Not much to appraise but the end was good and author decided to give the cat-rat chase a story behind it. This may will become the reason for children to catch that cat chase rat for a reason but for real this is simple food chain. "The Great Race' terminology initially seemed like to tell about which of the species was on top in food chain but later by end it made way for a humor & comedy with a build-up story for why cats always chase rats?
Overall the book is okay and so does its illustrations.
