So fun! I loved these stories and the new ones. Sarah M Eden knows how to tell a great story and it was fun to remember the plot lines of the books penny serials are in while reading them.

A wonderful collection of Sarah Eden’s Penny dreadfuls! She some how made each one sound like a new author. Definitely a worthwhile read!

Fans of Sarah M. Eden rejoice, The Dread Penny Society anthology brings together all her penny dreadful short stories into one place.

This cloth-covered hardcover collector’s anthology compiles all the penny dreadful short stories from Sarah M. Eden’s five-book Victorian romance series (The Lady and the Highwayman, The Gentleman and the Thief, The Merchant and the Rogue, The Bachelor and the Bride, and The Queen and the Knave). This edition also includes three new, never-before-released stories.

Emulating the Victorian style original penny dreadfuls, Eden’s stories follow a similar format — somewhat sensational stories published in weekly parts ranging from 8 to 16 pages that cost 1 penny each.

Eden has interwoven these tales throughout her five books, tailoring them to her storyline and adding depth to the overall narrative.

In The Dread Penny Society, readers get to read these serials all at once, perhaps lessening the anticipation for each new section but offering instant gratification at the same time. What’s especially nice here is that the stories are “penned” by different authors (from her series) with unique voices and subject matter. It’s a different kind of read from Eden and it’s lots of fun.

It was interesting for me to learn about the Penny Dreadfuls from the Victorian era and how popular they were, and it was especially fun to read these stories without interruption. Most of these short stories were a little dark for me, with the exception of Higglebottom’s School for the Dead which made me laugh, with lots of suspense and often horror abounding in superstitions regarding vampires, monsters, and fairy folk and always ending with good overcoming evil. I’m a romance lover at heart, so the ones with a bit of that in them were my favorites. Sarah Eden’s regency romance novels are what got me interested in her as an author, but these stories are totally different from her usual. The fact that she is able to pull off sounding like several different authors and make it believable showcases what a talented author she is!

Reading these stories in between the pages of the Dread Penny series was an absolutely delight.

Having them spread though out the plot made me feel like I was getting them in serial form just like they were intended.

However reading each story all at once heightened the mystery and the tension of each story. I found I loved having them this way as well.

Each story is unique and fresh, each voice distinct to the character writing them. They have humor and mystery and even a little romance thrown in.

And the cover is so pretty!

This is a must have for any Sarah Eden, Victorian, mystery or penny dreadful lover.

Is this a beautiful cover or what? The Dread Penny Society book is a compilation of the short stories told in the five Dread Penny books. It is so fun having the stories all together in one place. The drawings throughout add so much. It's a delightful addition to the series.

✨Book Review✨

“Free of both the fear "Mr. Northrup" had inflicted and the threat of the faeries, Josephine and Silas found in one m another .. a home.”

The Complete Penny Dreadful Collection released last week and I couldn’t be more excited to own it! The book is absolutely stunning. I love a beautiful cover and this one is no exception!

This book is so fun! It has all the penny dreadfuls from the series in one place and also a few bonus stories. Sarah Eden does a remarkable job of writing these stories from the perspective of her characters. It feels like reading stories by completely different authors. The way she weaves these tales into her books is amazing!

What a fun collection for fans of the Dread Penny Society series, fans of penny dreadfuls, or even just fans of short story collections! Most of the stories included in this book can be found in the main books in the Dread Penny Society series, but there are also a few new ones.

The Dread Penny Society Victorian Romance series has been such a fun series to read. Not only do you have nice romances but also a lot of angst and suspense. I have loved the Dread Penny stories that have been in all of the books. They were interspersed between the chapters of the book. I really loved all of them in this brand-new collection. You can read the whole Penny Dreadful story without any interruptions. Even though I had read most of them, it felt very different to read the whole story consecutively.

What's really exciting about this collection is that there are three new Penny Dreadful stories included. I loved these stories too. It amazes me how different each of the stories are. Each story is "written" by different Dread Penny Society members in the novel. It's hard to remember that truly they are all written by Sarah M. Eden because they all have such a different voice. The stories range from mysteries, epic adventures, fairytale-esque, and ghost stories. There is something for every reader.

If you've been a fan of and have all of the five novels in this series, you must purchase this wonderful collection of The Penny Dreadful stories.

This is such a fun collection of short stories. If you’re familiar with the author’s Dread Penny Society series then you will be familiar with these dread penny short stories. If not, you’re in for some fun!
These can be read without any previous knowledge of the author’s other series and are enjoyable short stories about adventures, and good prevailing over bad.

These stories are wholesome and contain no language or sexual content.

I admit that when reading the Dread Penny Society series, I usually skipped over the "Penny Dreadful" portions of the book because it took away from the flow of the original stories. There were several stories that I did skim through while reading that drew my interest, I just never went back to read only the serial potions.

Needless to say, I was pleased to see that this collection was coming out. It was nice being able to read the story chapters together as short stories, and found a few that I wish were actual ongoing stories ☺️.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

LOVE THIS SERIES! I read the first one many years ago when it first came out, and being able to read the whole collection at once was such a treat and fun experience! I loved these books and the writing style was easy to follow and very witty. I love that this is a clean romance and the characters really came to life with Eden's excellent descriptions. I do think that this would make a fabulous tv show, Bridgeton-esque (but clean), is what i'm envisioning. Can't recommend these stories enough if you love romance, historical fiction, and strong women!

Thanks to Netgalley and to Shadow Mountain Publishing for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

The Dread Penny Society series of books is my favorite series from Sarah Eden and I have read pretty much every book of hers, so this book is the icing on the cake for this beloved series. Having each of the dread pennies in one book is awesome. I loved rereading them and the three new stories were perfect. I loved revisiting stories I enjoyed so much (Dead Zoo to name one) and Pru and Posie are still my favorites. Ever.
Thank you to the publisher for the Netgalley approval. I bought a copy to treasure and admire on my personal bookshelf.

This collection has all of the penny dreadful stories that were included in the Dread Penny Society series by Sarah Eden.
1. I love the hardcover version of this book. It looks so old fashioned and beautiful.
2. In addition to the previously published short stories, there are three never before released stories added to this collection.
3. I loved reading the stories in quick succession. In the novels, each story was broken up between chapters. In this collection, I was able to read the whole short story at once, and it was delightful. Each one took me about 30 minutes to read. A perfect bite sized reading snack.
4. I’m impressed all over again at Sarah Eden’s skill, not only to write in another era and type of literature, but to do it from so many different “perspectives.” The stories are written by different characters in the series and each has their own unique voice. Bravo! My favorites are the ones by Mr. King, and luckily they come up the most (6 in this collection are by “Mr. King”).
5. Last, even though these were published as part of a series, this book can be read independently. Each short story is independent from the rest.
If you’re looking to step back in time and experience mystery, the paranormal, or romance from another era, this book is for you.

I love having all the Penny dreadfuls together! It was always fun to read them throughout the Dread Penny Society books.
I love the distinct voice each penny dreadful has. They stay true to their “author” and their character quirks. These stories are the mark of a skilled writer. They are fun, witty, imaginative, and a delight!

Eerie, romantic, captivating, magical, suspenseful! At long last, the fantastic 10 Penny Dreadfuls previously interspersed throughout the Dread Penny Society series are all together in one compilation along with three exciting new ones. Whether you’re new to the series or a diehard fan, this collector’s edition is a must have & available in a beautiful cloth-bound hardback that’s definitely worth adding to your bookshelf.

The charmingly gothic short stories are truly amazing. Though they’re all written by the talented Sarah M. Eden, they each have the distinct voice of the Dread Penny Society member who wrote them & a different feel. Some are more romantic, others are more humorous, & then there are the more spooky ones, but not too spooky. Each has a mysterious/paranormal aspect characteristic of the Penny Dreadfuls from the Victorian era. At lease one story from each of the books parallels the main story it was included in. My favorites are those written by Mr. King, especially The Lady and the Highwayman, The Gentleman and the Thief, & The Queen and the Knave.

The three new Dreadfuls are a great addition to the anthology. The Governess and the Fugitive by Mr. King is the spooky story of a governess who has a unique pupil. She & her new found love are forced to battle wicked faeries from the faerie realm. On a Sea of Glass is the first book we’ve had from Stone! It’s an eerie sea faring tale where sailors battle an unusual sea monster. The last story is Terminus by Brogan. It’s one bizarre train ride with a mysterious conductor where nothing is as it seems.

I loved being able to read the stories all at once instead of broken up into installments as they were in the Dread Penny Society books. Not to say I didn’t enjoy the creative way they were included in the books, but the stories flow so much better when you get to read the full story at once. These deliciously gothic tales are perfect amount of fun spooky without being too graphic or gory.

Highly recommend to gothic romance fans! It’s a must have for those who love the Dread Penny Society series. I received an advanced complimentary ebook from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily given.
