I’ve tried multiple recipes in this cookbook and have loved them all! It says something when a new recipe replaces a time honored, tried and true family favorite!
REVIEW OF @kneaders Bakery & Cafe: A Collection of Our Recipes and Memories by Colleen Worthington
BRIEF REVIEW
Anyone who's been watching my Instagram stories already knows my newfound obsession with this cookbook. I have read all the stories within and made a dozen of the recipes from 7 of the 12 sections. Eleven of those 12 recipes were fantastic, and I'm certain the one that missed was my own fault. I still have a long list of recipes I'd like to try!
The stories were touching, and the photography was gorgeous. This cookbook is laid out very neatly and clearly. There are helpful headings on the recipes, along with tips and vignettes.
In the cakes section, there are some recommendations for improving boxed cake recipes, which is pretty cool.
Based on my experience, most of the ingredients are easy to find or easy to substitute.

I am so grateful to Kneaders, @netgalley, and @shadowmountainpub for the eARC. These opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Kneaders is a popular bakery across the country known for their breads and selections that feel homemade from grandma's kitchen. Colleen Worthington and her husband, Gary, have spent the past 25 years creating, testing and perfecting their recipes and now she is sharing some of the restaurant's most popular dishes for the home baker. She shares the family history as to how Kneaders came to be and includes tons of family stories through out. The recipes offer a wide range from breakfast treats, season salads, holiday pies and of course homemade bread. Each recipe includes instructions and a beautiful photo along with a story. It feels very homey and at times dips too far into the personal family memories for my taste but over all it is a very nice and will offer some yummy additions to the home bakers table.
I don't know if it is just the ARC copy but the ingredient list for each recipe was choppy and hard to follow.
I found this cookbook to be fascinating. It has so many fun stories about interesting people. It also has great recipes! I am looking forward to trying them all out.
Beautiful, well-done cookbook, that is so much more than that, as woven into the sections of the book and in the introduction are the history of how Kneaders came to be and the stories of not just the family behind the restaurant but others who were/are influential to the company, past and present. I loved each recipe. My only complaint is that there are a few recipes without pictures. While some are variations and I understand they chose not to showcase those, some are just simply skipped altogether. Why not include full-color photos of each recipe? The photos that are included are very detailed and very well-staged, so I am not sure why there are some missing. Some are family recipes that aren't featured in the stores. Some are past recipes that they don't serve anymore. They don't give away any trade secrets of current products served but they do include some popular recipes for a few current products served in the stores (like their amazingly delicious eclairs!!!!). The recipes sometimes feature unique, possibly hard-to-find ingredients and quite a few are very detailed with lots of steps and note for novice bakers/cooks. An extremely beautiful cookbook that is full of wonderful resources for intermediate to advanced cooks looking to add unique desserts and dishes to their repertoire! I can't wait to try out so many of the recipes to enjoy!! (I received a digital review copy of this book and this is one that I definitely want to purchase a hard copy of to add to my cookbook library!!)
Thank you for allowing me to read this new cookbook, NetGalley. I am not familiar with Kneaders as such so it was interesting to read the history and background. The recipes look easy to follow and most of the ingredients are ones you would have on your shelf.
This one was a bit of a miss for me.
As other reviews have commented, some of the ingredients are not easy to find.
I guess I was expecting more of a baking book and this was a bit more of a family memoir with recipes included. I am grateful for the opportunity to check it out.
There are some great recipes here and some interesting stories and facts about the authors life. The recipes are divided into different meal times and even reading them makes you feel hungry! I liked the ability to be able to click on the various sub divided links, i.e in breakfast I could click on the scrumptious cinnamon rolls, however after further testing I found it took me to the back of the book and instead of being directed to the recipe I was shoved to the end. This happened for every recipe I clicked on and on the overall contents page, there were no links, so I had to manually scroll through the whole book to get to the recipe I wanted. This would not be arduous with the real book in your hands, but with an ebook and an reader, baking and pressing becomes a really pain! But I enjoyed the recipes and enjoyed baking. There are pictures which accompany the recipes and although my ereader lacks colour, it was still great to see the pictures and results of the recipes. Overall a good cook book!
Kneaders Bakery & Cafe by Colleen Worthington
What an extensive cookbook! I think this may quickly become a favorite. The photography is beautiful, and the recipes and ingredient lists are clearly written. I'm so excited about the categories: Breakfast, salads, sandwiches, soups, drinks, breads, dips and spreads, stuffings and croutons, cakes and trifles, cookies and bards, pies and puddings, and sweets and treats. I appreciate the standard index and recipe index included in the back.
As I recently took a job working from home full-time, I need to spice up my breakfasts and lunchtimes without making full-on entrees.
Thank you to #Netgalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for a free copy of #KneadersBakeryCafe by Colleen Worthington. All opinions are my own.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is an interesting recipe book.
I wish there was more pictures of the food, but what is included is nice. There are lots of recipes in this book beyond bread, there's also sides, pastas, salads, and more. There's also stories throughout the book about people involved with the bakery, though some are more inspiring than others. Overall not a bad find.
As a long-time lover of kneaders restaurants, I am obsessed with this cookbook. There are so many wonderful, memorable, delicious, and easy meals and treats to make. There is a large range of recipes included, which I love. The book is well organized with a cloth of beautiful pictures. There are family stories shared throughout, which is a fun insight into the founders and workers. A must-have book for chefs everywhere!
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. Beautiful photos and easy to follow recipes. If you are a baker or even a new baker this book would be perfect for a staple in your recipe books.
As reading the digital copy, I cannot wait to get my hands on the physical copy of this cookbook. Each section I noted more and more recipes I can’t wait to dive into. What I loved about this cookbook is that the ingredients are obtainable and the directions are easy to follow, but if I can achieve the level of tastiness the photographs are, this recipe book will be a total “chefs kiss” of cookbooks!
I really enjoyed Kneader’s Cookbook. I found this to be a good balance between beginner recipes like muffin tops and salads and more intermediate recipes like some of the bread items. I was also pleased that it wasn’t just a rehashing of the same old recipes over and over again.
I also really appreciated the personal stories about people in between each section. It’s nice knowing where the inspiration for various recipes came from.
The photography was also lovely and vibrant, so this book is fun to just page through.
*Thank you to Netgalley, Kneaders, & the publisher for the E-copy of this book. This in no way affects the objectivity of my review.
This book is a real delight. The photos, story and most important the recipes. will definitely be an add to your cooking library. The recipes include everything from Jams, breads, desserts and cookies. The easy to follow ingredients and the wonderful stories included with some of the recipes are wonderful. The family shows history, hard work and generational appreciation. The photo's are vibrant and fun adding to the book. Definitely recommend this for your personal library or a gift.
Thank you to the authors, publisher and Netgalley.
I love to eat at Kneaders so I was excited to get to try out this new cookbook. I really like the way the book is set up with stories about the family that started Kneaders Bakery and Cafe. I also enjoyed the stories that talked about how some of the recipes came about. Most of all I loved the recipes. I tried a few and they turned out great!
Such a fun cookbook with so many yummy recipes to try! I love the background and stories shared that go with the recipes. Definitely recommend!
I’ve enjoyed going to the Kneaders Bakery and Café near me. Their food is wonderful and their bakery goods are always yummy. When I saw this book offered on NetGalley with the story of their bakery along with many recipes, I couldn’t resist getting it. I’m quite certain I’ll be purchasing a print copy when it releases. I’ve read through a lot of the story behind the Kneaders stores and the people who’ve been instrumental in the success of their chain. It was very interesting to get that background. I haven’t tried the recipes yet, but I have some I’m going to be trying very soon. Some of them I’ve enjoyed in the store and some are family recipes that I haven’t seen offered there. The Raspberry Bread Pudding is one of my favorites, and I plan on making some of the bread and soups, too. I’m sure I’ll be using this frequently.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Shadow Mountain Publishers through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This was a fun cookbook. I have enjoyed eating at Kneaders in the past so it was neat to be able to make some of their recipes and also to learn more about the family who started Kneaders. I liked how easy it was to use and that you felt like you were part of the family as you read it. I will definitely use these recipes later.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
While I’m not familiar with the Kneaders brand, The premise of the book, along with recipes caught my attention. I am noticing, if not a bread lover and baking is my jam!
What sets this book apart is the memories and stories that are shared along with the recipes. It brings the whole book to life as you read it. I can’t wait to try some of these recipes moving forward as there is so much more than just bread in here. I really love how the author is sharing her family and recipes with us, making it personal and endearing..
