This is the third in the series, and having read them all, I like them very much as Austen sequels, but they leave something to be desired as mysteries. Not enough actually *happens* in each one. The investigations of Jonathan and Juliet never accumulate evidence, and as soon as they get a lead, something else almost immediately negates it. In this book, I knew who the attempted murderer was right away, but our heroes just sort of treaded water pointlessly for half the book.

The non-mystery components are far more captivating. The marriage of Anne De Bourgh and Colonel Fitzwilliam is poignantly compelling; the adult friendship between Lizzie and Charlotte, never quite the same as in youth, is realistic and wistful. I quite liked Mr Tilney and hope to see more of him and his wife in future installments. Seeing Darcy and Elizabeth negotiate a real adult bond is fully rewarding, especially as a reader well past the first blush of youth and its attendant infatuations. Lizzie speaks well when she says “You mistake the matter if you believe that the mark of a good marriage is the absence of repair. Even the best of us, with the finest ideals and purest intentions, will cause harm where we would least wish to do so. Even those we love best will at times fail us as we have failed them. No, I would say that the mark of a good marriage is regular, sincere repair of the inevitable injured feelings that must arise on occasion between any two persons so intimately connected.” That’s the sort of thing that makes these books worth reading, far more than the mysteries.

Many fans of Pride and Prejudice have probably dreamed of Lady Catherine de Bourgh getting her comeuppance for her cruel treatment of Elizabeth. In the third novel of the series, Jonathan Darcy and Juliet Tilley are summoned by Lady Catherine to catch her would-be murderer. Interestingly, in addition to this investigation, Jonathan and Juliet also have to deal with the news that their previous investigation had resulted in the murderer being executed for his crimes. Throughout the novel, several characters make significant life decisions. Will Jonathan and Juliet ever be reunited?

Jonathan Darcy and Miss Tilney are invited to Lady Catherine's estate to help solve the mystery of who is trying to kill Lady Catherine. Jonathan Darcy and Miss Tilney arrive at the estate, along with their fathers, to begin their investigation. The mystery itself was pretty good! I enjoyed seeing some of the characters from Pride and Prejudice that I loved and loved to hate. Col. Fitzwilliam will always be one of my favorites.

However, I missed some of the characters from the earlier books in this series. Marianne, Brandon, Emma, Knightley, and other Austen characters made the earlier two books cheerful and lovely. This story needed them, especially Marianne. I also wanted more progression in Jonathan and Miss Tilney's inevitable romance.

I will 100% read the next book in the series, but I selfishly hope Mrs. Tilney, Emma, Marianne, and others finally return as central characters.

Thanks to the publisher for providing me with an advanced review copy! All the above thoughts are my own.

This was a delightful Austenesque mystery and third in series featuring the young Jonathan Darcy and his charming sleuthing companion, Miss Juliet Tilney. As an investigative team, they've been summoned to the home of Jonathan's imperious grand-aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh. There appears to have been several efforts to "do in" Aunt Catherine, hence the summoning. Can our plucky sleuthing team solve this mystery before the culprit succeeds in their nefarious plot? Only time will tell.

Ms. Gray has done a fabulous job of renewing and continuing our affection for these Austen characters. She writes exquisitely and in perfect form for the period represented. The character development is steady throughout and we slowly learn of each character's thoughts, concerns and motivations. The tension increases gradually throughout the story drawing to a peak and then relaxes to a satisfying conclusion. The friendship between Jonathan Darcy and Juliet Tilney is sweet and chaste and perhaps someday, a little bit more than that. This reader is ever hopeful that yet another sequel is forthcoming where their relationship can be even further developed. If a Jane Austen style mystery is your jam then this may well be the perfect book for you.

I am grateful to author Claudia Gray and her publisher, Vintage Books, for having provided a complimentary uncorrected proof of this book. Their generosity, however, did not influence this review - the words of which are mine alone.

I just love this series and the latest book was every bit as good as the others. I enjoyed seeing Juliet come into her own a bit more with the detecting and that she just grew up as a person. I did guess the culprit but the fun of the story is not just in the mystery but in all the characters. I look forward to the next book in the series eagerly!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of the book. #sponsored

Book 3 in the Mr. Darcy/Miss Tilney Mystery series is the best yet as the dynamic duo tries to keep Lady Catherine from being murdered. A must read for every Janeite!

Someone is trying to kill Lady Catherine de Bourgh and she calls in her great nephew, Mr. Jonathan Darcy and his sleuthing partner, Miss Juliet Tilney to solve the case! Much to their respective father's chagrin. LOL

We get to check in on Lady Catherine, Anne & Colonel Fitzwilliam and The Collins family in this one. I love how these books serve as in-depth epilogues to Austen's books while also being great standalone mysteries with a slow burn romance in an of themselves.

I gave this one a four because the pacing went a little too slow at times for me and so did that budding slow-burn romance between Juliet and the slightly autistic Jonathan.

I wonder which Austen villain will be in need of a murder investigation next? Will we get a Pemberly case next? I can't wait! This is a fantastic series for fans of historical romance, Austen and detective team ups.

Third book in the Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney mystery series by Claudia Gray has the duo being summoned to Rosings because Lady Catherine feels her life is in danger. Someone has tried to harm her twice and bungled it both times thankfully. She wants the perpetrator found before they can succeed. As imperious as ever, Lady Catherine demands answers and the two young people will waste no time in providing them.

Prime suspects are those close to Lady Catherine: Anne and her husband Fitzwilliam, The Collins’ family, and the upper servants. All are subjected to Lady Catherine’s managing personality and strong will. They are all dependent upon her money. Could one of them have had enough and decided to hurry her off this mortal coil? The possibility also exists that these are just unfortunate accidents.

Can Miss Tilney and young Mr. Darcy sneak some moments alone to further their relationship as well?
Another excellent mystery that ends with the promise that Pemberly could be next.

Yay, I have been enjoying this Austenesque mystery series by author Claudia Gray since the first installment, "The Murder of Mr. Wickham", (villain of Pride & Prejudice), starring two very cute junior members of the Austen universe - the Darcy & Tilney kids. In this third installment, "The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh", we again get another P&P focus, this time on Darcy's rich & nasty ol' Auntie who somebody may be trying to bump off! So the junior amateur sleuths are reunited again, along with their Dads and we get a great cozy Regency mystery. Loved it & I am looking forward to more of these - so very FUN!! I also really enjoy how the author does a great job of her Austen retellings - the writing is very on point. My sincere thanks to the publisher & Net Galley for the complimentary DRC - my sincere pleasure to review this one!

I was delighted to discover that the latest installment in Claudia Gray’s Mr. Darcy & Miss Tilney Mysteries, The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh, brings one of Jane Austen’s most iconic characters to the forefront. The novel, in which Juliet and Jonathan are called upon to solve another murder––this time before it happens––builds on the previous two in a satisfying way. I was most delighted by Gray’s depiction of Lady Catherine as a complicated, difficult person, yes, but also a passionate and considerate person in her own way. I appreciate the way Gray builds disability representation into the regency world of this series, and I think that representation has improved over time. Without giving anything away, I wish there’d been a little more unpacking of Mrs. Collins’s behavior at the end. But this was such a delightful read, and I’m always excited to get my hands on another of Jonathan and Juliet’s adventures!

Another fun installment in the Miss Tilley-Mr Darcy series. While the author’s price is a little heavy handed at times, I appreciate her thorough knowledge of the Austen source material and thoughtfulness in imagining where the original characters would be in their lives so many years on.

"Are the shades of Pemberley to be thus polluted?" - Lady Catherine's most famous line from Pride and Prejudice.

I was very excited to see this book pop up. I have been a fan of this cozy mystery series since reading the first book, The Murder of Mr. Wickham, and this third book continued Claudia Gray's enchanting Austen world. I love the two leads, young Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney. I enjoy reading about them solving mysteries - gathering their clues, sorting through and analyzing the evidence, and outing the criminal at the end. I think the author does a good job incorporating characters from Austen's book into mysterious situations and coming up with credible continuations to their story. This third book revisits the titular Lady Catherine, her daughter Anne, Col. Fitzwilliam, Charlotte Collins (nee Lucas), and everyone's favorite sycophant, Mr. Collins.

The ending left me a little heartbroken for the two would-be lovebirds, but crossing my fingers that this means more books to come!

I received an eARC from Net Galley.

I've been really enjoying this series, and wanted to love this book, but it missed the mark a bit for me.

The mystery was decent, but I really really wanted to see the love story between Miss Tilney and Jonathan Darcy progress, just a little.

I felt it took too much time on the mystery and not enough time was spent on developing their connection.

I did enjoy Lady Catherine. And Ann and her husband's story was nice as well.

**** possible spoiler******

I did not understand the choice of making Mr. Darcy's character seem like he was back to being hauty and prideful. Having Elizabeth have to come and put him in his place just did not make sense to me.

Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for an arc of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

Thank you to Vintage publishing and NetGalley for granting my ARC request. I was very excited to be approved after loving the first two books in this cozy series.

Jonathan Darcy and Juliet Tilney are back for another mystery (and they're as cute as ever) after multiple murder attempts are made on Lady Catherine de Bourgh’s life.

I do appreciate how Claudia Gray did not make this a rinse and repeat mystery. It’s different from the first two in that Lady Catherine is alive to be her bossy, opinionated, over-bearing self. I feel like Claudia Gray had a lot of fun writing Lady de Bourgh and Mr. Collins. Every line that came out of their mouths is a line I believe Jane Austen could’ve written herself. And unlike in Book 2, I didn't feel like the guilty person was obvious.

I always love “seeing” what’s going on with all the Austen characters years after the woman herself finished writing about them. Claudia did justice to Anne de Bourgh, fleshing her out, and Col. Fitzwilliam.

I also like the addition of original characters, such as Katy and Deb Collins. I particularly appreciated Deb and his struggles. Lady Catherine’s reaction to his struggles actually made me tear up.

It was enjoyable to see characters who were previously left out of the action brought in, such as Henry Tilney. I’ve been waiting to see how he would interact with Mr. Darcy and especially Elizabeth. They have a similar temperament and I look forward to reading more of their interactions in the future.

Much progress was made between Jonathan Darcy and Juliet Tilney in Book 3. And while I want to see them get a happy ending, I’m afraid once they do get their happy ending, it means the series is over. I hope this series goes on forever.

Side note: It’d be interesting to see how Jonathan and Catherine interact with each other if a murder mystery isn't at the core of their meetups. How will a relationship work between them without investigating being a big part of their conversations? I hope to read that one day.

"The Perils of Lady Catherine DeBourgh" is the third installment of Claudia Gray's Jane Austen-based mysteries. No longer do the Tilneys live exclusively in Northanger Abbey or the Darcys in Pemberley. The main characters are teens Juliet Tilney and Jonathan Darcy. They solve murders.

In this current story, no murder has yet occurred; the duo is, at the request of Lady Catherine, trying to prevent one. She has summoned them because she is convinced that she is in danger.

Budding romance also plays a significant part. Jonathan and Juliet care for each other yet feel constrained by the conventions of the time. Jonathan exhibits some behaviors that might put him on the autism spectrum. Each is left wondering about any romantic feelings of the other.

I was totally captivated by the mystery and never did figure it out. The action moves quickly as the killer(s) ratchet up their game and the tension mounts.

I recommend "The Perils of Lady Catherine DeBourgh." Thank you to NetGalley for the advance reader's copy of this book.

This series will never stop bringing me joy.

Gray manages to connect all of my favorite Austen novels and breathe life into the stories in a way that feels as seamless as if Austen herself was telling them. I love the fun mystery element, and somehow even after three books the investigations of Jonathan and Juliet are still exciting and each unique in their own way. I hope these books never stop, because I'm not ready to let go of these families!

I've read so many spin-offs and fresh takes on classic Jane Austen books, but this series just executes in way that nothing else ever has. If you're an Austen fan, you'll want to read these! You get to fall in love with your favorite characters all over again. We could get 100 more of these and it still wouldn't be enough for me!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-ARC of this book. This is one of my favorite continuing series right now, and I was stoked to read the latest one. With Pride and Prejudice being my favorite Austen novel, I was so excited to revisit some familiar locations and characters in this installment. Mr Collins never disappoints as a bumbling idiot, Lady Catherine is just as feisty as ever, and Gray’s own characters make such great protagonists to root for. I quite enjoyed this third book and look forward to the next!

Honestly, I'm kind of disappointed in this third outing with Juliet and Jonathan. The measured pacing has usually worked in favor of the cozier aspects of this series, which naturally takes a particular interest in revisiting and building up intrigue around our favorite Austen characters. But this one moves like molasses; the mystery is atypical since no one has been murdered. The sleuthing takes so long that I pinpointed the culprit well before the halfway mark. Hate when that happens.

The enmity between the fathers, Mr. Tilney and the elder Mr. Darcy, is pretty amusing. Although we'd like to think it, not all of Austen's heroes (or heroines, for that matter) would necessarily find everything to like in each other. It's wishfully gratifying to see both former heroes take on the role of protective parent and also highly amusing to see them at odds with one another.

Lastly, the slowburn between Juliet and Jonathan. We're going backwards, and I'm getting tired of it.
