That was really cute! I loved all the characters and I can't wait to read more volumes and find out what happened. That volume ended on a cliffhanger, which is a good way to make you want to read the rest of the series. While not groundbreaking, it's very promising!

I can see how this manga is popular but personally the forced romance and the story all together was very very weird. It was not for me in the slightest.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this book!

I am a sucker for cute romance, and that is exactly what you get with this first volume. Is this a little teen movie-ish? Absolutely. In part, it reminds me of She’s All That where the main character doesn’t want the cute boy or anything to do with him. Here our girl feverently believes that she absolutely will not fall in love. But then we spend the whole book with the cute boy, who happens to be an Idol, convincing her that she is worth getting to know. Then you get hit with the end to ensure that you pick up the next volume. I don’t completely understand idol life and some of the way it’s talked about, it’s biases etc, but I did thoroughly enjoy this book. While it’s very much “teen girl drama”, it puts a very happy smile on your face and makes you want to book 2.

At first it took me awhile to get into this one because Sahoko is almost mean in her behavior and attitude towards beautiful guys thinking them untrustworthy. Once the story becomes more about Kouta the J-Pop idol it's easier to enjoy especially when we get to see Sahoko slowly soften and become a bit less guarded. It will be interesting to see where this will go. Kouta is definitely the sunshine in this pairing and I'm looking forward to learning more about his past.

I really wanted to like this, but unfortunately it fell flat for me. After reading it, the only thing I felt was: meh. I didn't feel like the main characters had any chemistry, and our protagonist feels so one dimensional. Her deciding towards the end that she does indeed like the ML really through me in a loop, as it kind of defeated the purpose of the first half of the story. Not sure if I'll be continuing this, but may check out the next volume just to see where the story goes.

I wanted to read this manga because of the description. While I found it to have an humorous and interesting premise, it falls a little flat on the delivery. I found the characters flat and predictable in an unpleasant way.

My Special One is a series that has potential; a jaded girl struggles with her feelings towards a handsome male idol singer in some admittedly heartwarming interactions. However, the protagonists still feel inorganic and the chemistry is lacking in some places. It doesn't help that I don't want to root for Sahoko in these first few chapters, mainly because of her unlikeable nature (initially, I might add). I don't mind seeing where this one goes, but for now I'm not feeling won over by this shojo.

She swore of beautiful boys. He's a beautiful pop star. For some reason, he's in her families diner. This will they-won't they manga has an interesting premise. He wants to changer her mind, but when he does, he runs. This volume does not have them kissing by the end, in fact, he wants to remain friends, but it explores the concepts of beauty, gender roles, and romance. Overall, an interesting read, but I'd like a better idea of how old he is (it seems like he's 18-21 and she's 16?).

Sahoko Wakaume has sworn off love, and gorgeous boys, after one broke her heart. Now, she's determined to focus on her other goals, and not give love a second-thought. Then she meets J-pop star Kouta Kirigaya, a gorgeous idol, who is kinder than she expected.

Over the course of this volume, she finds herself drawn to him, but isn't sure if she just likes his acting, or if it's more. This volume makes me think that this series will be about personal growth and finding yourself. It's not just a love story. Whether the main characters fall in love almost seems to be irrelevant compared to what I think they will learn through this experience.

The artwork is cute, and well done. The story is entertaining and the story moves along at a good pace. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good high school story (especially a potential romance).

Aaaah this was just the cute read I was looking for! I’ve been highly anticipating this new series and so far it hasn’t let me down!

The art is cute and well drawn and I loved both of the main characters although Kouta’s teariness was unexpected but also quite amusing!

While Sahoko’s reason for hating pretty boys might seem a bit ridiculous, I understand the humiliation and hurt that must have come with it so I do get why she feels a little traumatised and I was pleasantly surprised to see her work through it so quickly in this volume before Kouta turned around and revealed his own feelings!

Easy to read and relatively light hearted, this was a fun first volume and I can’t wait to pick up the next one!

This is a perfect shojo manga series for middle schoolers and up. I would recommend this to someone who outgrew the children’s graphic novels and was looking to take the leap into manga or for someone looking for a light romance story.

This was a really cute manga! I loved the art style. And it blended Idol culture and romance very well. I can’t wait to get it for the library.

meh. This was Okay - I definitely DNF’d this which is whatever. It was funny (ish) and I will probably purchase it for my library’s YA manga collection.

Isn't it every middle schooler's dream to fall in love with a celebrity? Well, that's not how Sahoko Wakaume feels. After a brutal rejection, Sahoko swears off pretty boys even when a charming idol, Kouta Kirigaya, visits her parent's restaurant and is determined to woo her. I like that Sahoko is cynical, and straightforward while Kouta is cute and squishy. Sometimes

My Special One is a cute one-sided enemies-to-lover manga and has the potential for more storylines to develop later on in the series. The art style is nice but nothing special. This would be a pretty good introductory manga for middle school-age readers.

This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review thanks to NetGalley.

This one was super cute and entertaining. I think Sahoko is really relatable. I hope it does pick up a bit, but I'm excited for the next one.

Thank you Netgalley and Viz Media for the ARC! My Special One is a romantic comedy about Sahoko Wakaume, a high schooler who has sworn off love and Kouta Kirigaya the JPop star who shakes up her world and her heart. This is a sweet series sure to please romance shojo fans. The first volume gives just a taste of the romance and complications sure to come.

This was a really cute manga; Idol stories are not usually my jam, but I felt like this one had a lot of heart and the art was really nice too! I'll definitely pick up the next volumes when they are out!

This was such a cute manga! I really enjoyed reading it. I think every fangirl can relate just a little bit to the main character. I'd definitely recommend it.

I didn't expect to like this one as much as I did. I'm wary when idols are characters in manga, but this one worked for me. I didn't think it was too OTT, but it also wasn't 100% realistic. That's ok, it's a shojo, they aren't usually overly realistic, that's the fun in them sometimes.

The end was a bit of a downer for me. It seems the idol has issues, who knew?!? But I have hope that it will all work out alright in the end. I mean, idols are people too. Just SUPER hawt and young and wealthy and famous people. Lol.

I haven't been reading shojo as much as isekai, so this may have benefitted from the novelty of going back after a hiatus for me, however it has promise. I like the MC h, even if she is kind of all over the place re: her emotions, but she DID have some significant character growth by the end of the volume, which I did enjoy. I dislike when the characters are immature and stay that way for the entire volume. Not realistic, I know, but I read to escape reality. Sometimes you just need something light and fluffy, with a hint of depth and this hit that spot for me.

4, this was cuter than I expected and I will be seeking the next one out for sure, stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and VIZ Media LLC for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.

My Special One will make you squeal with all the feels. A girl determined never to have her heart moved again and a boy determined to make every one smile and feel special have a meet cute. She had a bad romantic confession that her crush made public in a humiliating way and she curses all hot guys and refuses to fall in love. He has a mysterious past and also refuses to become romantically involved with anyone. What happens when and idol meets a plain girl? Fate intervenes of course.

Fans of K-dramas and K-pop will love this new series that is sure to be a big hit. Fans of Wallflower, Skip Beat, Kimi Ni Todoke, and Fruits Basket need this series in their lives.
