Throughout his Indian Lake trilogy, Stephen Graham Jones has established the atmospheric mood through its opening chapter. This one is an absolute banger of an opening as it feels so right to be dropped into Proofrock, Idaho, on Friday the 13th, in a graveyard, in October. From there, the Angel of Indian Lake doesn’t let up and is relentless, absorbing, and a completely well-designed final entry to the Indian Lake trilogy. As Jade returns home to Proofrock four years after the events of “Don’t Fear the Reaper,” she finds herself in the midst of not one supernatural being, the Angel of Indian Lake, haunting the town, but numerous human villains as well. Just like another famous trilogy that decided to rebuild the Death Star in its last act, this final book sees another attempt to rebuild Terra Nova as Jade and her friends have to confront the town’s past and her legacy as a final girl. Give this book all the accolades because Jones concludes the series with an incredibly strong last act that should make all fans of the first two novels very happy with the conclusion. By the end of the book, I can definitely say it is my favorite horror trilogy I’ve ever read, and Jade and Letha will go down with Sidney, Laurie, and Nancy on the Mount Rushmore of Final Girls.
