I gave this book four stars at first but have since marked it down to three stars after discussing it in my book club. I had some problems with how the two main characters treated each other and I wonder if the relationship would actually make it.

This was a very enjoyable book. I don’t typically love fame as a trope, but that wasn’t too heavy-handed until near the end. Charlie got on my nerves in a couple of instances, and information was gained too often through eavesdropping but, overall, the story was very charming and more emotional than expected. I really liked the characters too.

This was a great book that was very fun and easy to read. I really enjoyed reading this one. Thank you very much.

This is a cute rom-com with a mild enemies-to-lovers plot that really made me a true lover of all things Katherine Center. Charlie is a screenwriter who has been tasked with the daunting task of writing a rom-com script. And even though he is a super successful writer, he doesn't have what it takes for this project - which brings us to Emma Wheeler. Emma is an aspiring screenwriter who probably would have done well if not for having to take care of her ailing father. All of her screenwriting has been as a ghostwriter, and even though she has dreams of making it big, she isn't able to get there until the day she accepts the job of a lifetime: helping the grumpy loner Charlie with his rom-com story. The one major problem is that Charlie doesn't believe in love. Can Emma help Charlie finally begin to believe in order to save his script?
I fell for these two characters immediately. I am such a sucker for enemies-to-lovers and watching these two work through their issues together was exactly what I needed. Center really nailed their chemistry and their choices to help make each other better. I absolutely where Center took this story, she really is very good at writing banter and being able to pull at the heart strings.
I was enraptured from the beginning and can't wait to read more from her!

Such a cute story! The slow burn and minimal spice was perfect! Katherine Center does it again!!! A unique story line keeping on my toes

4.5 starts, rounded up. I had a hard time getting into this one initially, and I'm not quite sure why. Once I was hooked, however, I was HOOKED. The final few pages, which talk about finding and being a good partner, were my absolute favorite part of the book.

Emma has been taking care of her father who has needed full-time care since he was in a rock-climbing accident that killed their mother ten years ago. When Emma’s agent friend calls her with an opportunity to write a screenplay with her favorite writer ever, she feels like maybe it’s time to step out of her comfort zone. Except when she gets to LA, Charlie Yates had no idea she was coming and wants nothing to do with “a failed, nobody screenwriter.” Charlie can write anything except a #romcom and that’s all Emma loves to write. As the two spend six weeks rewriting a love story, perhaps they will realize they’re in the middle of their own.

Y’all know @katherinecenter is my new obsession with adult romance right now and I think I’ve been able to pin down why. She writes her characters and their experiences in such a unique way—nothing seems cut and paste from other #romancebooks I’ve read. They are deeply flawed individuals with quirks, dreams, personality traits, experiences, etc. that make them feel like real people. Also love that she’s a TX writer. The audiobook for this was also done very well.
CW: parental death (recounted), injury, hospitalization, medical content, car accident, terminal illness, cancer, panic attack (on page), alcohol, grief, chronic illness, toxic friendship, abandonment, misogyny, sexual harassment, classism

The Rom-Commers was such a joyful and heartwarming read that instantly lifted my spirits. I loved the witty humor and relatable characters who felt like real people navigating life and love. The story’s blend of romance and comedy was perfectly balanced, making it both fun and emotionally satisfying. It was the kind of book that left me smiling long after I turned the last page.

I seriously think that every new Katherine Center book is my new favorite. This one is so good! I love the characters and their banter is on point!! This one is so so good!

This book was great! I really enjoyed the story and how there was never a time where I wasn’t intrigued on what would happen next! Loved every minute of it

Not Center's best, IMO. It started losing me but the wrap up brought it all back. Cute, charming, and simple

this was a solid 4 star for me, almost a 4.5. If you know me, you know I love an enemies to lovers, so this was right up my alley. And a romcom about writing a romcom, such a fun concept !
Emma was an fmc you wanted to root for. She was sweet and had given up so much for her family. Then Charlie is a bit of an ass, coming across egotistical. I loved the way their relationship developed, feeling like such a natural progression from enemies to lovers. The way she was teaching him about what is involved in a romcom, and watching these things actually play out between them was perfect.
I really liked the themes in this one, grief and anxiety, but the message behind it about believing in yourself and taking these leaps of faith was really well done.
I mainly read this one on audio, and it was such an easy listen. I would definitely recommend the audio as I binged it in 24 hours. Centers writing is so enjoyable and easy to follow, and I look forward to reading more from her.

I will read anything that Katherine Center writes. Relatable characters and a story that made me laugh and cry. An easy read with surprising depth of plot.

Emma Wheeler desperately longs to be a screenwriter. She’s spent her life studying, obsessing over, and writing romantic comedies―good ones! She’s also been the sole caretaker for her kind-hearted dad, who needs full-time care. Now, when she gets a chance to re-write a script for famous screenwriter Charlie Yates, her hero, it’s a break too big to pass up.
Emma moves to L.A. for six weeks for the writing gig of a lifetime. Charlie Yates doesn’t want to write with anyone. He doesn't believe in love. But Emma’s not going down without a fight. She will convince him that love stories matter? What if real life turns out to be so much . . . more real than fiction? What if the love story they’re writing breaks all Emma’s rules―and comes true?

Katherine Center is an auto-buy author for me, and that won't be changing after The Rom-Commers. As a fan of romcom films myself, I really enjoy when a plot takes place within that world.

Katherine Center continues to be one of my favorite rom com authors! She is great at writing characters that keep make you feel like they are your friends.
I felt like this was very much a grumpy/sunshine trope and it happens to be one of my favorites!
I do wish her books had just a tiny bit of spice.
I will be buying this book now!

I absolutely loved this book! Katherine Center is becoming one of my go-to authors! I haven't read anything by her that wasn't amazing! I loved the characters, the storyline and the writing style of this one. I will highly recommend this one!

Review of The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Is it cliche to say that The Rom-Commers is one of my favorite rom-coms ever? With a title like that and an author like Katherine Center, how can it not?! It had me grinning, swooning, and crying (looking at you, Chapter 30). Like all Katherine Center books - I devoured this one!
Katherine Center never misses when it comes to delivering witty banter, emotional depth, and a satisfying happily-ever-after. The chemistry between Emma and Charlie? Off the charts. The sexual tension built so naturally that I was practically yelling at the book for them to just kiss already! The miscommunication trope will always have me screaming at the pages to just TALK to each other but it definitely helps build everything up because what really got me was the emotional gut-punch in Chapter 30. I may have dropped a few tears. No shame.
As always, Center crafts characters that feel like people you know - flawed, relatable, real. Characters who go through the same grief, loss, and trauma that we experience. The plot kept me turning pages late into the night, and the emotional payoff was totally worth it. If you’re a fan of romance with humor, heart, and a little bit of heartbreak that gets beautifully healed, The Rom-Commers is a must-read to add to your TBR list!

I want to start by saying that the premise of this book was incredibly promising, and I genuinely wanted to love it. Unfortunately, I’ve come to realize that I just don’t seem to connect with Katherine’s writing style, though that may be more of a personal preference than a reflection on the book itself.
The story begins on a strong note. Emma is an aspiring screenwriter who has yet to catch her big break. She’s also the full-time caregiver for her father and struggles to share that responsibility with her sister, burdened by guilt over the accident that left him injured. When a close friend offers her the chance to work alongside a screenwriter she’s long admired, Emma decides to take the leap with the encouragement of her friends and family.
Despite the compelling setup, I struggled with the characters. Charlie came across as cold and, frankly, mean-spirited. I never found myself rooting for him, and I couldn’t connect with their dynamic as a couple. Emma, while portrayed in a caretaking role, treated her sister harshly and at times came off as manipulative toward Charlie. I found it hard to empathize with her or believe in the longevity of their relationship.
Overall, while the plot had real potential, the character development and romantic arc just didn’t land for me.

Read this in like, less than 24 hours. Just a fun ride, and I loved all the movie/screenplay mentions. And the chemistry was there, for sure (though, for a romance, this was fairly tame - more about the emotional connection and the individuals then about any steam).
