I did not read the author's previous books, but this one, one could tell was a work of joy and it brought joy to this reader. A Romcom in a Romcom, like the Droste effect, (yes I had to look that up). Screen writer Emmy Harper writes Romcoms. She is a nepotism baby (I had to look that one up too). Her parents were a A-list couple, think Newman and Woodward, who sheltered her from the limelight as much as possible. She made her first and last film when she was fifteen and her leading man was seventeen year old Grayson West. She immediately had a crush on him, dreaming a HEA like her parents, but was crushed when she overheard hm make a careless remark and it showed on the film, which bombed. But it becomes apparent that she needs to brush off her acting skills to play the female lead and of course since it is a Romcom, Grayson is cast as the male lead. Secrets and poor communication sabotaged them in their youth, but they have their second chance. Will they learn from their previous mistakes?

I enjoyed this fun Romcom, with all the required elements of a romcom: cute enemy to lovers couple, best friend, other shoe dropping when the romance is going strong and a HEA. I read a gifted Advanced Reader's Copy provided by NetGalley.com. This is my honest, non biased, voluntary review.

Enemies-to-lovers, but make it Hollywood with a dash of Hallmark. This was an enjoyable and light read, but was lacking depth in the supporting cast for me.

If you like romcom books I HIGHLY recommend Falon Ballard. She absolutely deserves to be up there in the contemp romance pupularity with Christina Lauren, Ali Hazelwood, and Emily Henry. All of her books are so cute in the very best cheesy way and I find it so comforting, and really helps me get out of reading slumps! Love love love!

I initially gave Right On Cue three stars, but after reading some notes I kept I actually give it FOUR STARS.
Emmy Harper has to step out of her director role to act in her new movie. She already isn't psyched about it but is double irritated when she has to act along side her arch nemesis Grayson West.

Look, I read a lot of romance and knew this was going to be an Enemies to Lovers scenario but that complete and total vehemence Emmy showed through the first third of this book. Yikes. I genuinely got worried Grayson would not warm up to her. Tbh I also found our main girl very annoying throughout most of the book. Honestly that's the main reason I knocked a star, she was just so obnoxious.
Grayson, though? SWOON. My new book boyfriend! I love him! Grayson is so sweet and playful and charming!

Right On Cue combines some of the best subgenres/tropes in romance. Enemies to Lovers, cozy winter cabin, forced proximity, he falls first. Such a good read!

3.5 stars

This book was fun and I liked the history between the two characters. But the miscommunication was so bad and basically the same thing happened twice and it was so annoying. Emmy learned nothing from what happened when they were teenagers and eavesdropping on conversation. It was rough.

*Thank you netgalley and Putnam

I'm glad I read the preface "This one's for me" before beginning the book. I think it lowered my expectations just a bit, just in the way that this book wasn't for anyone but her so it might not have some of the typical elements that I love in books. This book was filled with some of my favorite tropes—enemies to lovers and forced proximity. I did enjoy our characters but their miscommunication was something else and so unnecessary. The pacing felt a little odd and inconsistent but overall I did enjoy the plotline and our characters.

Right On Cue by Fallon Ballard
⭐️⭐️⭐️

Copy and paste enemies to lovers who reconcile after a falling out and you’ll have Right On Cue. If you’re a Rom Com fan, then this is definitely something you’ll enjoy. I just found it’s not anything revolutionary. The one difference compared to others is essentially the “fake dating” trope shining through a bit as both of the main characters are in a Rom Com film together. It was interesting to see that through the lens of a film being made. I did feel when Emmy and Grayson finally admitted their feelings for each other, when they finally made up after their misunderstanding, and the events that took place in the epilogue were pretty lackluster. I felt like there was a lot of chemistry lacking in these moments and it just felt uninspiring. I also couldn’t help but cringe at the amount of times I read “Grayson fucking West” throughout the book. The author definitely tried using this as a way to emphasize how the main character was feeling but to me it felt unnecessary. I can appreciate how the author was proving emphasis on the capabilities men have with feelings.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for a copy of this ARC in exchange for my honest review. If you’re a lover of Rom Coms or maybe even newer to them, I definitely would say it’s worth a read. This book is also available now!

A Hollywood Romance AND Second Chance Romance AND a book by the incredible Falon Ballard?!?!? What's not to love?
I loved this second chance and enemies to lovers romance. Ballard sure does know how to write a binge worthy book filled with allllllll the tension. This book made me laugh and swoon and the only complaint I had was that I wouldn't have liked more!

Was excited for this one since I really loved Lease on Love by Ballard. This one had a very different feel and although I enjoyed it overall, I felt like it was missing something. I always love romances when they have depth and I feel that this one lacked that. I couldn’t relate to the main character at all (she’s literally an A-list Hollywood nepo baby) so I immediately felt disconnected. Her past ‘trauma’ when it came to acting felt so insignificant and she could’ve easily overcome it.

I felt the romance was way too rushed and I didn’t feel the deeper connection between the two of them. There’s also nothing I hate more than the miscommunication trope and that plays a big role in this plot. Big parts of this book just felt a bit unrealistic. I did love the setting and getting a peek into the movie world was fun, but wasn’t enough to make me love this book.

Right on cue had me reading all night long, I needed to get to the end and see what happened! This book was so so good, but my onw big wish for romance novels is that we got more details on the emotional subplots. Why mention all of the characters inner turmoil and then not dive deeper?? Also, the third act conflict was a little cliché, which then rushed the ending, but it didn't ruin anything. Overall, it was a good read, but could have been better.

3 stars!

This was cute. This was sweet. But honestly the whole time I was wondering why she liked the male love interest because he was just rude and I'm glad she could get over that, but I couldn't. Then we mix in the third act breakup and I felt once again reaffirmed that he sucked. It's hard for me to love a book when I'm not rooting for the couple unfortunately, and I'm not sure how much this romance book will stick with me.

Thak you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I loved this authors previous books but this one was lacking the same spark as the others. The characters were unlikeable and immature and the third act breakup was frustrating

Reading the healing of Emmy while she takes a huge leap of faith into doing film again, then the cast imploding when Grayson West enters the set is interesting and catches your attention quickly. This is a fun and easy read that is a Hallmark movie in the making. It's a feel good, but not slow read that you can enjoy relaxing on a beach somewhere.

This book wasn't for me. The plot of the book sounds interesting and I can see why others would enjoy the book.

The story felt drawn out and repetitive constantly discussing their first movie, how it ruined her and how he isn't hitting his lines. I enjoyed the news articles thrown in and how the author details the scenes being shot in the movie.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

This was a really cute enemies to lovers trope. Emily Harper writes rom-coms and Grayson West is her nemesis since they were 15. However, Grayson has been in love with Emmy since. Emmy thought he ruined her screen career and she had hated him ever since. Unfortunately, they are forced to work together on her most recent rom-com due to an accident with the leading character. Multiple takes and a come to Jesus talk with her best friend and producer leads them to a costars with benefits. Well as you can imagine the "benefits" turn into something more but that is all up for grabs when Emmy overhears part of a conversation and takes it the wrong way. This is a really cute quick read.

Right on Cue is an enemies to lovers, second chance (ish) romance between two leading actors of a highly anticipated rom com.

Emmy Harper, a former actress turned screenwriter, steps into the spotlight again when her new film has trouble finding the perfect leading lady. When the lead actor is pulled from the project due to an injury, Grayson West steps in to play the male lead.

This was such a quick and cute romance. I felt like it was a bit predictable but it was still enjoyable. I loved the banter and the enemies to lovers trope. I felt like the beginning started off slow but once it took off it was a fun read. The spice was great, the banter was amazing, and their growth was so fun to follow. The conflict in the third act was frustrating and didn’t make a lot of sense. Emmy became a bit insufferable for most of the last quarter of the book. The ending seemed to be cut short, but it was still very cute.

This book is adorable. I thought I was going to be split at first, but it turned out really cute. It has a third act break up, which is not my thing, but as it's a HEA, you know they'll get back together. The pacing is fine and you really grow to like both characters and 100% see why the FMC is completely worked up over my MMC because of their history. Friends to Crushes to enemies to lovers to enemies again. And they're coworkers. My biggest gripe is some of the industry things, but that's coming from someone who works directly in the industry. Marketing team interviews on set was actually the unit publicist, referring to some of the interviews when it was a creative content day, the MCs not having personal publicists and the studio they're with not providing the studio publicist? Even on the carpet?? Again - little nuanced things that only someone who works directly in the industry would pick up. If you don't work in the industry, I think it would be fine because you wouldn't pick up on those things.

Would def reread again and I was ready to when I finished it.

Falon Ballard's newest romantic comedy features enemies to lovers romance, and it's a fun read! Due to circumstances beyond her control, Hollywood screenwriter Emmy Harper is forced to star in her own romantic comedy movie. This wouldn't be so awfully bad for Emmy, until she realizes who the male lead in the film will be...one Grayson West. Emmy blames Grayson for her disastrous performance in the first film she was in and still harbors a lot of hurt and resentment from their last run in. Now they are forced to work together closely, and soon they are revealing hard truths and growing closer than either of them anticipated. This would make a great Netflix film, and I really enjoyed the banter between Emmy and Grayson.
