This was not a love for me. I felt like there was SO MUCH going on that just was not relevant to the story or ended up just being a plot hole or something I didn’t need to invest in but had questions about.

Meghan Michaels takes her ICU job seriously. Perhaps too seriously in the case of one of her new patients named Caitlin. Caitlin has suffered a brain injury and Meghan becomes very involved in her case. Meanwhile, a singe mother to a teenager, and also very worried about her friend Nat, Meghan’s plate is very full.

This is classic Kubica! Thrilling in every regard, because it is not a domestic thriller. In fact, there is a rapist in town and more than one life could be in jeopardy. So, this is indeed a psychological thriller that will no doubt leave the reader guessing. Whether it is the pacing, the shocking twists, or the riveting conclusion, She’s Not Sorry is a book you won’t want to miss.

Many thanks to Park Row Books and to Edelweiss for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

I love Mary Kubica and her suspenseful thrillers. There is always a wonderful twist and the writing is great. However this novel did not hit as well with me. The first half of the novel had the anxiety producing effect with the main character being concerned around every bend. However this was almost to the point of you wondered how the character even lived her life worrying about every step she took outside of her home. It was a little overdone to me. The ending of the book was also not very satisfying to me, I won’t elaborate as I don’t want to give anything away. While it was a good book, I do not feel it is Kibica’s best effort:

This book was ok but I figured out the plot way too early. It is a fun read but not a great mystery. I have liked her other books a lot more. This book seemed to be done without thinking of a more in depth plot so it is easy to solve the mystery. This is an ok book if you are looking for a light read where you can guess the plot of the whole book after a few chapters.

📖 BOOK REVIEW

🎧 SHE’S NOT SORRY by Mary Kubica
4.5 stars

Genre: thriller
Did I cry: no
Published in 2024

💭: this book was so good. I’m going to keep this very very short bec i think it’s best to know nothing about it to maximize the shock factor but i thoroughly enjoyed this thriller and did not see the ending coming. I had my jaw on the ground for the last 20% ish of the book. Mary kubica writes a GOOD thriller (my first thriller ever was THE GOOD GIRL) and she stays one of my favs of all time🙌🏼 the audio was really good and i def recommend this one.

I liked this story, but find that once I finished it and read another book, I forgot what this one was about.

Brace yourself for Mary Kubica’s latest, She’s Not Sorry, a rollercoaster of twists, tension, and secrets that you won’t see coming! Meghan Michaels is already juggling life as a single mom and ICU nurse when Caitlin—her newest patient with a traumatic brain injury—pulls her into a mystery she never expected. Caitlin’s injuries from a supposed suicide attempt begin to look suspicious, especially when new evidence surfaces. Did Caitlin really jump, or did someone want her dead?

Kubica does a masterful job of keeping us guessing as Meghan becomes dangerously involved, revealing just how thin the line is between helping and harming when no one can be trusted. With every chapter, you feel Meghan’s sense of dread—and her fight to keep herself and her daughter safe from the unseen threat lurking closer each day.

Mary Kubica, the queen of twists! This one had me guessing and second guessing the whole time!
Meghan, an ICU nurse, is caring for a woman that took a fall from a bridge, but no one knows how it happened. Did she jump, was she pushed, why does her family seem so shady? And on top of that, women in her neighborhood keep getting attacked in their homes. I love when thrillers stump me, and this one definitely succeeded!

This was a tough one for me. The writing was not great and the pacing was all over the place. Too much going on at once for me.

How has it taken me this long to read a Mary Kubica novel. I am hooked now! Right from the very first chapter this book had me captivated and I could barely put it down. Every time I thought I figured something out, I was thrown for a loop and I was racing through the book to find the answers. This is a perfect bingeable popcorn thriller and I can’t wait to read more of Kubica’s books.

Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for the gifted copy.

Thank you to netgalley and to the publisher for this ARC. I don't often read mystery novels but the premise of this one seemed interesting! I enjoyed it but probably won't think about it ever again lol

An ICU Nurse accidentally uncovers her patient's frightening past- she's in a coma, seemingly because of an accident, but those around her have their doubts. I liked this one. I thought it had a lot of potential, but too many twists and turns for me, I like twisty, but these were too outlandish to be enjoyable. I also hated how many Chicago references were made- we get it!

Um, this book is bananas! Bonkers in the best way possible!

I could not put it down.

I was reading an advance copy and seriously thought there was a pretty major typo because I was so shocked by the twist I did not see coming. I was convinced there was a mistake in my copy because what I was reading just couldn’t be possible.

And that’s all I’m going to say about this one because you have to experience it yourself.

Okay this one had a lot of promise but suddenly it threw a lot of information at the reader at once. BUT I do have to say I highly enjoyed it. Were some of the reveals a bit over the top? Yes. Did I care? Absolutely not. I just devoured this book and enjoyed every moment.

This was not for me, unfortunately. I just couldn't get into the story, though that could be very different for other readers. I did think the premise was intriguing, however.

Mary Kubica's "She's Not Sorry," offers a gripping premise, psychological tension and loads of family drama. The story revolves around a mother, a daughter, and one shocking event that changes everything and shatters their seemingly perfect lives. The author's ability to create suspense is evident and she keeps readers engaged as the layers of deception unfold. As for the characters, to be honest, I have mixed feelings. While the protagonist is well-developed and relatable, some of the supporting characters felt a bit undercooked or like they lacked depth/development. I just wasn't genuinely emotionally invested. The pacing also fluctuates; certain chapters drag on, while others race by. Sometimes I couldn't wait to pick the book up, and other times I found days going by before I felt like getting back into it. The ending of the story felt a tad rushed, leaving some threads unresolved. I have to say, I really do enjoy Kubica's sharp and evocative writing, but the execution on this one just didn't quite hit the mark. It’s an entertaining read, especially for fans of domestic thrillers, but it may leave some readers wishing for a bit more cohesion and a little less predictability. Overall, it’s a solid addition to her repertoire and deserving of a respectable three stars.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

I feel like Mary Kubic kicked ass and took names in this new She's not Sorry thriller.
I think this is MY ALL TIME FAVORITE of hers! While I read the ARC I did also listen to the audiobook and loved it even more.

I don't want to give too much away, but her talent of writing suspense novels is unprecedented and I'm here for all of it! Again this has one perfect twist that manages to make complete sense but also be something that still takes the reader by surprised. Great job by Kubica!.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this book! This was a decent thriller and one I’d recommend if you’re looking for a good poolside read. I did find the main character a little unlikeable and thought she made interesting decisions (but who doesn’t in a thriller. Not my favorite Kubica, but I’ll keep reading her books.

Unfortunately this one was a DNF for me.
I tried to push through because I loved the authors other book “Local women missing”. This book was super slow, I also felt like she spent so much time describing things that I didn’t need information on?

I truly appreciate being given this arc in exchange for my honest review, thank you NetGalley and to the publishers!
