The Search Party was told in multiple POV. It kept the story very interesting through out. Old friends are reunited to “Glamp” then issues arise with the children and then the adults. Tensions are high when a child goes missing and a body is found. The author was great at building suspense.

This book was great, it felt fresh and not like anything else I've read lately. It kept me intrigued all the way through, I didn't want to put it down.

This locked-room mystery is told from multiple points of view, moving between the police investigation, a hospital room, and the weekend itself. It is atmospheric and intense, keeping you on the edge of your seat. All their lives are changed by the events that happen and not all for the better. Highly recommended!

Rating: 3.4 stars

This was a fun one, filled with twists and turns. The only thing that took away from the rating was the confusing beginning. I was lost for a while before I finally caught up on things that had me confused. Other than that, this kept me guessing and on my toes! Good book!

Plenty of drama and secrets with this one!
I did get lost during the first few chapters until I had sorted out who was who.
I think Richell threw just about every twist and turn she could on her characters.
It was nerve wracking to read from the comfort of my couch.
And this is why I swear for hotel “camping”

4.5 stars - I picked this book up based off of the above premise alone. I am an absolute sucker for the phrase locked-room mystery although I would argue that it doesn't really apply here. But that's neither here nor there. It's what made me pick this book up - that and the promise of a huge storm (another of my buzz words with mysteries). And to be honest I'm so glad that I read this one as I really enjoyed it. Within the beginning pages of this book the reader learns a few things: one that the weekend went unexpectedly and horribly wrong somehow and also that someone is in the hospital. But you don't know who or what exactly happened, and the story really goes from there peeling back both the past and present. The story goes back and forth between the different characters that were there that weekend while telling the story of what exactly happened. It helped that there was a character list at the beginning which helped me keep track of who was who. I was completely hooked the entire time! I feel like looking back I should have suspected more of what happened but I really didn't. I was just along for the ride that the author was taking me on. And what a ride it was!

Readers who enjoy suspenseful, page turning reads need to give this book a try. Overall, I ended up giving this one 4.5 stars and hope that more readers find it. It's one of those books that has really stuck with me weeks later.

I truly enjoyed this book, and had no idea where the storyline was going most of the time. I was happy with the ending and with the level of mystery provided therein.

The Search Party is a gripping psychological thriller that explores the dark secrets and lies that lurk beneath the surface of a seemingly perfect family. The story follows the disappearance of Sadie, a troubled teenage girl who vanishes after a night out with her friends. Her mother, Jess, is desperate to find her, but soon realizes that she knows very little about her daughter's life. As the police investigation stalls, Jess decides to take matters into her own hands and organizes a search party with Sadie's closest friends. But as they retrace Sadie's steps, they uncover shocking revelations that make them question everything they thought they knew about her. Who was Sadie? What was she hiding? And who can Jess trust in her quest for the truth?

The Search Party is a fast-paced and suspenseful novel. Hannah Richell skillfully weaves together multiple perspectives and timelines, creating a complex and layered narrative that reveals the hidden depths of each character. The book also explores themes such as family, friendship, loyalty, betrayal, guilt, and redemption, showing how the past can haunt the present and how the choices we make can have unforeseen consequences. A secluded location, an angry neighbor, and a torrential downpour during a glamping trip…what could go wrong? With this group of friends and all their secrets the answer is just about anything. This is another recently released thriller that threw me for a loop and I loved every second!

Max and Annie are opening a clamping business on the secluded coast of Cornwall and invite their three closest friends and their families to join them for a dry-run weekend. There is tension in the group from the last time they were all together which spills over into this weekend but they all try to enjoy their stay…until they don’t. As tempers flare, children fight, and huge secrets are spilled, one of them goes missing during a sudden and terrible storm.

This story is told in multiple points of view and a nonlinear timeline, which is one of my favorite narrative structures! The dual audiobook narrators helped keep all of the main characters separate in my mind which is a huge bonus when so many people are involved in a story. I was quickly drawn in both by the wonderful narration and the tension of the story itself. It was easy to binge this in an afternoon and is the perfect read for a rainy day!

Add this one to your lists if you’re a fan of procedurals, family drama, misunderstood children, locked room mysteries, and celebrity friends.

3.5/5!

Fans of drama and isolated/locked-room thrillers, you should check this one out!

I love when friends/families/couples/groups get together in thrillers. You just know something bad is going to happen and there is going to be more than enough drama to go around. The Search Party comes through and fully delivers on this. From the start you can tell each couple has secrets they don’t want the others to know about. Even the children of these couples are involved in the dramatics, whether they realize it or not.

If you’re looking for likeable characters, The Search Party doesn’t have many to offer. This is a route I always find fascinating when authors choose it because usually you have one main character you’re rooting for in a thriller. Richell strikes a fine balance and manages to keep the reader fully invested while also hating some of the people the storyline is following. Part of what helps this is that Richell allows the reader to look at the situation through multiple character’s eyes. The well-rounded portrayal of the situation and the character’s reactions is something that kept me coming back for more.

This was my first novel by Hannah Richell and consider me hooked! The Search Party was a captivating thriller with twists I didn’t see coming. A group of friends since university and their families going glamping on the English coast during a storm - what could go wrong? This novel was incredibly atmospheric, with multiple POV’s and alternate timelines from “before” and “after” that had me furiously turning pages late into the night. I can’t wait to read more of Richell’s work.

Thank you to the author, Atria Books and NetGalley for the ARC.

this was a pretty decent version of a ‘retreat’ mystery trope - the amount of characters can be a bit overwhelming and hard to keep track of at times but the plot moves along pretty nicely. I also felt a bit annoyed with the writing intentionally being vague in terms of not revealing the victim until later in the book, as if the police and family would just never mention the name.
i kept the pages turning but I can’t say it was a standout or particularly memorable version of this trope

Max and Annie Kingsley have sold their architectural firm in London and moved to Cornwall in order to provide themselves with a lifestyle closer to nature and their 12-year old adopted son, Kip, the support which his earlier traumatic years have made necessary. Their goal is to create an off-the-grid glamping resort in remote and disused farmland along the Cornish coast. They are just about ready to open the resort to paying customers when they invite a group of couples they have remained close to since their time at University for a trial run. Interconnections between the old friends are complicated and some are held as close secrets, forming a set up for dangerous reveals.

After the first night of revelry, a major storm blows in, setting the friends one against another and the entire group in opposition to the neighboring farmer who wants the resort closed before it opens. The children are separated from the adults during the storm, and first one person, then another, and another go missing. The complicated relationships between the old friends and between the newcomers and lifelong Cornish residents are slowly revealed as the missing are searched for and secrets are uncovered.

While the glamping set-up is what caught my attention at first, the combination of deft characterization, atmospheric writing about the location and the storm, and clever plotting is what kept me reading. Richell managed to create a self-contained (at least for a weekend) world from which there was no escape and which was filled with dread and danger. Scene after almost-cinematic scene plays out, each isolating the characters further and raising the discomfort levels of the characters and readers alike.

A number of social issues are raised, mainly centering around privilege and social class. As we are introduced to and become invested in the characters, we are asked to think about such issues as the effects of reality TV, how much of oneself should be sacrificed to one’s career, issues of natural vs. adoptive paternity, and the long-term effects of the foster care system.

The pace is dramatically fast and the book is hard to put down, but the back and forth style that switches from the immediate danger of the storm at the glamping site to and from sessions between the adults and the police investigating after the fact provides spaced-out breaksS from the relentless danger. Richell does a terrific job of creating a version of a locked room mystery at the same time that she allows the reader a reprieve from the claustrophobic intensity of a raging storm.

This is the best kind of atmospheric thriller, where the characters are flawed, the dangers are real, and the writing is stellar.

The Search Party by Hannah Richell is an absolute delight. When I read the description and saw it was about a glamping trip, I was a tad bit skeptical but ended up loving it!

The Prologue absolutely sucks you right in and it has twists and turns all over the place after that. The Search Party is about a group of college friends who head out to the country for a preview of their friends’ new glamping resort before it opens to the public.

I normally struggle with books that have a lot of characters. I read so quickly it gets confusing fast - but this one was actually easy to keep up with.

Thank you so much to Hannah Richell and NetGalley for sending me an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

About three chapters into The Search Party, I knew I was going to LOVE this book! After a reading spell where I wasn't that excited to go back to the book I was currently reading, with The Search Party, I sped through it in two day!

What did I love about the book?
1. A simple thiing, but because there were four families and many characters in this book, the author started with a little character listing page. So helpful, those first few chapters, until you get all the characters separated in your head!
2. But once I got into the book, the characters quickly became distinct to me. It's quite a challenge to juggle so many characters and have them all stand out with their distinct characteristics. What is even more of a writing feat, most of these were very flawed people, or at least very human. The author managed to show some of the characters in an un
flattering light, yet we still cared about them. Some times authors can go too far, and make everyone in the book despicable, at which point I simply don't care.
3. Each chapter was written in a different characters POV. Not all the characters, especially some of the children, had their own chapters. But there were quite a few, and it was very well handled. I didn't find it at all confusing, switching into these different character's heads.
4. It was a fast-paced, gripping story. The time line did switch back and forth a little, but this only made for tantalizing hints about what was coming.
5. The story had a satisfying conclusion.

What I didn't like?
I can't think of a thing!

I highly recommend this read for those wishing for a book to immerse themselves in. Just be sure you have some spare time to read, if like me, you're not able to put it down!

Thanks to NetGalley, Atria Books, and author Hannah Richell for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
