I missed reading this audiobook and realized I hadn't left a note. I've tried to locate this audiobook on Libby or other free source so I could carry-through my self-imposed obligation.

It has only 2 reviews in over a year and I'm wondering it it is out of publication. Thanks anyway for an opportunity that I missed. I rated it 4 stars just so this note could be sent to NG, the publisher and author.

Cove, The
by Gregg Dunnett
Narrated by Jan Cramer

Rating: 4/5 Stars

The Cove by Gregg Dunnett starts off great! Erica Sands is one of the best investigators around. After a particularly gruesome murder, while trying to bring in the suspect, she tries to do the right thing and help some fellow officers, and everything literally blows up in her face. I wish this story would have continued more, to be honest. I was totally and completely hooked.

Fast forward to some time later-Erica Sands is still recovering, and the parents of the murdered girl have portioned off part of their property. A woman named Christine and her kids now live literally right across the courtyards from the grieving family, the Slaughters. Christine becomes convinced that they had the wrong suspect in the Slaughter's daughters crime and she enlists Erica Sands to help her.

This was a solid book and I honestly want to hear more about Erica Sands and her investigations. I found her to be an interesting character who I could relate to. I know she's a recurring character in many of Mr. Dunnett's novels, so I'll be checking some of those out for sure.

Overall, this was an entertaining story that kept me interested and listening to the end. I'd recommend it and I thought that Jan Cramer did a good job bringing the story and characters to life. Thank you NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and the author for this ARC!

I’m excited to this be a start to series. I’m ready to be all in with Detective Erica Sands.

The narrator expertly brought this slow-burn mystery to life with her voice and great use of emotions. This mystery is character-driven like most are when we get to experience a series, of course it’s mixed with suspense and a constant tension. I was completely invested as evidence mounted and secrets were exposed.

The book was very well paced and kept me invested. The twists and turns weren't obvious or outlandish as I was kept speculating all the way through.

Mystery/crime/thrillers like these often have the ending rushed leading up to the big reveal and after, which this book completely avoided doing and made it an excellent read until the end.

Listening to this audiobook was like relaxing in a warm bath. The narrator expertly brought this slow-burn mystery to life with her soothing cadence. This mystery is character-driven with a healthy dose of suspense and a constant thread of tension. I was completely hooked as evidence mounted and secrets were revealed. This is the first installment of the Detective Erica Sands saga and I can’t wait for the next book in this captivating series. Thank you, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my audiobook.

4.5 stars!
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape for the advanced audio book of The Cove.
What a great story. This was told from different POV and I wasn’t sure where at first where the story was going or how it would come together, but the author did a great job putting all the pieces together.
A young girl was found dead on the beach, which leads them straight to a known local criminal. However, nothing is what it seems. The story is filled with action, thrills, plots, and twists.
The ending came as a complete shock and the biggest twist of all! Such great writing. A book you won’t want to put down. I can’t wait to read another book by this author.

The female main character was way too annoying. I'm not sure if it would be better reading it without the audio. But either way she was too abrasive and I ended up quiting at 35%

So twisty!!!

This is the first time I've heard or tried a novel by Gregg Dunnett and I have to say I found the 3 part style of this quite refreshing and unique.

This story moves fast which I loved and the twist were unexpected which is something I don't often get to say.

I would absolutely recommend this book to my friends and have pre-order book 2 from the Kindle store.

This thriller was fun and exciting to listen to. At times I had to make sure I didn't have a beverage in my hand as I listened intently. I was startled several times in this book and it left me really thinking. A definite pick up and read or listen!

Christine’s husband has passed away. She decides that she and her kids need a fresh start. They move to a cliff top house with breathtaking views. But Christine soon learns this area has a past. A little child was murdered on the beach below her. And the murderer was found…but was it the right guy. Christine knows deep in her heart the cops made a mistake! She is positive it was her neighbor!

This book needs a bit of a trigger warning. It starts off with two rough scenes…one with an animal and one with a child. I will be honest, it was almost a DNF for me at that point. I thought I will give it 3 strikes…it was up to 2! The story just kept getting better and better after that rough start. And it reeled me in…hook, line and sinker!

Erica Sands is a smart cookie. I loved her strength and intelligence. She never gives up. Then there is Christine. I really enjoyed how the author portrays her. As the reader, you are definitely drawn into her situation, which creates all kinds of emotions!

The narrator, Jan Cramer, is not my favorite in this novel. I felt like her voice was very harsh for Detective Sands, especially when she is giving bad news to someone. And she gets pretty shrill when Christine would get excited. Now that one might be by design. Someone listen to this and tell me your thoughts!

Need a good murder tale…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

THIS BOOK!

I came for the intrigue and stayed for the twists!! It was deliciously dark in just the right places and then whiplash took me to the end and I was here for it!!

As a wife and a mom, I truly can NOT imagine the horrors inside the heads of loved ones and I feel that’s all I can say!!

The narrator also did a fantastic job with the characters! I will be looking for her name in the future!

This book was published on July 4 and available for read (or listen) NOW!!

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

The ending of the first part had me surprised. I didn’t expect it. Going into the second part, I didn’t know what to expect, but eventually, I learned how the stories fit together. The story is told by two POVs, Detective Erica Sands and Christine Harvey. Christine ended up being too panicky and sure of herself, and it was annoying at times. Near the end, I felt it was unrealistic, and some character development was needed to try to make sense of the ending. Overall, it kept me entertained for the most part.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for providing me an advanced copy.

The Cove
By: Gregg Dunnett
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Set during the pandemic this psychological thriller is set around the death of a young girl who was abducted and murdered.

Christine Harvey has moved to a gorgeous home on a cliff overlooking the ocean with her children after the death of her husband. She did not realized that the father of the young child murdered lives next door to her. He was a suspect and now she is concerned for her young children and searches for answers.

Sometimes the past should be left alone? What will she find out? Is she and her children safe?

Thank you Netgalley for this audio. A new author for me to check out more of his backlog. Out July 2023.

I normal like listening to mysteries, but this one the narrator sounds accusatory and angry at everyone. I had a hard time getting into the story

When Christine Harvey and her children move to a new cliff top home for a new start she is upset to learn that a child was abducted and killed right next door. She is unsettled and digs deeper into the case. I was shocked buy the ending and wanted more DCI Stone stories.

Review: This was better in the beginning and the end, some of the middle was too far-fetched and the audio was dull. Amazon has this listed a cozy animal mystery and this truly doesn’t make sense to me. This was a ‘police procedure/who done it?’ with some gruesome parts that I should not have been eating to while listening. Overall not the best, but not the worst.
Recommended For: Those who like a who committed the crime books.

The Cove (Detective Erica Sands Book 1) by Gregg Dunnett

I really enjoyed listening to this crime thriller audiobook that I received through Netgalley. Detective Erica Sands is a unique character that really intrigued me. The daughter of a serial killer, Sands knows too well the patterns and behaviors of the perpetrators. She is strong willed and dedicated to her job. Can’t wait to get to know her even more with the next novel. Thanks Dreamscape Media, Storm Publishing, and Netgalley for this audiobook ARC. Publication Date: July 25, 2023
