I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Sylvie lives in the mountains and isn't afraid of anything until a wolf becomes involved, and then the fear of the wolf starts to take over her life. Great story about facing your fears and what you can learn from doing so.

Sylvie and the Wolf is a splendid book with an important message for all ages. Sylvie is a young girl who lives "high in the mountains, where shadow meets light." This lovely phrase is characteristic of the book's writing as well as its illustrations.
Sylvie is not afraid of anything and roams the forest and land surrounding her house. She dreams of the wider world she will someday enjoy. Mercè López's drawings are brimming with the joy Sylvie experiences in her beautiful surroundings. Climbing trees, sliding along with streams, and running with various animals are a routine part of Sylvie's life. That is, until a shadow moves, she sees the glint of teeth and hears the growl of a Wolf! Sylvie keeps this encounter a secret. She is so afraid of her formerly safe world that she stops exploring, and her wondrous realm becomes a tiny space indoors. López's illustrations again perfectly portray the transient darkness of the wolf and the gloom of Sylvie's world.
The book is at heart a children's book, but the message of not allowing our anxiety or fear to take over our lives is a valid directive for any age.

Sylvie and the Wolf by Andrea Debbink is a story about dealing with anxiety and finding the courage to confront your fears.

Sylvie is a young girl who lives near the woods. She has never been afraid of anything until she encounters the Wolf. Suddenly, the world around her becomes very small as she shuts herself away from the fear of that which is largely unknown.

This is a beautifully illustrated story with an important message about experiencing anxiety. There is a takeaway here for readers of any age. Highly recommended.

A story that is both suspenseful and meaningful in how it addresses the issue of fear in a child. The stunning illustrations capture the winter wonderland and the natural world wonderfully. Absolutely loved it!

This endearing little book is a joy to read and will undoubtedly be a suspenseful and captivating read for young readers! I loved the artwork; it was suitable for the story and perfectly captured the winter atmosphere. It also showed fear in an interesting way and I liked how it was resolved in the end.

Story of a strong willed little girl who tests her boundaries to explore her world and dreams of the day of exploring the world. She goes to the edge of their village to the edge of the forest to dream of her future to one day be interrupted by the sound which she believes is the howl of a wolf. This girl believes she faces her fears but does retreat to the safety of home then her own room. Her world has become so much smaller until her aunt suggests they go walking and they end up at the edge of the forest then you will have to discover what happens next. A definite recommendation for very young readers or youngsters who like to listen to a good story. Recommending with two arms up and jazz hands showing! Sylvie and the Wolf is a must read! First of all, the illustrations are absolutely beautiful! That captured me right away! The story itself is about a brave little girl named Sylvie. She lives high in the mountains and is not afraid of anything. Or is she? This story captures the innocence of youth and the fears that are within us all. This book would lend itself to a great discussion about overcoming fears with a child of any age. I am very much looking forward to reading this book to my 3rd grade students!
