I have enjoyed this entire series and do recommend reading them in order to get the full story. I felt stronger about the first two but this wasn't a terrible way to wrap up the series.

This is the third (and final?) book in the Supernatural Singles paranormal romance series and it features Olive, the third witch sister and Baxter, a guardian angel. I really love that these books are set in modern-day New York City, in a world that acknowledges “supers” and we regular people are called “norms.” These are fun, mostly light reads, romance with large elements of fantasy/scifi. If you’re a seasonal reader, this whole series is great for “spooky season”/autumn.

Olive teaches at New York University, where she is chair of the supernatural studies department (or something to that effect). She’s curvy and wears glasses, and is extremely appealing to a guardian angel named Baxter, a guy in their friend group. He has offered Olive a room in his apartment, as a roommate, after her previous living arrangement didn’t work out. Bax is an interesting character - he’s a guardian angel and can pop out wings from his back, but he hates flying and is a little afraid of heights! He also is an artist, but just as a hobby, and designs intricate tattoos. He also rides around on a motorcycle and has piercings in “interesting” places. Olive asks her class to do things out of their comfort zone, and then she decides she should do the same. This leads to the guardian angel authorities deciding that Olive needs a guardian angel and assigns Bax. Problem: there’s a rule against falling in love with your guardian assignment.

Note: It’s a bit steamy, so be forewarned if that doesn’t appeal to you. There’s also a lot of talk about sex, not just the actual scenes. I rounded my star rating down a notch because of what I felt was the characters’ excessive focus on sex.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Griffin and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

The "Supernatural Singles" series has been a favourite of mine since "Not the Witch You Wed", so I was really excited to finally get Olive and Bax’s story in "Not Your Crush’s Cauldron". All the books can be read as standalones, but I definitely recommend reading them in order for full enjoyment.

I loved getting to learn more about Bax in this book and I really liked his connection with Olive, but there was something about how the Dare I Docket was worked into the story that just didn’t draw me in as much as the other two books. I think it was really great for Olive to step outside her comfort zone and explore some new experiences and hobbies, but I also would have liked to see a little more of a balance with her regular life and how Bax fits into that. For a character whose entire personality up until this point has been about reading books, being a professor, and doing magic, we see surprisingly little of that in her own book.

I did really enjoy Bax becoming Olive’s Guardian Angel as the set up for the romance and how that played into the story, but I do wish there had been some kind of actual event that could have explained why she needed one – even if it was something she was only mildly involved in or it was something specific that could’ve been worse. I know it was supposed to be her Dare I Docket, but let’s be honest she was never in danger from any of those activities, so it felt like it came out of nowhere when she was suddenly no longer at risk.

Overall, I really enjoyed the characters, romance, and little bit of spice, so I would definitely still recommend it and I’m looking forward to a potential book about Harper in the future!!

I love this series and plan to continue to read from this author! I really loved this book and how it concluded the sister series. Although I would love a book on Harper of course!

I really enjoyed this one! I love the witchy/supernatural world that April Asher has built and the characters within it.
Olive and Bax are SO good together. Their chemistry is top notch. I was excited to get this one read in October because it was the perfect Halloween vibes. I love the way the supernatural world is built into the human world so naturally.

Thank you to St. Martin's and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was one of those books that I read and thought, "why did I not pick this up sooner?" This one has been on my TBR shelf for over a year and I am so sad I didn't read it until now. I have always been a fan of mutual pining, and I think April Asher did well in making me believe that these two main characters had feelings that were building prior to the start of this book. The storyline was compelling and made sense to the characters. Since this was my first Asher book, I am intrigued enough to go back and read her previous books in this series. I would highly recommend this one to my fellow friends-to-lovers fans, or anyone looking for a quick spooky romance book.

The one thing that I really like about this series is that each book follows a different sister. The first two books were full of tropes that I love. This book was a friends to lovers trope which I have a hot and cold relationship with. I need build up or a recap of how they became friends in the first place. I felt with this one the reader is dropped into the pre-established friendship. I just didn’t believe in their chemistry as much as the other two couples in the series.

This book was still a lot of fun. I love the world and the mixture of supernatural beings. I think this may be the last book of this series but I’m hoping for a companion series set in this same world.

This was my least favorite of the Supernatural Singles series. The banter was cringy, the "tension" was more like him constantly hitting on her and her wondering if he liked her, and the story was predictable and cheesy.

Fat rep still slays though.

Thanks to netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

April Asher delivers yet another delightfully steamy paranormal rom-com with the third book in the Supernatural Singles series. Following Olive Maxwell, the youngest of the triplet witches, and her swoon-worthy, tattooed biker guardian angel, Bax, this book is filled with charm, humor, and some sizzling moments.

While this one can be enjoyed as a standalone, the first two books offer great world-building, giving Not Your Crush’s Cauldron more space to focus on the romance—and it’s sexy! Olive’s journey out of her comfort zone, paired with Bax’s own challenges, creates a sweet yet spicy dynamic. The chemistry between them is palpable, though I wish the conflict had been a bit more intense. Still, the forbidden love and forced proximity tropes are executed beautifully.

If you’re into paranormal rom-coms with found family, bad boys with golden retriever energy, and a heroine determined to challenge herself, this one’s for you.

There's tons more witchy fun in this installment of the Supernatural Singles series. This time, it's Olive, the third Maxwell sister finding love.

This had such a fun plot with Olive trying to step out of her comfort zone, and her new roommate, Bax, is along for the ride. I absolutely loved Olive and Bax together. They were so amazing and cute! Their relationship was just perfect!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I think this is the best of the series so far. It felt less cheesy than the others for some reason and while the dialogue gets a little cringy, it’s not as bad as the first two. I think I even liked the characters better. We still don’t get deep into any of the characters which is not my favorite, but the story is still good.

I might recommend this book, but not the whole series

Reading the synopsis of this novel, the story felt like it was a standalone and sounded like it would fit the bill for what my spoopy little heart desired. However, upon immersing myself in the story, I felt like I was missing so much backstory. Not Your Crush’s Cauldron is actually the third book in the supernatural singles series and definitely needs to be read in order. This book follows timid Olive who is quite used to living in her comfort zone and guardian angel Baxter. When she challenges herself to live outside her norm, the story really picks up and the slow build of their relationship was a delight to read. However, for a large portion of the novel, I felt like Olive was the butt of the joke amongst her friend group and would have liked to seen even more growth on her end. Overall, this was a light, fun story, but should be read as book three of a series.

I absolutely love every single book in this series, and this one was no different! It was cute, it was swoon-worthy, and it was captivating!

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review. Review previously withheld in solidarity with the St. Martin’s Press reviewer boycott.

While I really enjoyed book one of the Supernatural Singles series, I ended up DNFing book two, although the reasons I did so have now slipped my mind. However, I ended up enjoying book three, Not Your Crush’s Cauldron, quite a bit. And while it is third in a series, I’ve more or less forgotten what I did read of the one and a bit books I read, and didn’t have any issues getting into this one, so I can confidently say this works as a standalone.

I really liked the characters and their dynamic. As a risk-averse person myself, I love reading about protagonists who decide to start living even in the most simple of ways, and Olive definitely fits the bill. I really liked her initial setup as this boring teacher of the supernatural, a contrast to her more exciting sisters, and how she flips the script by making a “Dare I Docket” of all these things she’d love to do to live on the wild side. And while the presentation of said “docket” did get a tad repetitive, it was fun to see how the document evolved as her arc did.

Bax is also a pretty fun love interest. He’s a secret Guardian Angel who has crossed the line too many times, and this led him to being assigned to help “boring” Olive, only for her new plane to set off alarm bells for the Guardian Angels.

That leads to a fun spin on a common romcom setup, with them having a mutual crush, and becoming roommates as he tries to keep her out of trouble. While it did seem a bit odd to be alarmed, as she wasn’t doing anything too out-there, I did like that it encouraged the two to spend more time together and their mutual secret attraction is tested.

And with it being more of a story about Olive finding herself and falling in love, the magic, especially on the witch side of things is somewhat minor, but it was fun to see the Guardian Angel bureaucracy and how it was impacted by the human decisions people make.

This was a lot of fun, and I’m glad this series finished on a high note. If you enjoy paranormal romcoms with witches and angels, I’d recommend checking this out.

I had no doubt I would though because I’ve been loving this series over the past few years. In this one we finally get to the 3rd triplet in our witchy trio of sisters Olive, Olive is more shy and reserved in nature than her sisters. But in this one we really see her start to come into her own thanks to a new sexy Angel roomate, a bucket list, and helping her sister violet take the seat as the new Prima. I thought this was so fun to watch her do all the list and that bax her sexy new Angel roommate tags along for the adventures. I loved the chemistry between these two, it was such a sweet slow burn! And I laughed so hard at some of the things they did like the dirty dancing scene. I thought they worked so well together and brought out the best in each other. Over all I loved the 3rd in this series and will read more of what this author puts out, I listened to the audiobook of this and thought the narrator did a great job. She read both parts and everything flowed really good!

Bax and Olive were super fun! I really enjoyed the Dare I Docket and all the fun things that went along with it. I loved getting to see the other Maxwell family members and their people too! Great fun and laughter in this story.

I love April Asher, I truly do.

Whether she’s Asher or Hunt, she brings the heart.

I’ve read all the books in the supernatural singles series, and I’ve had high hopes for all of them.

Sadly, Not Your Crush’s Cauldron falls short for me.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still enjoyable, it’s just not as fun as the first two. I feel like we lost some steam (as in momentum, not spice) and tried too much to be Erin Sterling when April Asher is THAT witch.

Olive was the one I was most excited for, but it became more Brat than that.

Overall, not my favorite of the sisters stories, but a great roundup to the series regardless.

Out now!

April is at it again!!
I loved this first in this series and man she didn't disappoint me.
I love the characters and the world she has built.

This pairing was broadcasted so clearly in the first two books and it did not disappoint me. The MMC's family was awful and his dad can go kick rocks, but the love story was great. Even though the FMC was deemed needing of a guardian angel, what she was doing wasn't very dangerous compared to what others need angels for, I'd imagine. So that seemed a bit weird to me, but it makes sense that she was wanting to open her horizons and try new things, much like her sister from the previous book.
