This cookbooks starts out like most. It gives an explanation for the Noom plan, pantry staples, and then starts in the recipes. They are not particularly groundbreaking but many or very simple and easy to follow. But as someone who does not eat a lot of meat, I feel like this cookbook is not as useful as I hoped.
Like most cookbooks, this collection is a combination of hit and miss. Some of the recipes were on the easier side, with few ingredients. Many others were more intricate and contained more ingredients than a recipe needs. The Noom philosophy was new to me so I enjoyed learning about it. Overall, I walked away with some new recipes but don’t believe this was the book for me.
I haven't followed the Noom diet, so this was all new to me. It was interesting to read the process, and there were lots of great pictures to show the recipes. Looking forward to trying some of these recipes!
Thank you Netgalley and Simon Element, S&S/Simon Element for the ARC!
If you're at all familiar with the Noom program, this book will provide little, if any, new information (though I will admit that 'orange' meals were a new concept for me...).
Overall, I found this book to be disappointing. I was hoping for unique and inspiring new recipes, but most of the ones I saw were either so basic that I question why a recipe is needed (roasted chickpeas), or complex and involving a lot of specialized ingredients (which they promised in the intro would not be the case). And so many salads. Don't get me wrong, I like a good salad, but I don't feel like I need multiple recipes for them. Or to see other recipes outside of the salad section then presented on top of a pile of fresh greens, looking suspiciously like another... salad! Surprise!
I also found it odd that they chose to include an assortment of cooking tips in a section at the beginning of the book, many of which would only apply to one recipe. Example: how to wrap bananas in rice paper for the banana loti recipe, included in the final chapter on desserts. Why not include such things closer to the recipe itself so that the reader does not have to page back & forth?
I feel like the ARC was missing a key accessibility feature in that nowhere did I see color indicators for any of the recipes. I could not easily page through the book to find green meals, for example. I even looked to make sure I wasn't missing a label somewhere that was in black & white but indicated the meal color category, but nope. This will likely not be a problem with the final published version, but it's hard to evaluate the book when I can't use one of the features that is core to their philosophy/approach to eating and a major selling point to the book.
I have been for several years now looking for a way to lose the weight. I have talked with my doctor and she said with exercise and a better plan to eat healthier, that I should see the result. In the past I had tried everything and even got interested in doing Noom. But I was a little hesitant like many because so many other options were failures for me. This is where The Noom Kitchen comes into play. I found several recipes that I could adapt into my healthier lifestyle and I am proud to say that I have lost even a few pounds since reading this book. It has helped me understand what I was doing wrong in the kitchen and how to even modify for my food allergies. I will be purchasing this book next year to add to my cookbook collection and use it more than I do the others.
I am not familiar with the noom program and have never used it. There's a brief description of their "philosophy" at the beginning of the book, which is a focus on nutrition density and fiber. This sounded like a good match for me. I'd hoped to get some new ideas...
Overall, I found the recipes too much work! (Note: I am a person who cooks from scratch every single day).
The ingredients lists were very (very) long. For example, there are 18 ingredients in the BLACK BEAN & QUINOA BREAKFAST burritos.
I have been making vegan breakfast for over a decade and do not need 19 different ingredients. The cook time is also 25-35 minutes. One of the reasons I make breakfast burritos is because they only take a couple minutes. It just feels like they made a simple breakfast so hard. The recipe also serves 6. That's quite of breakfast burritos.
Another thing that annoyed me was the recipe-in-a-recipe. Sometimes two recipes were together. For example the Italian wedding soup uses meatballs and the ingredient list and directions for the meatballs is on the same page. However with the Cucumber & Heart of Palm Salad there is the mentioning of a dressing specifically for this salad but it is on another page of the book. There was plenty of white space to include it with the salad and it's not used in another recipe...
As for new ideas, I didn't find many. There might be some if you haven't been cooking or looking at cookbooks or recipes.
Here are some examples of recipes:
breakfast burritos
avocado toast (technically they use a bagel)
chilaqules
granola
chickn noodle soup
smoothies
italian wedding soup
white bean & sausage soup
vegetable soup
tortilla soup
borscht
gumbo
tabbouleh
five-bean salad
BLT
chinese chicken salad
chicken piccata
beef stir-fry
tuna sandwich
shrimp taco
Finally, there aren't a lot of vegan recipes but to be fair, the cookbook doesn't advertise it is vegan or even vegan-friendly. There is a vegetarian section, however, with 8 recipes: cauliflower pizza crust, spiced eggplant steaks, chimichurri cabbage, tofu mango summer rolls, sweet potato shep pie, coconut crusted tofu, broccoli risotto, spinach & feta "hot pockets", veggie patties.
Many of the soups and side dishes could be adapted to be vegan or vegetarian.
I made the cauliflower soup and thought it was clever to use sunflower seeds as the alternative to potatoes or some kind of dairy-cream. If I make it again I think I will swirl in some sunflower seed butter as even with a blendtec, I still felt the soup was a little gritty from the seeds. Perhaps overnight soaking would have helped.
Unfortunately nothing appealed to us except the soup I tried and the Sweet & Spicy Brussel Sprouts however their method of cooking was laborsome and tiring so I just did my usual: put them in the air fryer then tossed them with the "sauce" ingredients. Sadly it was too sweet. I thought 1 tbsp honey (we used maple instead) sounded like a lot on top of gochunung, which already has sugar, but I try not to alter recipes too much when "testing" for a review. I do think I'll dilute gochung with water and toss that over air-fried brussels another time though.
Thanks netgalley for my ARC.
This is a fabulous cookbook. I'd started the Noom program last year but felt confused by the lack of guidance on what foods would really work for me. I'm glad The Noom Kitchen cookbook came out, because it comes with simple, pretty easy recipes that I can use for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. The pictures are vibrant and crisp, and look very appetizing and all of the recipes seem approachable and delicious.
Once I made the Spinach-Artichoke Dip Eggs Benedict, I knew I would be using a lot of recipes in this cookbook. I can't wait for its release so I can bookmark the pages I'll be referencing the most often, and get started cooking out of this book a lot more often.

This was an interesting cookbook - I haven't followed Noom before, so it was interesting to learn their process and see these recipes.
Lots of great sounding recipes, normal pantry items, and thankfully lots of photos to see the dishes.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.
I’m currently a few weeks into using Noom, so this is a helpful resource to have. I’ve already made the Chili Garlicky Eggs, which were a success. Looking forward to making some more tasty recipes!
I was really interested in reviewing this cookbook, I have been constantly hearing advertisements about this company. I even tried the free trial for the app, but it wasn't super memorable and did not want to pay for it. So I had some familiarity on what the cookbook could be. I did read the introduction and I think there was a really good break down on how they help you lose weight. Each recipes is ranked for calorie density. Most of the recipes are very unique and I liked the organization of it. Each recipe has an image and very clear instructions. Overall pretty good if you are using their program already and a nice cookbook for someone looking to lose weight. I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is packed full of recipes. I have always seen the commercials for Noom, so thought I would give this one a try. You get some insight into how their program works with the Noom 101 section. A big plus for me is photos, I need to see what I’m cooking, and this book gives you that! Some recipes I’m excited to try are the Ultimate Vegetable Soup, Lemon Pepper & Parm Chicken Salad, Lentils and Greens with Roasted Tomatoes, Grilled Shrimp & Papaya Salad, Tandoori Shrimp, Glazed Squash with Hazelnuts, and Vanilla Pudding.
Fans of the Noom app and diet will rely on this cookbook. If you haven’t tried Noom but are looking to eat healthier and want to know the hacks the app recommends pick up a copy of the Noom Kitchen. Full of delicious recipes and filling meals plus great photography, this is a cookbook you will turn to for meal times.
This looks like a great collection of interesting recipes! I’m especially excited for some of the vegetarian options!
Nicely written book! Easy to read and understand with great descriptions for people that have never made these types of food. If you want to change what your are eating to be healthier, this would be a good book to use.
I read the NOOM book and it was very interesting I really liked the premis. The cookbook blew me away everything seems so tasty and I tried out a few recipes. I like finding ways to stay healthy in the kitchen and this book takes the cake.
This is a really well done cookbook. It has so many well thought out recipes and beautiful pictures. I love that Noom incorporates a lot of lifestyle changes into their cookbook as well. I can't wait to try some of these recipes. The variety is really wonderful. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
For both Noom users and non-users, "The Noom Kitchen" is a great resource. The variety and dish options are nice and sizable, and they're all quite manageable in any average home kitchen. The cooking steps are easy enough to follow, and the ingredients are mostly easy enough to obtain in any grocery store, which is unfortunately something I don't always see in similar cookbooks. They also all seem to allow for a sizable amount of flexibility. I also particularly appreciated all of the helpful information packed into here in the form of the general (and welcomingly non-judgemental) eating guidelines at the very start, and the specific nutrition information included at the end of every individual recipe.
This is unquestionably excellent addition to one's cookbook library, whether one's going full force on completely overhauling their cooking, or just mixing some healthier new additions into their regular meal rotation.
Thank you to NetGalley for the op poor review this cookbook. I loved how every recipe has a picture of how it should look. The recipes were easy to click though on my phone. While the recipes aren’t very family friendly, they are a great guide on how to eat healthier and lose weight.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Noom Kitchen.
I'm sure you've seen the countless commercials of Noom, the digital health and weight management program that has helped millions lose weight and make the psychological connection between food and behavior change.
When I saw The Noom Kitchen, I was interested to learn more since I'm always looking for ways to improve my eating habits and new, healthy recipes to try.
Wow, was I surprised! But in a good way.
First, there are lots of fun and tasty recipes that anyone can make, even me. You don't have to be a good cook or a chef, you just need to know how to follow the instructions to make a healthy and satisfying meal.
Second, all the ingredients are easy to find, nothing fancy-schmancy or exotic you need to hunt for. You can also customize and/or substitute ingredients in the recipe if you're following a certain diet.
Third, I liked most of the recipes and can see myself making quite a few of them.
Fourth, I liked how a section on soups and side dishes are included because I love both. I don't see many cookbooks that offer a section on soups.
Fifth, and just as important, there are beautiful, in-your-face mouthwatering photos of nearly every recipe! Always a win-win in any cookbook!
The Noom Kitchen is a valuable cookbook to have in your arsenal; you don't have to be watching your weight to want to make the recipes, you just have to want to be a healthier YOU!
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy.
These look like really good. Recipes. I’m interested in learning more about the Noom diet
