We all have a worst day of our life, but it doesn't often propel us into a cross-country job change to escape the pain we feel, yet that's exactly what Dr. Emilia McRoy, our intrepid heroine chooses to do in order to find a new start. A cozy little mystery romance plunges us immediately into a whodunnit. The action is steady, the characters are plentiful, though we are made to feel like we're part of a pretty close-knit community pretty soon in her time in Scotland's picturesque village. The benefits of the town include a handsome, yet annoying laird/constable/billionaire with multiple mansion, who holds the health and wealth of the town on his well-toned shoulders.

If you're looking for a simple, yet fun little jaunt through the Scottish countryside and dip your toes into a bit of mystery, then this might be for you. Expect your brave heroine to brush off danger a little too haphazardly though to the point of ridiculousness. And expect your new bff's to hold tight to their side-character romanticism. And be prepared for lots of equally ridiculously attractive men to be paraded through the entire tale.

I enjoyed the narration by Kimberly M. Wetherell, who switched pretty naturally between the Scottish brogues, British lilts, and curt American English accents. She helped the story flow continuously and provided that bit of suspense around the clues we discover throughout. If rated on narration alone, I'd probably give this a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.
