As someone who knows Adam, I am definitely a bit bias towards anything he writes. This is yet another fun, lyrical, sweet story that made me giggle. There's so many cute moments in the illustrations, it's hard not to smile when you are reading this. As a librarian, I don't reach for birthday books super often for my story times, but this might just make me put the "Birthday" and "Parties" theme into the rotation. Silly, bouncy, and with wonderful illustration and rhymes, this is sure to be a hit with your pre-k crowd.
This was a fun read for my kids, they laughed and loved all of the bright colors. They asked me to read it again as soon as the story was over.
No. This is a hard no for me.
I was expecting a book that was extra fun and celebratory because dinosaurs were invited. Nope. What we get is a party trashed by well-meaning but bull-in-a-china-shop monsters who can't help but fart and trample all over everything. It's about how a party might be fun despite the dinosaurs, instead of because of them. It was very confusing, and I imagine it would be disappointing for a kid who's always fantasized about playing with dinosaurs.
It was too real for a situation so unrealistic. Why? Just why?
The illustrations were very colorful. At least the book had that going for it.
Overall, as much as I love children's books in general, this wasn't a fun one for me and I definitely won't be reading it to any children.
A Very Dinosaur Birthday by Adam Wallace was such a cute and enjoyable story.
Both my girls age 8 and 10 loved reading this colorful and fun book.
Thank You NetGalley and Tommy Nelson Children’s for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Yay for fun dinosaur books!!! Especially when they are full of gorgeous bright fun illustrations, and they rhyme!! Lots of trouble ensues when you invite a dinosaur to your birthday party. This beautiful book was sent to me by Netgalley and Adam Wallace in exchange for an honest review.
Illustrations for A Very Dinosaur Birthday were very colorful. The story was cute and had a great rhyming style. Some of the story could have flowed better, but overall a cute story that kids would love.
Dinosaurs are big, and strong, and scary, and farty,
So do you really want them coming to your birthday party
This adorable picture book describes what happens when dinosaurs join in on the fun at a birthday celebration. Adam Wallace has created a delightful story about the mayhem that happens when very big, strong, clumsy dinosaurs participate in the party activities. The story is written in clever, catchy rhymes which will tickle your funny bones. Many of the adjectives are written in bold colorful font to add extra emphasis. The bright exciting illustrations show a variety of dinosaurs accidentally wreaking havoc. This book will delight children ages four to ten and anyone with a love of dinosaurs. It is ideal for bedtime giggles or for story time too. I would recommend this book as a gift to any young child.
This book can also be used in the classroom. The publishers have created an educator guide as a companion book. It states that the book is appropriate for Read Aloud for Kindergarten and First Grade and Independent Reading for second grade and above. It provides four activities that help teach comprehension, critical thinking and writing.

This was a pretty good book. Right away, we see a birthday party take a turn when the dinos who were invited start showing up. They just want to have a good time, but they end up creating a bunch of messes. Yet as this story comes to a close, the kids realize how much more fun this party was with all of these dinos in attendance. Most kids will enjoy reading this book.
Very cute book, but the beginning felt like a bit much on the gross side. That might be great for some kids though, especially boys!
A very dinosaur birthday
From the cover I thought this story would be a complete win. The plot became disjointed part way through when the boy goes to his room to take a break from the dinosaurs & their antics, yet, the next page he’s outside with them again. Plus the fart joke at the beginning was honestly a quick toss-in that didn’t work with the rest of the story. Perhaps a re-edit would help?
What a cute and fun book for children! With my birthday coming up soon, I would definitely want a very dinosaur birthday, haha. I will be recommending this book for purchase for circulation at my library.
A Very Dinosaur Birthday was a fast , fun ride that shows just how much fun dinosaurs would be at a birthday party.. I love the use of the farty to rhyme with party .
The illustrations were perfect for the story - colorful and a great way to introduce children to the different types of dinosaurs.
A laugh out loud book .
This was a very colorful book and the illustrations were good. The story was cute but I feel like it needed more of a positive vibe. Like when the Dino’s made the mess they should help clean it up or something like that.
This book was chaotic from the get go! If you want to show your children how not to behave this book will work. It was a bit all over the place but cute illustrations!
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review!
The eye-catching illustrations of this book are definitely what will keep your child reaching for this book over and over. This fun tale of what can happen if you invite dinosaurs to your birthday party is full of humor.
This book starts with all the reasons you would not want a Dino at your birthday party. It ends with all the reasons you would want to Dino at your birthday party. The start is a bit different, but it really works. Add to that the amazing illustrations that are bright and colorful and kids will be wanting to read this one time and time again.
I wanted to like this book, but I didn’t. The premise is cute, but I couldn’t get past the talk of farting at the beginning of the book.
A Very Dinosaur Birthday by Adam Wallace is a fun dinosaur picture book. In a similar style to Wallace's "How to Catch" series, the pages all have few lines of rhyming text. All the illustrations are brightly colored which will appeal to young children. This would pair well with a nonfiction dinosaur book for some great fiction/nonfiction discussions. This is a must purchase for anyone with students who enjoy the "How to Catch" series. It will definitely be on my "to-purchase" list in the fall!
A Very Dinosaur Birthday is the perfect book to read with all those dinosaur-loving readers. This book is about what would happen if Dinosaurs came to your birthday party. They make a mess and do ruin things but they also can be a lot of fun. The illustrations are colorful and fun to match the tone of a child's birthday party. I did start to feel bad about all the chaos that the dinosaur's caused, so I was happy the book turned around by the end. This would make a great birthday gift to the next dinosaur birthday you go to.
I read this book on NetGalley and was happy to give my feedback on this new title.
I read this story with my 7 year old and almost two year old and this whole dinosaur loving family enjoyed this story!
The story was very cute as it went through the crazy imaginings of inviting dinosaurs to a birthday party. The pictures were incredibly colorful and the fonts were fun!
I appreciated that the story named various types of dinosaurs, rather than just saying Dino as some stories do. It does use the word fart and bum, but that is a nonissue for us.
Highly recommended for pint sized Dino lovers!
