. Patrick’s Day. I love how the author breaks down complicated concepts and delivers them in age-appropriate form. The visuals in this book are also amazing. This is an excellent read for children between the ages of 2-5.

A beautiful little book about St. Patrick and his story. The book is written as a poem and captivated the ears of my children. The book talks about God’s Grace and forgiveness - an important part of st. Patrick’s day that is often forgotten.

This book is short and sweet and who doesn’t love a good rhyme. Although, it is marketed as a children’s book and it does great job at that. However I also think it would be a great resource for adults as well. For I would like to reference the author’s note, where it implies that when we usually celebrate St. Patrick’s, it is the wrong thing we are celebrating. We focus on the superficial details of that day and forget about the reason of why we celebrate it, well that’s St. Patrick himself. This book is a great way where we can learn about the tradition and the marvelous deeds of St. Patrick. How God spoke to him? What his struggles were? How he was able to get a following in Ireland? And of course we can not have an Irish story with some Irish tales mixed in there! This is an amazing resource for kids and adults to learn the true meaning behind St. Patrick’s day and it’s perfect as the day is nearing. For now as we wear green or get pinched well now we know why…

*received for free from netgalley for honest review* I had a similar book to this as a kid but i think that one was a bit better. I personally did not care for the "heathen" page in this book, that instantly lowered the book from the 3star to 2. There were some forced rhymes as well that didn't help, overall would not buy myself but possibly would recommend.

Ned Bustard’s illustrations are delightful as always! I love how the story goes through some of the myths about him, but tells all the facts of his life as well! I love all the Celtic knots!

A nice and straightforward story for younger children to be able to understand the life and history of Saint Patrick. I didn't really care for the style of illustrations though.

I don't think my grandchildren know about Saint Patrick, to them it is a day where they wear green. This book is told in a rhyming way that is easy to read aloud. It shares the story of a young boy who was taken from his home in Old Britain and sold into slavery in Ireland. He was a shepherd when he accepted God's grace and prayed daily. While he slept one night, he had a vision where he was told it was time to return home. After a long and dangerous journey he made it home to a happy reunion with his parents. He remained home for several years until another vision called him back to Ireland. Like many others, he didn't want to follow this request, but eventually he did. For many years, he preached around Ireland, especially about forgiveness and using a shamrock, the trinity. The book does mention some of the stories that surround Saint Patrick as well. I enjoyed this book and am going to purchase a copy for my Sunday School library. Although Saint Patrick is a catholic saint, it is a wonderful Christian story surrounding this holiday with good illustrations and easy to follow text. I definitely recommend it for those who want to know the truth behind Saint Patrick, christian families and church groups.

Saint Patrick the Forgiver by Ned Bustard is a great primer to the life of Saint Patrick, with beautifully vivid illustrations enriched with Christian and Celtic imagery. I enjoyed reading it on my own and to my three year old. I appreciated how it mentioned some of the legends about Saint Patrick while making clear that some of them are probably tall tales, and focused on what we know to be true about Saint Patrick's life.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

‘Saint Patrick the Forgiver: The History and Legends of Ireland's Bishop' by Ned Bustard is a rhyming picture book for young readers.

This is the true story of Saint Patrick, including his words from his Confessions and debunking a few of the common myths about him.

The illustrations in linocut are bold and striking. The accompanying rhymes feel a little clunky to me sometimes, but the facts are good and its an interesting subject.

"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

As a Catholic, I have to admit I know very little about St-Patrick. I am now slightly more educated and will do a bit of research myself, because the story's about him seem very entertained.

As for the book, the writing was fun to read and very entertaining. I enjoyed the sentence "Leave your shenanigans and seek the One-in-Three" very very much .

I'm impressed! Love this book on Saint Patrick. From Patrick's point of view, he tells your young readers about his life, starting when we was a young boy, kidnapped and sold into slavery. And about how God called him to lead people to Christ, to shepherd them, and teach about the gift of forgiveness. The illustrations are fun with much Irish influence and Celtic symbols. Overall, a great read!!

This is such a great book for celebrating St. Patrick with kids. I love the illustrations, and it rhymes! All in all, this would be a wonderful addition to your library to help introduce little ones to a great hero of the faith.

Ned Bustard’s Saint Patrick the Forgiver is a “wee” introduction to the life and deeds of St. Patrick for the very young. The lilting rhyme kept my children engaged. I would recommend it for preschool to first grade age children. As its target audience is young, the concepts taught are simple: St. Patrick’s life story, the legends attributed to him, and the spread of Christianity in Ireland. It opened up conversation with my children about the Holy Trinity and using a shamrock as a visual to explain the “three-in-one”. Overall good educational book with interesting pictures for littles.

A terrific picture book about the life of Saint Patrick. The story is told in a simple rhyming verse that will appeal to readers of all ages. It covers Patrick's life from being a slave in Ireland to his return to Britain and entering the priesthood to his return to Ireland to bring Christianity to the island. The theme of forgiveness and how hard it can be to accomplish runs throughout the story.

There is a colorful illustration for each verse, and I loved the simplicity and beauty of each picture as it related to the verse. They also incorporated Celtic symbols within the images, adding an extra touch of Irish culture.

I highly recommend this as an introduction to the story behind St. Patrick's Day.
