Nick Shaw opens his heart to reveal the profound life lessons he's learned from his three sons, with a focus on his oldest, William, whose untimely death serves as the setting for this powerful memoir.

While Shaw's story commences with the unimaginable tragedy of losing his son, it transcends the realm of grief to explore the broader canvas of life itself. "My Teacher, My Son" is not only about bereavement. It's a life-affirming guide that explores complex themes like authenticity, letting go, presence, and the pursuit of connection, transcending personal boundaries to encompass universal human experiences.

Shaw exceptionally navigates the sharp contrasts of life. Heartbreaking and hopeful, insightful and inspirational, he takes us through the rollercoaster of emotions with an unflinching honesty that is courageous and beautiful. Shaw's introspection lays bare the profound impact of a father's love and a son's enduring legacy, weaving an account that is as much an exploration of the self as it is a tribute to the son.

The book unfolds with the tragic skiing accident that claimed the life of Shaw's nine-year-old son, William, on a seemingly perfect day at Big Sky, Montana. It is in the aftermath of this devastating loss that the phrase "my teacher, my son" emerges as a signal of understanding. Shaw's realization that his son had been a silent and powerful instructor in the art of living became the pillar of this memoir. In sharing this epiphany, Shaw takes readers on a journey of resilience and wisdom, unveiling the unspoken lessons his son imparted throughout his life and beyond.

"My Teacher, My Son" is a guidebook for those searching to regain clarity and control in the face of life's inevitable challenges -- personal and professional. Shaw's own experiences as an executive coach play a pivotal role in his ability to navigate the complex landscape of grief, offering a roadmap for readers to overcome adversity. His story illustrates how life provides us with the tools we need to triumph over hardship, and it encourages us to honor the past, embrace the present, and embrace the future with an open heart and a receptive mind.

Beautiful, moving, poignant story about how grief/deathteaches us how we want to live. I was so inspired by this story and was highlighting thoughts to carry with me. I loved how each of the chapters began with a poem that the author wrote about his son and his experience with his death, so powerful. Life transforming read that you can get through in a few hours but one that will stay with you, loved it!
