This was a slow burn thriller . I really did enjoy it. This was my first time reading this author. I will definitely recommend reading this and I can’t wait to read others by her.

I would NOT consider this novel a thriller. I would consider it a historical fiction novel, but there wasn't a whole lot of "thrill" going on. I enjoyed the premise of this novel, but I felt like there was always a pane of glass between the narrator and characters.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and author for an e-ARC of this novel.

I loved the premise of this book, a boy looking to do better for himself so he can get out of the small-town steel mills and help save people’s lives against the wishes of his father. A girl who grew up rich and wants to be independent and do things her own way and marry who she finds suitable for herself and not follow her family’s stereotype.

It had me immersed in the story from the start but about halfway through there was a lul once gotten through there were more battles for them to emerge through with the Great Depression and new unpopular research. I wish in some parts there would have been more detail and drawn out since they were big events in the book.

Audrey Gale does a great job in creating this novel, I enjoyed that it uses the three genres together. It worked well overall with the story and I enjoyed getting to know the characters. It has a great medical feel to it and I enjoyed what was going on in this novel.

I have never read a book quite like this one! The cover and title were intriguing enough that I went into this one completely blind, without even reading the synopsis. I felt like the book was so original, and the plot was well thought out. It was more of a slow burn than other thriller type books, but that didn’t make it bad in any way. There was so much thought out into everything, so many breadcrumbs that lead up to an incredible ending.
The characters were well developed, and their personalities/reactions felt genuine to each character. A beautiful story about a man fighting two conflicting pieces of himself.

I went into The Human Trial by Audrey Gale with no expectations, having never read anything by this author. The characters were well developed. The story had a good plot overall. I did find the book to be an extremely slow burn. The book was well written.

Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced reader copy for my honest opinion.
