When my two sons were young in the 1990's they got into the Goosebump series. R.L. Stine still seems to enjoy scaring kids in the 2020's with Goosebumps House of Shivers. A little bit gross, a little bizarre and with a slow road to scary with goblins of course, he offers readers of all ages a quirky new story.
I received an advanced reader's copy of Goblin Monday from the publisher via Netgalley. R.L.Stine still has a great sense of the bizarre and kid-friendly horror. The main character, Mario travels to Vermont with the family of school friends on winter break. He is so excited to get to experience his first actual snow. When he starts observing strange things going on it just may be too late.
This book is a bit more intense than the early Goosebump stories. There are missing parents (for a short time), gross activity and violence. As an older adult it was comical to me. I liked it. If a parent is questioning it for their child, read it first. That's what I did. I would have let my 10 and up reader enjoy it. It wouldn't be for my 8-year-old granddaughter yet. She is very tender hearted toward birds.

What’s most amazing about R.L. Stine isn’t the prodigious amount he has published, but rather how engrossing it continues to be!
I read this quick book in one sitting, because I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. I won’t give details because this is a fun, scary world better explored by your own imagination. I found it wonderful!
Thanks to Scholastic and NetGalley for granting access to a digital ARC.

I actually enjoyed this book more than the first one in the series.
In this one, Mario visits Vermont (represent!) with his friends Todd and Jules. They are visiting Todd and Jules's grandparents Grandpa Tweety (because he likes birds) and MomMom. Grandpa Tweety is an author and loves writing about faeries and gremlins and stuff like that. One morning, the kids and Grandpa Tweety go for a morning walk. On the way back, Mario is attacked by a little green thing. He thinks it's a goblin. But no one believes him. Todd and Jules's parents also go on a walk but don't come home and there is a snowstorm. Can Mario get anyone to believe that he saw a goblin? And why is there a whole closet full of little outfits with holes for tails in MomMom's knitting room?
Sometimes I feel like RL Stine's books are so short, they feel a little rushed. This one didn't. It felt like a whole story that was nicely paced. I was interested to see if Mario could get anyone to believe him and how much the grandparents knew, because it was obvious they knew something.
The ending of RL Stine books are usually very standard and then at the last second they are very open ended. In this one, there is a huge twist that I loved at the end and it wasn't left as open ended as others. I liked this small change, I feel like it will keep me on my toes for any other books I read by him.

I thought this was fantastic! Definitely makes me think of the original series of Goosebumps. I can't wait to see more for this series

This was another excellent addition to the Goosebumps formula we know and love. Like i have said before I read these books from the lens of being a middle grade reader and in doing so I get to read and enjoy a book that was not written for my age demographic. I really enjoyed the characters and the twists it threw at me. I think if anything it ended a little abruptly and I could have used a bit more from the story. I really like the direction the House of Shivers is going in as a Goosebumps sister series. Please buy this series for your kids. Give them the RL Stine childhood we had as kids.

Who doesn’t like a goblin story set in the winter? ❄️ this was fun. I think people who love RL Stine & enjoy YA will like this one. It’s a quick read and it’s a great story for an actual young adult reader to get into semi spooky or fantasy books.

I have always loved R.L. Stine books and this was no different. If I explain some of the story I will give it away so I don’t want to do that. If you enjoy R.L. Stine you will LOVE this book.

Thank you to the Author, Netgalley, and Scholastic Publishers! It was an honor to ARC read this book for you. I will definitely be recommending this book! I was not paid to ARC read this book and it is my honest review.

When Mario is invited by his friends Jewel and Todd to go to their grandparents house in Vermont he couldn’t be more excited! Mario is from Florida and has never seen snow before. He can’t wait to play in the snow and experience things like sledding for the first time. The only problem is Grandpa Tweety and MomMom are a bit kooky. Grandpa Tweety writes books about Goblins and fairies while MomMom loves to make stew and sing songs that no one else knows. Mario starts to notice things are not what they seem, but no one believes him.

I love R.L.Stine and am always interested to read new work by him. I know as a kid I would have had a ball with this book. The story was intriguing and spooky but nothing that would give you nightmares as a child. Reading it as an adult I felt the ending was a bit rushed, but it did follow the classic Goosebumps one two punch. Something eerie and unpredictable for the kids.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

I'm having some childhood nostalgia reading this. R.L. Stine still excels at writing creepy horror for the 9-14 age range. It built tension throughout the story and there were plenty of chapter cliffhangers throughout that kept me turning the page. The suspense is perfect for the age range. It's that tingling on the back of your neck that you know something is wrong but you can't quite figure out how wrong it is. I will say I found the newer book just a tad gorier from what I remember from middle school (I am 36 now so it's possible I'm remembering wrong or looking through the lens of a parent who's kid is almost ready for these. I'd let him read these in the next year or so though) and I found the twist near the end a little silly and not as plausible. I think that detail is why it is 4 stars and not 5 for me. I always appreciated that while the monsters might not be real, the kid the experience was happening to was believable and just like me. I think that is what made it scarier and this twist took away from that for me.

Overall, I still love the easy readability for this age group and how the author creates tension. It's a great continuation of an amazing collection.

Goblin Monday is a great follow up to the House of Shivers #1: Scariest. Book. Ever. I am enjoying the new Goosebumps series. The story is intriguing and keeps you guessing right up until the end. It includes the classic twists and turns you expect from R.L. Stine. The characters are interesting and add to the story. Fans of Goosebumps will love this book. I highly recommend it!

As a person who has loved Goosebumps since I was a child, I was so excited to receive the arc of this. This book was a very fun and quick read. It is a straightforward read for children ages 8-11. I will definitely be purchasing this book for my little cousins when it is published.

Mario is going on a vacation with his neighbors to visit their grandparents in Vermont. Where there will be snow and he's excited to see snow for the first time. But things start to become weird and he's not sure what's real or fake anymore.

Reading this as an adult, this book was a fast read with an okay plot that wrapped up at the end. ( I actually enjoyed the plot twist ) But the writing is very simple and hard to overlook.

However, seeing as this is intended for kids, this would be right up their alley and easy to get into for them, which is the whole point. So, definitely worth getting for your kids to enjoy and read.

The inverse of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘺 𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘞𝘰𝘭𝘧.

Ever felt like you saw something and your entire family doesn’t believe you? At sight of little gremlins, Mario tries to prove to his family that they exist, over and over again to a very startling end.

Lots of fun, keeps you on your toes, and perfect for the holidays when you’re in and around family. Will make you distrust your relatives a bit more. As you should, kiddos 👀 👀 👀

Because honestly, the adults at Scholastic are keeping you from reading ALL books. Books are for EVERYONE. It’s the everythingness about books that provide education not just in your educational life, but your 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 life. Read everything. Don’t let censorship stop you. Adults don’t know any better than you. Believe me. They’re experiencing life for the first time just as much as you are.

Read everything.

This is a good book for middle school age kids to read. The story was interesting but the ending felt almost rushed as though there was a set number of pages to be hit and the set up had taken longer than planned so the ending had to be forced to end faster than planned.

Growing up I loved reading Goosebumps. So when I received this digital copy I was very excited. This story was fun, slightly graphic (which I love) and a little silly. Reading about Mario and his friends adventure brought me back to being a kid. Loved the storyline, the characters (especially Grandpa Tweety and Grandma MomMom) and everything in between. Thank you NetGalley, R.L. Stine and Scholastic for this fun and entertaining digital copy.

Goblin Monday follows the same format as every other Goosebumps story, which in a way, hindered my enjoyment. The story was generic and I saw basically everything coming. I will say that there was one little twist I did not think about so that was nice. Overall, if you like Goosebumps give it a try, but so far between the first book in this series and this one, I don’t have a lot of hope for the rest of the series.

This is what you expect from an R.L Stine Goosebumps book. I really had fun with this one. It was engaging and thrilling, and kept me guessing until the end. Young readers who enjoy a thrill or something creepy will love this!

This book was really difficult to get into. Picked this book from childhood nostalgia and goosebumps. Was good in some parts and disappointing in others. Honestly predictable and hard to get through. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Growing up I LOVED RL Stine. I requested this book on nostalgia. I'm happy to say I was not disappointed one bit. There are a few mini twists that are appropriate for middle school readers. Overall, the book was fun. It brought back memories about why I enjoy RL Stine.
The story starts off simple enough following a family during their move and sure enough shenanigans presume.
I absolutely recommend this book. Thank you RL Stine and NetGalley for reminding me why I love the horror genre.
