A fun read for fans of Moreno-Garcia's other works, and a great piece to dive in with for the uninitiated. Silver Nitrate is a spellbinding read that left me feeling nostalgic for both the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema as well as the 1990s. Moreno-Garcia takes us on a journey through Mexico City and Nazi occultism with Montserrat and Tristan, each one an outcast with more depth than meets the eye. When Tristan's neighbor turns out to be a famous cult-movie director with a mysterious past, Tristan and Montserrat find themselves falling deeper and deeper into a black hole of magick and secrets that threaten to swallow them whole. A tale of remorse, haunting, love, and friendship, this book is a great modern Gothic. Especially recommended for fans of Mexican horror, this book will be loved by readers of both Mexican Gothic and The Hacienda.
