This one was my least favorite in the series so far sadly. I am normally hard pressed to sit this book down or take a break. But I couldn’t truly lose myself in this book. It was dreadfully slow and tedious. I was hoping this would be the book where the courting started but once again…no. I will continue to read this serious but this one sadly let me down. 3⭐️

I loved this third book in the Mr. Darcy & Miss Tilney Mystery series.

Someone is trying to kill Lady Catherine de Bourgh; imagine that! There are several potential suspects from Mr. Collins, Colonel Fitzwilliam, or any number of people she has bulldozed over the years.

The main sleuths in this series are the team of Jonathan Darcy, nephew to Lady Catherine de Bourgh, and Miss Juliet Tilney. Jonathan and Juliet are so delightful together, but so far the books in the series left me wishing for more romance from these two.

Colonel Fitzwilliam has always been an interesting character to me from his first appearance in Pride and Prejudice. I am so glad he plays a part in this mystery. Honestly, I’d love for him to get his own book.

This mystery is twisty and full of red herrings, but also keeps a light and humorous tone. I highly recommend this series to historical mystery and Jane Austen fans.

I really enjoyed every single second of this one, just like the previous two, up until the very end – nothing too bad or annoying but I wasn’t a big fan of what happened with charlotte & lizzie’s friendship, even if it was realistic, it was still sad. Also, I really was hoping for a bit more between Jonathan and Juliet, though I can be patient. The mystery/murder solving was slower and less intense in this one, probably because it’s attempted murder they’re trying to solve this time. All in all, enjoyed immensely and definitely need more.

I loved entering this world again. Good mystery. Our two young protagonists still have chemistry. Oh when will we see them married.

Another lively and suspenseful entry in a strong series. Gray's characterizations continue to be on point and her plots satisfyingly twisty (I did not guess whodunit). And we end again on something of a romantic cliffhanger, but one I liked better than the last one! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

This book continues the series of mysteries solved by the children of popular Austen characters. This time, though, there is a twist: no one has yet died. The formidable Lady Catherine de Bourgh summons Jonathan Darcy and Juliet Tilney to figure out who has been making attempts on her life. The mystery element was not terribly compelling in this installment, but it was fun to spend time in their world.

Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Mr. Darcy’s aunt and the matriarch of Rosings Park, is sure that someone is trying to murder her. One incident can be explained as an accident, but three incidents that could have led to her death within a short time frame is too much of a coincidence. She summons her nephew Jonathan Darcy as he has solved some other cases as well as his crime solving partner, Miss Juliet Tilney. Will they be able to uncover who is trying to murder Lady Catherine de Bourgh and why?

My thoughts on the novel:
• I LOVE this series. This is the third novel in the “A Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney Mystery” and I love them. Each novel has been a great historical mystery with great characters.

• I enjoyed that the action takes place at Rosings Park and we get to see the characters of Lady Catherine, her daughter Anne, and Anne’s husband, Colonel Fitzwilliam. Also present and living nearby are Mr. and Mrs. Collins and their two teenage children. Author Claudia Gray wrote these Austen characters perfectly. She has a modern sense to her writing, but it true to the characters the way that Austen wrote them. Its interesting to see where these characters are after twenty years.

• I loved the overall humor and wit throughout the novel. It was especially fun that Mr. Collins named his son De Bourgh and daughter Catherine. Ha!

• While enjoying the classic Austen characters, I really enjoy Mr. Jonathan Darcy and Miss Juliet Tilney. Their relationship is great with this book as a will they or won’t they type of romance. Jonathan is on the spectrum at a time when it was not well understood. He is working on looking people in the eyes and being better at social occasions. He believes that Juliet was in love with someone else, while Juliet thinks he doesn’t love her as he hasn’t spoken for her. I love the two of them as characters and love this relationship. It’s moving very slowly, but I have hopes for another novel and for Juliet to one day see Pemberly. I think it would be very fun to have their relationship progress to engaged, and then married and still solving mysteries together.

• Mr. Darcy meeting Henry Tilney is the Austen mash-up I never knew that I needed. I laughed out loud at how they really did not get along. Mr. Darcy’s seriousness with Henry Tilney’s humor did not mesh well. I love Henry Tilney as a character in Northanger Abbey and I was so happy to get more of him in this novel. I did wish that their relationship would have grown better throughout the novel, but it didn’t really. Hopefully it will in future novels.

• I also enjoyed getting to know more about Anne Fitzwilliam and Colonel Fitzwilliam and their relationship. Anne truly loved Colonel Fitzwilliam, but fears he only married her to make the family happy. They loved their son Peter, but after Lady Catherine sends Peter away to school at only age eight, their little family is adrift. Anne wonders about the Colonel’s love and also why he keeps disappearing.

• The mystery was interesting, and I went along with the red herrings and did not guess the murderer until the end.

Overall, The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh by Claudia Gray is an intriguing mystery with a fantastic cast of characters and a great setting. Gray perfectly captures the Regency world of Jane Austen and her characters.

Claudia Gray has such an impressive portrayal of young Mr. Darcy’s struggles. I have loved every one of these books.

I love the witty writing and the way it feels seamlessly like the same characters. What would happen if you put Mr. Darcy and Mr. Tilney in a room together… exactly this, obviously. 😆❤️

I love the mystery and the subtle way she leads the reader to guess but never known until precisely when she wants you to. She’s really good at making everyone look like a suspect.

I love the slow burn guileless romances and how she shows deeper bonds and stronger ties for the older couples who have been together awhile, but are still figuring things out.

The way she sheds light on the attitudes of that time for things we understand more fully today, is beautifully done. I will read every single book in this series, and hope there are many more to come.

This was a regency era adventure filled with wit, charm, and clever murder. It is atmospheric with a clever plot and I enjoyed the chemistry between Jonathan and Juliet.
Many thanks to Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Perils of Lady Catherine de Bourgh brings back our favorite detective duo and this time the characters of Pride and Prejudice are front and center. I absolutely adore this series! It so cleverly weaves all of Austin's favorites; This story was equal parts enchanting and delightful, though the mystery did drag on quite a bit. I also have to say Mr. Darcy Sr while true to form made me want to throttle him at some points because I absolutely love the relationship between Juliet and Jonathan. Of course, Gray left it completely open for another installment and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ LOVE - highly recommend

I was thrilled when I came across an eArc of The Perils of Lady Catherine de Burgh, the third installment in Claudia Gray’s Mr Darcy & Miss Tilley series. I was allowed to spend more time with the beloved Jane Austen characters of my childhood while learning more about their lives through the eyes of their children.

I have always appreciated the care and tenderness Gray uses to approach Mr Darcy’s special needs. She allows them to be a part of who he is, but she does not let them define him. Her kindness and understanding extend to more characters with special needs in this novel. One of the characters secretly has a disease that my daughter suffers from today. It was fascinating to see how individuals were viewed during this time based on something that they could not control. It brought joy to my heart that another character was given their redemption arc by assisting them in the end.

Thank you Claudia Gray for giving my daughter the gift of seeing a character like her in fiction. That is priceless!

Thank you to Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor

I loved this book. I didn't realize it was the third in a series, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything. I will definitely go back and read the first two books. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. I would recommend this book.

A cozy mystery set in an Austeneque world? Sign me up!

This is Book 3 in the Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney series and I always think it’s fun to be immersed in the Jane Austen world once again. Jonathan and Juliet are on the hunt for the attempted murderer of Lady Catherine de Bourgh and the result is very reminiscent of an Agatha Christie tale, as the story isn’t peppered with clues, but rather the perpetrator is rooted out by character interviews and suspicions.

Jonathan is quiet and a bit socially awkward, but is a great contrast to the vibrant Juliet. I really enjoyed this combination and found Claudia Gray’s writing style amusing. I love how tender-hearted Jonathan is portrayed, avoiding the gentleman hunts and such, but here he is–trying to capture a murderer. On the other hand, Juliet gets so used to possibly being in close proximity to the culprit, that she finds herself at ease and immune to the wisps of danger.

This cozy historical mystery was a joy to read and as I don’t want to give any spoilers, just know it’s an entertaining story.

This series was a charming, relaxing read! It was light, the mystery plot is strong and well-planned, the characters who are new to the Austen universe were fleshed out and easy to love.

If you want more spice in a Pride and Prejudice retelling, this isn’t for you. BUT, it’s all of the characters we love, new ones have really interesting backstories, and the language is for the period which makes it very Austen-forward! It was so good to see a hopeful HEA for Jonathan and Juliet, though I would have liked to have seen something more concrete. The and felt a little cliffhanger-ish in that way.

Some parts were a little slower and more repetitive, i.e. some of the backstories of people or situations were explained more than once, the conversations sometimes felt long-winded. But otherwise this was an easy, fun, enjoyable read that made me smile! It was a good end to a series that I really enjoyed!

Also, the audiobook was really well done for anyone who might want to enjoy the story that way or supplement their reading!

Enjoyed it. My only complaint is 'misunderstanding' between young Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney and how slowly romance is moving. Has me saying: By all means move at a glacial pace. Looking forward to Book 4.

Rating: 4.5/5 Penguins (rounded up)
Quick Reasons: Pride and Prejudice meets Sherlock Holmes with a touch of Murder She Wrote; entertaining, true to the era, well-rounded story building; complex, believable characters who remain true to those Jane Austen penned while still becoming even more vibrant

HUGE thanks to Claudia Gray, Penguin Random House, and Netgalley for the title! My review is voluntarily written and in no way altered or impacted by this gesture.

If you've graced the corner of my book block for long, you will have noted my adoration of things that begin with the letter 'P' -- PRIDE AND PREJUDICE chief among them. So when I received an invitation to download and review this return to the era, I immediately jumped at the opportunity. I am not disappointed in having done so. I had a blast returning to the lives I've loved for so long and seeing where they have come into their own. Even with being part of a series, readers need not necessarily have read the first two books to pick this up-- while it eludes to previous goings on, it is not difficult to follow as this remains, in a sense, "separated" from the others. A type of standalone, almost.

This is the third in a series that returns readers to Rosings. The characters are true to those Jane Austen penned so long ago in the original, while intermixing fresh faces AND vividly grown personalities. Claudia Gray respected the world, maintaining all one would wish to recall in a continuation while still making the story most wholly its own. The characters are believable, endearing, and poised in all manners (except, of course, when they decidedly are not).

I definitely recommend this to lovers of the Regency era, murder mystery tales, and especially PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. There's evil afoot, Penguins; can YOU solve the case before Lady Catherine breathes her last?

This book is another excellent installment in the Mr Darcy & Miss Tilney Mystery series. This is book three of the series and I would recommend reading the first two. Mostly to get a sense of the characters and the culprits from books one and two are revealed in this book.

It was lovely to be back in this world Gray has so creatively continued. Lady Catherine is as grumpy as ever and does not lack in cruel things to say. Everyone around her has a motive or hiding a secret. I thoroughly enjoyed getting into character’s heads when Miss Tilney and Mr. Darcy are also trying to decipher who is trying to kill Lady Catherine.

I don’t want to say anything else or even mention character names for fear of spoilers but I truly love this series and hope for more books.

Huge thank to the publisher for the Netgalley link and a paperback copy for tour purposes. All opinions are my own.

The third book in the Jane Austen-verse mystery series featuring amateur gumshoes Jonathan Darcy (son of Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam) and Juliet Tilney (daughter of Catherine and Henry), who are pulled together again to solve a string of murder attempts on one Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

This series continues to be fairly quaint and cozy, and that will delight most readers of this pastiche. Personally, I was hoping for more movement in this one, particularly regarding Jonathan and Juliet's relationship, this seems like one of those series where the author will keep them apart at least through books 5 or 6. The mystery here went in a way that felt barely credible, the story lacked a great deal of tension, and the playful banter or sharp-witted moments I was hoping for with Lady Catherine front and center didn't happen. For those thoroughly invested in this series, I wish you well — but it's time I part ways with it.

This book is the perfect addition to the Mr. Darcy & Miss Tilney series, and I already want the next book. This is the third book, and it brings back our loveable amateur sleuths to solve another mystery. It’s been a year since the events in the last book and both of our heroes have been working on themselves hoping, but not hoping, for another chance to work together, when a letter arrives inviting them to Rosings to solve a potential crime. Someone is trying to kill Lady Catherine De Bourgh, and she hopes that her great nephew and Miss Tilney can work their magic and catch the would-be killer. Excited by the prospect of saving a life with their skills, both young detectives take off with their fathers for an extended stay at Rosings. After their arrival more attempts are made on Lady Catherines life, and the list of suspects isn’t becoming any clearer. As the attacks become more frequent and reckless they must work fast to catch the would-be killer before someone perishes. The level of detail in this book is just as top notch as the previous two. Jane Austen’s world comes to life in fun new ways and the blossoming love story between Johnathan and Juliet is swoon worthy. It is fun catching up with beloved characters, but if you missed an Austen book or two you should still be able to follow along. Mrs. Gray does an excellent job of passing on all pertinent information on the characters and locations in the book so that even someone who has never read Austen could enjoy the story.

Another edition featuring Mr. Darcy (the younger) and Miss Tilney. They are invited to solve a murder that has not happened yet. Mr. Darcy's aunt, the imperious Catherine de Bourgh, has had her life threatened in several incidents, all unsuccessful so far. Many suspects and the amusing dance between the Darcy family and the Tilney family makes this an enjoyable novel.
