This picture book biography is written about Tenzing Norgay, one of the first people to climb Mount Everest. The story begins with his childhood and how he raised yaks and looked up at the mountain looking forward to one day climbing it. The book follows Tenzing as he grows up and achieves his dream. The story ends with a timeline and some pictures/biographical information about him.

Each page has beautiful, colour-filled pages with 3-4 lines of text. There is a lot of great biographical information, but it also follows a story that will hook young readers. I believe this book would be best fit for children in the 7-11 age range. As a grade 3 teacher I could definitely see this book in my classroom library in the future!

I loved this wonderful picture book about the life of Tenzing Norgay, the Nepalese Sherpa who reached the summit of Everest with Sir Edmund Hilary in 1953. I enjoyed the beautiful illustrations that accompanied his story and I loved learning about him, as when I was growing up I only ever heard Sir Edmund Hilary’s name connected with Mount Everest, but never Tensing Norgay. It think it’s wonderful that he’s finally getting the recognition that he so rightly deserves and so of course I highly recommend this book!

I'd heard of Norgay, of course, but knew very little about him or his history. I like that this book introduces us to a complete person, not just the function he served on a famous expedition.

Tenzing Norgay grew up near the Himalayas and daydreamed about climbing to the top while tending his family's yaks. He grew up and learned how to be a Sherpa and help other climbers. He was 39 when he became one of the first two people to finally reach the summit of Chomolungma, the mountain we know as Everest.

This is a great introduction to this brave man who pursued and reached his dream. The illustrations are vibrant and this is another great entry in this series.

Ding. Norgay was a mountain climber. He started out as a child who just loved to look at Mount Everest and knew that that it was his mountain. He was the Sherpa helping Edward Hilary reach the top of Mount Everest. It took 20 years, but he did it. This is when I think Little People Big dreams is at its best. When it introduces us to people that are not in standard school history books.

This is yet another book in the excellent "Little People Big Dreams" series, and once again it's a wonderful addition. I love how the author often uses her books to focus on important people that are not well-known, and this does not disappoint, giving a look into a culture that is unknown to most of us. As always, the illustrations are wonderful and the book ends with a biography with a few more details of Norgay's life. Highly recommend!

A picture book biography of the adventurous Nepalese man and Sherpa who became one of the first men to summit Everest with Edmund Hilary.

It is great that Tenzing Norgay has been getting the notoriety and fame equal to Hilary in recent years. I’ve read things about his adult accomplishments before, but never about him as a young man. I liked that this shed some background on how he ended up becoming a Sherpa and also included what he did after his summit. I didn’t know he started a school for Sherpas. That was cool to learn. The illustrations in this are stunning, I love the artwork! An excellent addition to the Little People Big Dreams series. It is hard to find books about famous Nepalese, so this is a great addition to any library.

A wonderful addition, it was interesting to read about the man who conquered Everest with Edmund Hilary, and to read about Norgay's life long ambitions. Tenzing Norgay is not necessarily a name people will know, and I really like how this series often focuses on people we should all know about.

Great detail, wonderful illustrations, a perfect addition to the series.

I love this series. I learned so much about Norgay. There is an excellent message to not give up. The biography at the end gives a few more details for readers to understand.

This is a great children's book from the Little People, Big Dreams series, which is an amazing, educational series of books, focusing on inspirational people in the world.

This book focuses on Tenzing Norgay, who was a mountaineer who was born in Nepal. He was awarded the Star of Nepal and the Padma Bhushan for his good work, and he also taught children mountaineering skills. He even established a trekking company that still helps people climb the Himalayas to this day. What an inspiration!

I found this book really interesting, and I really enjoyed looking at the beautiful illustrations in the book, as well as the informative text sections and photographs at the end of the book.

This series of Little People, Big Dreams books is hugely popular in my class and school and we have bought all of them. They are easy to read, accessible for all and most of all a really interesting way to learn about a diverse range of great figures in history.
I was excited when I saw this one was being released as it fits perfectly with our study of Everest. It captures the strong link between Tenzing and Chomalungma/Everest and shows how determined he is that he will get to the top one day. A brilliant read and we have already preordered it

Summary by my daughter: This was a story about a brave boy who dreamed of climbing Mount Everest. When he was seven, Tenzing Norgay heard of a group of men going to climb Mount Everest. He wanted to join, but he was too young. He tried again when he was older, but he wasn't picked. He tried a third time, and he wasn't picked first, but then two other people were needed. He was then noticed for his smile and was asked to join the climb. Of course he said yes! He and the other men started climbing, but only Tenzing and another man were able to climb to the tip-top. They placed a flag and Tenzing came down the mountain a hero.

This was another lovely Little People, Big Dreams book. Our family loves these books because they are short but interesting and often inspiring, as was the case with Tenzing Norgay's story. I highly recommend this book and others in the series for young readers to explore biographies and history.

I really love the Little People, BIG DREAMS, series, especially when I come upon a person that I know little or nothing about. I think everyone heard of Edmund Hillary being the first person to summit Mt. Everest, but I had not heard of Tenzing Norgay, the Sherpa guide who made it possible. Tenzing grew up in the shadow of what they knew as Chomolungma. He wanted to climb to the top into the sky, so when he heard about people from around the world wanting to climb it, he moved to Darjeeling to try and join an expedition. It took a couple of years before he was added to a team. After many attempts, he finally made it to the summit on his 7th try, accompanying Edmund Hillary. This is what I love about this series. A young boy with a dream who works hard and doesn't give up, finally realizing that dream. His story didn't end there and he became a teacher, instructor and to a degree a philanthropist to young boys who wanted to follow in his footsteps. I enjoyed the timeline and actual photos in the back and did go out on the internet and do a bit of research on my own, which is what I hope others will do after they read this book and others in this series. Bandana Tulachan illustrates this book with the quirky, whimsical style that this series is known for. I would have liked Norgay to look more like a Sherpa than a dark skinned European, but overall the illustrations add to the story

What a wonderful book, the illustrations are so beautiful and it's such a heart warming story. I love that the Nepalese name for Mount Everest was used too!

This series is great. One thing I like about this book in particular is that it not only uses Everest, but the Tibetan word for the mountain as well.

This is a fantastic addition to the 'Little People, Big Dreams' series. Anyone who learns about Everest, should also learn about the amazing sherpa who overcame so many setbacks to be one of the first to reach the summit on that momentous day in history. This is will be a super additional reading opportunity for our mountains topic.

Tenzing Norgay was a mountaineer who accompanied Edmund Hilary to be the first people to summit Mount Everest. This book forms part of the Little People, Big Dreams series which aims to introduce children to inspirational people of all different professions.

I loved the illustrations in this book and thought they really added to the story. The story was told in a really clear and concise way but I liked the way there was also a recommendation for a longer book at the end if you wanted to find out more. There was only one sentence per page which means this book is accessible to a wide range of ages.

Overall I enjoyed learning about someone I'd never heard of before and I loved the illustration and how the information was presented in this book!
