Really spooky fun locked room mystery!
Meghan was murdered before her senior year high school homecoming dance. Her emotional boyfriend Cal has been in jail ever since. It's ten years later and Cal is being released. Meghan's family has received special invites to a cabin in her remembrance.

It's not long before a storm creates havoc, and mysterious shadows are seen outside. Who killed Meghan and are they going to kill again?

This was excellent! Very unusual plot and well written. I wasn't grabbed by the first chapter but the story took off as soon as the family settled into the cabin. If you love locked room- style mysteries this is a book for you! #OneNight #GeorginaCross

Suspenseful thrillers are my fave. This one rates high on my list for fitting those genres. Good burn and characters and decent writing. I was invested in the outcome. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Four stars.

Once again I find myself on the other end of the spectrum of reviewers. You start off nice and strong with Meghan's POV ten years prior. You hear how she was in the woods and her POV of her death. Then you jump into Maureen's POV and we are immediately introduced to the whole invitation charade. Maureen (the mom), her two daughters (Sam and Alice), Paul (the dad) and Uncle Geoff (Paul's best friend) all get these blood red invitations to go to a house and find out what happened to Meg (the third now dead sister). You then go through chapters on who is going and there is a switch of POV between Sam, Maureen, and Rebecca (the stepmom). THEN you go through some more chapters about vicious weather at the house that hits all while stumbling upon Cal the ex-boyfriend who was convicted of Meg's murder. Some people are certain he is guilty, others are certain he isn't. Tick tock goes the clock on if they want to just get rid of him already or if there is some sneaky truth within this family that hasn't been said.

I just can't really come to terms on how I feel about this book. Initially when I finished it I thought it took a turn for trying too hard on the spins and just felt all out of touch. After some contemplation I do have to give it credit for keeping my attention and doing the typical can't take your eyes off a wreck type of thing. Overall it was entertaining enough but there were some points that just felt like too much filler and unnecessary.

Thank you Random House Ballantine and netgalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Gripping! Tense! Sinister and suspenseful! This thriller kept me guessing, questioning and I will admit, feeling rather creepy.

On the tenth anniversary of 17 year old Meghan’s death, her family and high school boyfriend who was convicted for her death and just released from prison, are anonymously invited to attend a dinner party in a beautiful home high atop the Oregon cliffs, overlooking the rocky Pacific coastline. The invitation promises the killer will be revealed by the end of the evening. With a menacing thunderstorm and strange appearances of the guests personal objects, the stage is set for a frightening and anxiety inducing night.

This fast paced thriller will have you playing sleuth over and over throughout the story. Just when you think you know who did it, you’ll be second guessing yourself and trying to figure it out again. By the time this night is finished, you’ll be relieved to see the break of day. Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the opportunity to read this enjoyable, twisty thriller!

This was a fast and enjoyable read. At times the plot was somewhat predictable, but the ending packs a punch. Recommended for mystery/suspense readers who enjoy domestic fiction about dysfunctional families. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you #NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for the eARC One Night. This book is absolutely fantastic. I have never read anything by this author before but I plan on reading more. There was suspense from the first chapter until the last. The twist at the end made me audibly gasp. I highly suggest this book to anyone who enjoys a whodunit suspenseful book.

This was quite a tense and creepy thriller. It's been ten years since the oldest Chisholm daughter, Meghan, was found drowned, and her high school boyfriend, Cal, was found guilty of her murder. Cal has recently been released from prison, and now Meghan's family has been anonymously summoned to a rented beach house with the promise that they will finally learn what actually happened that night. Throw in a violent storm, a creepy staged dinner party, a whole lot of secrets, and some solid twists, and you have a pretty entertaining thriller. The whole book was pretty well-paced and full of red herrings and moments of suspense. Even if you have some idea of where it's all headed, there are still enough twists that make for a satisfying ending.

Thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and Netgalley for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I'm excited to check out this author's back catalog.

Meghan was murdered 10 years ago. One creepy invitation arrives inviting everyone to come and find out what really happened to Meghan. No one is sure who wrote the invitation. They are all summoned to a house and a storm hits keeping them all in the house.

This is a crazy who done it. All the players are holding secrets.

The beginning was a little slow and took me awhile to get into the book but the ending really synched it! Well done with a twist at the end. Yikes, one messed up family.

Such a fun, twisty thriller! My first from this author but won't be my last. Loved the premise and couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see how it would play out.

The twists and turns in this novel kept me guessing and then guessing again. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the talented author. A teenage girl is murdered, and a young man goes to prison. He claims he is innocent. Ten years later, her family is invited to gather for a weekend to learn the truth. Red herrings keep the truth buried. Secrets abound. Personalities emerge and finally, the truth. I was not ready for all the secrets to come out. Be prepared to read to the end. This is a page turner.

"Don't tell anyone you're coming. In one night, you'll find out what happened to Meg."

That's what the invitation said that Maureen, Meg's mother; Alice and Sam, Meg's sisters; Paul, Maureen's ex-husband, and Rebecca, his new wife; and Uncle Geoff all received.

Was the invitation from Cal - the teenage boyfriend of Meg who was convicted of her murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison and recently released?

They all gather at the mysterious cabin to find out who is responsible in the middle of a treacherous storm.

Alternating between time periods in the past and present, secrets and lies are revealed, as is what really happened to Meg so long ago.

I read this book in one sitting - it was that good! Lots of twists and turns and an unexpected ending. It was my first book by this author but it will definitely not be my last!

This was a really fast read that kept my interest pretty well. A family arrives at beach house to get some answers to a 10 year old murder and chaos ensues. I found it fairly predictable, but enjoyable!

A received an advanced copy from Netgalley, but all opinions are my own.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book. This was a weird one and I loved it! The whole story is tightly wound and ratchets up the suspense. The entire book happens in one night and was seriously intense. The ending was very unexpected

Must be so difficult to write a book with a remote setting with only a handful of characters and set in one night - Georgina Cross takes this challenge and keeps the tension and pacing tight. A family is invited to this location to find out new information on the death of their eldest teenage daughter after the killer was released from prison. You know this is not going to end well and while you have a clue to the direction, the ending was s great revelation and entirely unexpected.

A family is brought together, ostensibly by the man that murdered one of them. They gather, wanting to hear the whole story, But before they can, the person they think is the murderer is nearly killed in a car crash on the way. And then, it turns out that maybe he wasn’t the one to invite them after all. This family drama was twisty and suspenseful, but I had a hard time keeping the characters straight and sticking with the story. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

If I’m at 30% in a book and I have NO IDEA what is going on, I just have to move on. Unfortunately, One Night is that book that’s just not going anywhere for me. I so wanted to like this but it’s just not for me.

When Meghan was murdered, her boyfriend Cal was found guilty and spent ten years in jail. After 10 years family members each received a letter telling them to meet at a particular resort and they will learn everything that happened the night of the murder. A story of revenge and betrayal.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was intense. I thought I had figured out the ending early in the book, but the final whammy was one I never saw coming. The entire story takes place in one night. The story has a flare of dinner theater that works beautifully. All of the characters were equal parts relatable and unlikable, but the mix kept me intrigued throughout the novel. It is this duality that keeps the ending secret. Definitely recommend.
