This is a good book. The two main characters are Micki and JL. There is an instant attraction. Micki is a lawyer. JL co-owns a security firm. Nicki’s ex is stalking her. JL ‘s company is hired to protect her. They start dating. Her ex is still stalking no matter how many times she changes her phone. They each have trusting issues. They fall in love.

Complex and addictive with multiple subplots ranging from stalking, deceit, manipulation, and rampant Good Ole Boys in corporate law. Some tense moments and plenty of action, plus a bit of romance. Everything ties up with a satisfying conclusion.

At the ready is the third in the Global Security Unlimited series and follows JL and Micki's story.
Micki is a lawyer at a prestigious firm, fighting to make partner, she's working constantly and has no time to date. But when her ex starts harassing her, she decides to accepts JL's offer of bodyguards and their relationship begins to blossom.

Unfortunately I did not enjoy this book at all. I felt that it needed a lot more editing before it would be readable, whilst it's a great plot in theory, the execution just didn't work. There's so much focus on extra information that's completely unnecessary that the story gets lost. For example, on almost every page there's a reference to food and coffee, not just one or two words but sentences or paragraphs describing the food and how the coffee is made. This would be okay once or twice in the duration of the novel but not on every second page. Additionally, a lot of the conversation is very stilted and unrealistic. A lot of it needs cutting down and to be focused back onto the plot instead of straying away from the main storyline. I found it difficult to focus on what was actually happening as there is so much superfluous information and excess description of every meal, building, person and outfit.
Also, Sam's behaviour is honestly insane and utterly unrealistic. We get no context as to why he's behaving this way and how he knows the skills to evade police etc.
The relationship between Micki and JL develops incredibly slowly but somehow for them both they're already in a devoted relationship despite going on ONE date and having ONE kiss on the cheek. This makes it utterly unbelievable and makes them seem immature despite them both being in their forties.
A painful read that unfortunately didn't have any redeeming features.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC.

Micki and Jl.

Micki is ambitious, and stubborn and underestimates the danger. JL is ambitious, and protective, and luckily, good at what he does. There's a lot going on here, with interesting side characters, drama, meddling family, toxic exes, suspense, and throughout it all, these two are falling in love and trying to navigate how that fits into their lives. Loved the French Canadian touches, the travel, the bike...

A light read and perfect if you love a grown up love story!

Thank you NetGalley and the author for the ARC.
