New comfort read? Unlocked! Possibly new auto-buy author? Very strong chance!

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was the perfect read in between intense high fantasy reads. There was very simple world building, it was fast paced, and deliciously spicy.

I also very much appreciated the heart in this book. The obvious heart being the love that blooms between the FMC and the MMC. And the less obvious heart of humanity in this book. There is diversity among the characters: in race/skin color, culture, sexual orientation, and body shapes and sizes. The best part is, all the differing things are accepted and welcomed among the main group of characters. And even BETTER than that is this group is fighting for a better world where all these things are widely accepted (even if they have to be villainous to do it.)

I'm looking forward to reading the rest of Kimberly Lemmings books!

This is the story of Cinnamon, who is a spice farmer in a small town. In this universe, demons are held beyond a barrier that the Goddess maintains. Cinnamon gets a little too drunk at the annual chosen-one-choosing ceremony and on her way back to her farm…. well… saves a demon, lol.

From there we learn all kinds of things about the world, and about the Goddess, as Cinnamon and the demon, Fallon, go on an adventure to destroy four phylacteries around the world.

And there is many shenanigans (and much horizontally mamboing, this is a romance) along the way!

I read this one in just short of two days. It was an interesting mix of a pretty bread and butter fantasy land (think World of Warcraft, or Forgotten Realms) mixed with modern language and slang. I know a few people that this sort of mix would annoy, but I love it.

I thought Cinnamon was an easy character to root for. She’s energetic and likeable. I of course wanted Cinnamon and Fallon to fall in Wuv, with an Earth W. As this is a romance, I was pretty certain that it was going to end in a HEA, and it did (yay!).

All told, if you like silly fantasy stories mixed with silly romances, you should pick this one up. It’s very entertaining.

This is a higher stakes cozy fantasy with some DELICIOUS smut.

Cinnamon is such a fun character that I fell in love with almost immediately. I feel like right out of the gate you get such a good sense of who she is.

As for Fallon, lets be real, I would hate him irl. But in the book world I would like to climb him like a tree. He’s a tad grumpy and possessive and protective but also has fun silly moments. I’m not usually a fan of the insta-love trope but him immediately deciding he wants to marry her when she’s like wtf was kinda super cute? 🥵

Anyways if you can’t tell, I loved this book. The adventure was fun, the characters were delightful and funny and the spice was spicing.

That Time I got Drunk and Saved a Demon is quirky, with over abounding humor that made me genuinely laugh out loud. This cosy hilarious fantasy is so well written. It’s unputdownable, easy to read and has a sweet spicy romance that made me happy in its pure adorableness.

Cinnamon, yes - she’s named Cinnamon, is attacked after a night of drinking and accidentally saves a demon with, well, cinnamon, hence the title. The bargain struck afterwards leads Cin down an adventurous path that’ll change her life and her world forever.

The plethora of adorable fantastic characters that fill these pages is so numerous, seriously this series could go for so many books because there were so many secondary characters that would be delightful to read about.

I really enjoyed this, I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for humor, romance and a smattering of spice all set in a unique world.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I went into this book blind - it is so unexpected that way! This is an adventure, wrapped into a romance, peppered with humor, and with all kinds of surprising events. Cinnamon is sassy and vulnerable, with a hard exterior over a marshmallow center. Her "demon" forces her to change her entire view of the world, but their love story is funny and fun.

This was a cute, light read! The characters were likable and funny, and it's always nice to read a lighthearted adventure. Since this was more of a cozy romantasy than a FANTASY fantasy, I understand that the world building wasn't as detailed as some longer books, but I do think I would've enjoyed learning more about the world and the lore around the demons, as well as Cinnamon's family and background. Some of the sentences felt like they could've used another round of line editing or two, but overall I had fun with this one, and I think it's a great option to read between heavier books.

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done while drunk?
In “That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon” Cin finds herself in a precarious situation when she, as the title suggests, gets drunk and accidentally saves a demon. This drunken mistakes results in our heroine going on an epic adventure to find both friendship….and love.
This wasn’t my favorite book I’ve ever read. I didn’t find the story particularly memorable. The characters also talked using modern slang which is a stylistic choice I personally don’t like in a fantasy book. Because of that, I rated this book 2.5 out of 5 stars. It was just average for me.
What I did like about this book was that it was fast paced and fun. I didn’t take long to read and I enjoyed my time with the characters. I would recommend this to readers who want a quick and steamy read that they can get through quickly and enjoy in the moment.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

[3.5/5] THAT TIME I GOT DRUNK AND SAVED A DEMON is a title that speaks for itself. Cinnamon, a spice trader, walks home drunk, minding her own business, and runs into an injured demon named Fallon. A chase ensues and before Cinnamon knows it she becomes part of Fallon's quest to kill a demon-enslaving witch. Adventure and banter ensue and Cinnamon begins to realize she like Fallon rather more than she wants to admit.

This first standalone installment of the Mead Mishaps series is a veritable good time. Go into it expecting entertaining banter, a straightforward quest, and some spicy romance. I enjoyed it as a fast-paced mood read and really appreciated that I didn't have to "commit" to the series because it reads as a standalone. The author pokes fun at the names of Brie, a cheesemaker, and Cinnamon, a cinnamon grower. All in all, this book doesn't take itself too seriously and I love it for that.

While the plot itself is rather simple, it served its purpose to free the demon race and bring Cinnamon and Fallon together. Some of the strongest scenes, in my opinion, are those that involve Cinnamon's family. Their loving and boisterous dynamic really shines as does their love for each other. Cinnamon's and Fallon's several days long ride to the city allows for Fallon's humor to pop out. It also lets Cinnamon introduce her heritage through food and spices (crawfish boil, anyone?).

Although the world building is minimal, Lemming incorporates just enough that the reader gets a sense the author has plenty of backstory to share. There are different types of demons, lands Cinnamon hasn't visited, and a nice map at the front of the book. Since the story is dominantly character-based, I don't feel the minimal world building is a drawback.

While I enjoyed reading about Cinnamon's adventures, there were a couple of things that felt rushed. The first was the incorporation of the enslavement of demons by humans. This came out of the blue and felt shoehorned into the plot. I commend Cinnamon's black and white opinion about it, but it lacked the emotional nuance I felt this heavy topic requires. Second, the spice seemed oddly timed and distractingly loquacious. I chalk the timing up to the relatively short length of the book and a personal preference for more relationship development rather than instalust. But the timing of the deeds after violent events was a bit jolting.

Overall, THAT TIME I GOT DRUNK AND SAVED A DEMON is a veritable good time. Despite some personal preference nitpicking, I enjoyed this book for what it is: a fast-paced, light fantasy with humorous characters and an approachable plot. It's perfect as a mood read or palate cleanser or, simply, because it's fun.

Thank you so much to Orbit for providing a review copy for me to check out this gorgeous book early! After reading the blurb and seeing the cover I knew I just had to check this one out. I have recently delved into the world of what the youths call “romantacy” and have yet to be disappointed. Unfortunately, this one just didn’t connect with me. After reading about half of the book I came to realize the writing style just wasn’t doing it for me. The characters and world building all had great promise. I’m not going to be surprised to see a swamp full of great reviews for this beauty!

This is the first book I’ve read from Kimberly Lemming, and I’m going to be honest. It was not what I expected. I assumed from the title that it was going to be funny, and it did not disappoint on the humor aspect. There were times, however, that I was just thinking “oh good lord, how could this get any more ridiculous?” Then it would. Almost like reading a Lola Faust book without the Dino erotica.
But it didn’t suck. It was ridiculously funny, smexy in some areas, with a good amount of “good girls” to make you happy! The overall story was….. outrageous but cool at the same time. The overall premise was so outlandish that you just can’t help but love it. I’m probably going to continue the series!
This book is a good choice for anyone who wants some smutty, spicy scenes and plenty of humor. It looks innocent, but don’t be fooled. There are plenty of scenes you don’t want your teenager to read! If you love “monsters” of all types, you’ll enjoy the variety that appears throughout this story.
Thank you to NetGalley for the DRC! This review and all opinions are my own!!

This book was a breath of fresh air in the romantacy category. Sometimes the language chosen was a bit jarring, being in a fantasy world and having the characters speak with modern colloquialisms, however it made it feel very laid back to read. It is a book that does not take itself seriously, but it was very enjoyable. Cinnamon is a great character who does have her flaws and her traumas to work through, and watching her find love, albeit in a rather short period of time, was a delight.

This book is ridiculous and fun.

What I liked:
The demon characters were a fun twist, the main character did not take herself too seriously, the sort-of seriousness of the first half of the book, the side characters in general, and the main plot.

What I didn't like:
The last, like, third of the book was mostly spice, which is fine, but I was actually getting pretty into the quest we were all going on, and wanted to know more about the different kinds of demons. I also wasn't a huge fan of the nowadays language and terms used, but it did create a certain atmosphere to the book (and see above, the main character didn't take herself too seriously.)

Thanks to Orbit and Netgalley for the e-ARC!

This was so much fun! I thought this was just going to be a cozy fantasy with a small amount of spice, but it was surprisingly adventurous, quirky and quite spicy. This is something I would not typically pick up, but I’m so glad I did. It was a great pick to diversify my reading this year.

Thank you Kimberly Lemming, Orbit and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Rating: Really Enjoyed It, 4 stars

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming was a really good time. We follow Cinnamon, a spice farmer/trader who wants no adventures, thank you very much. However, one finds her when she saves a demon's life on accident as she is drunkenly returning home after a big celebration in town. She escapes the demon, but lo and behold he turns up on her front doorstep the next morning and drags her off on a quest to kill a big bad.

This was very much a questy, campy romance, and there were so many fun elements. I really loved Cin and Fallon as a couple, and Cin especially as an individual. I thought their banter was exquisite, and Cin's love of food and snacks in particular was a delight. There is some great found family, and I overall just really loved my time in this world. I read it in about 2 days because I didn't want to put it down.

There is a lot of insta-love type things happening, but I honestly didn't care that much because it was just so fun. I loved the "Who did this to you" moments and just had a great time. It had some good spice, and made me laugh a lot. The characters are not necessarily super fleshed out, but they are fun.

So that being said, the reason that I didn't absolutely love this one was that the writing was rather choppy and felt very much like an indie romance. There were times that I was completely taken out of the story, and while I didn't care that much, it was jarring in those moments. I definitely think that Kimberly Lemming is a fantastic storyteller though, and writing style usually doesn't matter as much to me as long as I can grab onto something else.

I am looking forward to the rest of the tales set in this world!

Thank you to Netgalley and Orbit books for an eARC of the trad pub version. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

How did I wait so long to jump into this book? By page 2 I had already chuckled seven times. Cinnamon was a girl after my own heart, wine and cheese is most definitely a meal all on its own. The story was endearing, fast paced and kept me giggling. If you are looking for a feel good steamy hea romance definitely give this book a chance!

This was a really funny and cozy read. Cinnamon was such a great character, and it was nice to read about a black lead character in a fantasy novel that was just straight up having an adventure. I loved that she wasn't a fan of all the insanity even as she ploughed ahead. My only complaint is that it was a bit short, would have loved more time with Cinnamon and Fallon.

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon is such a fun read! It is whimsical and unique and I couldn't wait to read the rest of the series. I loved the characters and their relationships, and really enjoyed the spice. Highly recommend!

LOVE! I truly enjoyed this cozy little story. The combination of modern language and a medieval fantasy world really added to how fun this book was to read. Plus, who doesn't love snarky FMC, "touch her and die", and he fell harder and first vibes?
