Goodbye Hello is a wonderful look at how death affects the living. Author Adam Berry is a professional ghost hunter, having been on Ghost Hunters Academy, Ghost Hunters, and now Kindred Spirits. I have personally followed Berry from his time on GHA and I was very excited to get my hands on his book.

Overall, this book is not what I expected which is not a bad thing. As a "celebrity" ghost hunter, I anticipated these pages to be filled with Berry's life experiences with spirit without touching on harder topics. While there are elements of personal storytelling (both on and off the job), I was pleasantly surprised to find the book focuses more on a comprehensive look at multiple aspects of dying, death, and spiritual matters. The obvious passion and love that Berry has for the metaphysical/spiritual space is clear in reading the respect he has for family members, living and past. With multiple interviews with other paranormal experts, Goodbye Hello is a great resource for families who are dealing with loss and wondering what the "great beyond" means for them.

I'm always floored when a book makes it so I can not even begin to tell how much I loved it. This is one of those books.
I'm just going to ramble so if that's not your jam just skip it. It will get personal but oh well...it's what I feel like doing for this book. If you troll me about it I will block your ass or cuss you out. Could go either way.

A couple of years ago I lost two people. The first one I was close to my whole adult life and he died from cancer. I was there right before he died and all during the process. Something about his death felt natural and surrounded by love. He just wanted to know his wife was going to be okay. Once that was made clear the air around him and the feeling was totally different. He passed a few minutes later. Even then we felt him around us.

The second one changed my life forever. It was someone who was and is a part of my heart. I was not there when he was killed. I got there as he was loaded onto the ambulance and it felt totally different. I just somehow knew that he and his spirit was already gone and that he had been dead for longer than was being said. I felt like my soul was being torn from my body too.
He was killed and left way too young. There was no peace in his death.
His death has changed me. I no longer have the spice for life that I used to have. I know that's not how he would want me to be.

This book though....I finished it a couple of days ago and immediately started reading parts of it again. I have a hardcover of it coming in the mail. So ARC's do sell books people.

As to this book. This book woke me up to a few things. I do focus on the moment of his death. The author states that in his paranormal research that he has found that most spirits do not want to be remembered for their death. They want to be remembered for the life they lived. That hit me hard.

Several moments in this book hit hard for me and I do think the longer I think about these writings the more peace that I can find in his death. I'll be honest and admit I'll never be okay but anything is better than where I'm at now.
The writing in this book feels like the author is sitting with you personally and telling you stories he has heard of and experienced. If you do not believe in the paranormal that's fine. I just happen to believe that there is more to our spirits than we know anything about.

Adam Berry. Thank you. Thank you for putting this work together for the ones of us that are grieving. Thank you for being so caring in doing so.

4.5/5 Stars

I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Adam Berry truly gives us an unique perspective on how the paranormal can be used as a tool for processing grief, offering comfort and even advice or direction to those who seek. By humanizing the spirits that we encounter, not only are we able to get more reliable answers, we are able to help that spirit. As Adam says, they are also human, just in a different form. They have needs and wants but do not always have the means to act on them. Many times these encounters can be frightening, but most of the time it is harmless though the spirit could not get anyone's attention. We do not know enough about the afterlife to know how much energy or effort spirits have to put in to get our attention, and if we put ourselves in their shoes, it would be incredibly frustrating. I love how Adam is able to weave the bible into this book and put it into perspective with our beliefs on the paranormal. If gives a whole new view to scriptures that many of us grew up learning. This entire book was so compelling and thought provoking. I even learned ways that I have used this to cope with my grief and didn't even realize it. Absolute must read!

I have been dealing with the loss of my Grandfather for almost three years now, it has been one of the hardest seasons of my life. I have had many signs in the form of Eagles, that I just *KNOW* is him. One of the most distinct experiences I have had and continue to have from time to time, is one night not long after he passed. I have terrible night terrors and I woke in absolute panic. When I looked up he was standing in the doorway, as his younger self (which I have pictures of on my wall) smiling at me and telling me I was safe and everything was okay. He ensured I felt protected and I was able to relax and sleep knowing that he would never let anything happen to me. I have since found out via a medium friend that he has become one of my Guardian angels and is often checking on me. I always feel his presence when times are hard or I just need that bit of encouragement.

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher, it was an honor to read this book.

I have been watching this author on his shows for many many years. Whenever one of them writes a book it is a definite pickup for me. I was thrilled to have been allowed this one early.
To be honest, I am not exactly sure what I feel about death, the afterlife. But after reading Adam’s book, I have a better handle on it. What he wrote and has observed makes total sense to me.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley.

A absolutely adore Adam Berry and this book felt like he was next to me having a discussion. I connected in so many ways to his discussions about how western Christianity has influenced ghost hunting so much and maybe not allowed us to tap into the energy all around us. I want more Adam! ;)

My brother and maternal grandfather both have had paranormal experiences in the past. About 15 years ago I had some unexplained phenomena involving light and sound toys going off by themselves. My brother is a big fan of the tv shows "Ghost Hunters" and spinoff "Kindred Spirits" and influenced me to watch them too. Adam Berry who authored this, his first book, stars in "Kindred Spirits" along with fellow paranormal researcher Amy Bruni. They met while working on "Ghost Hunters".

This was an easy, quick read and started off with a bang with Adam's first mind-blowing paranormal experience at Gettysburg. He takes you through the circumstances that led him to apply to a contest on "Ghost Hunters" which parlayed into creating his own show "Kindred Spirits". He describes many of their best paranormal cases from these shows, supplying extra details that didn't make it into the televised version. Adam and his paranormal partner Amy not only document evidence of a haunting, but also try to help these entities find peace.

There are also fascinating accounts from people who died for a few minutes, sharing their experiences and how this impacted their current lives. Experts in the field such as celebrity clairvoyant medium Tyler Henry also grace this book. This was quite a compelling read.

Thank you to the publisher Regalo Press for providing an advance reader copy via NetGalley.

Super interesting and fun to read. Also full of theory and experiences that Adam has had. I love this book and read it quickly . I enjoyed his discussion about what they are and what they want to be refreshing when discussing ghosts. I watch Adams shows whenever I get a chance and they are on the cable. If you are into the paranormal or what happens to us after we die( which by the way we all do) then you wont be dissapointed.

Full disclosure: Adam Berry is my all time favorite paranormal investigator, so this opinion might be a bit biased.... thta said, I found this book to be incredibly well- written, fascinating and highly comforting, like a warm blanket on a cold winter night. As a bookseller, I fully intend to make this my go-to recommendation for those looking for answers or just some comfort when it comes to things death-related and/or paranormal. A very easy 5 out of 5 stars.
