Working With The Power of The Moon

Julia Halina Hadas divides this book into two main parts:
1. Part One, which is the basic of understanding the Magick of the Moon and Witchcraft.
2. Part Two, which discusses Spells and Rituals for every moon.

In discussing the magick of the moon and its relationship with witchcraft, the author writes that the moon is intrinsically connected to witchcraft, and as she orbits the earth, reflecting the sun’s light, she ceaselessly changes shape, entrances us, and illuminates both the nighttime landscape and our inner, spiritual realms. She states that the moon provides witches with times for rest, times for growth, times for release, and that as she moves through the astrological signs, she can bolster spells, whether to summon abundance or to banish and protect.

She states that by learning about the history of the moon, we will understand the intrinsic connection we have with her, as well as how her magnetic pull empowers our personal zodiac sign and other astrological aspects, and that by incorporating the moon’s phases, seasonality, history, and even a tad of lunar science into our spellwork, we can manifest beyond our wildest dreams.

The author states that the moon has always been associated with spells and rituals, and while that practice may have changed appearance over the years, witches today still heed the call of the moon, for example, many modern witches:
1. Manifest their desires based on the moon cycles, for example, by casting intentions at the new and full moons.
2. Throw lunar parties and coven gatherings under the full moon.
3. Meditate to align with lunar power.
4. Use moon-charged water in their spellcrafting.
5. Let the phases of the moon guide them regarding when to cast spells, heal, and reflect.
6. Charge crystals and conduct healing rituals by the light of the full moon.
7. Plant, nurture, and cultivate healing herbs based on the phases and cycles of the moon.
8. Use the 29.5-day cycle from new moon to new moon to work on habits and monthly goals to take steps toward their dreams.
9. Use the moon’s phase, sign, and seasonality to guide reflection and focus.

The author discusses the magick and the meaning of the moon phases. Additionally, she discusses the various types of moons, such as:
1. Supermoons
2. Micromoons
3. Blue and Black Moons

One chapter in particular that I, personally, enjoyed reading was the chapter discussing the turn of the seasons (celebrated as the Wheel of the Year) and the seasonal moons that fall within them. The author defines the Wheel of the Year as a cycle of holidays and festivities that celebrate the natural solstices, equinoxes, and cross-quarter days (halfway points between the solstices and equinoxes). She states that this cycle helps us attend to the transition of seasonal energy, and that like each lunar cycle, the Wheel of the Year highlights the ebb and flow of light and darkness. She, further, states that many modern witches and pagans use the Wheel of the Year to celebrate the flow of the seasons and their magick.

Equally important is the information the author provides in the Appendices, which is outlined as follows:
1. Appendix A: Moon Spells by Intention. In this section, the author provides suggested spells based on theme.
2. Appendix B: Moon Associations. In this section, the author outlines a list of general correspondences for the moon. She states that this is by no means an exhaustive list, but just suggestions for when you might be looking for that perfect moon-associated ingredient. You can reference Chapter 5 for more information on some of the correspondences listed here.
3. Appendix C: Moon Sign Associations. In this section, the author suggests ingredients and stones based on the energy of when the moon passes through a certain sign. She states that you can uses this section to help modify spells in the text, but he advises that you should keep in mind that there are many correspondences, and that you should always use what is best for you, and reference official correspondence texts.

Julia Halina Hadas has done an outstanding job in writing this book. She has written it to encompass both beginning and advanced practitioners, exploring the mystical side of natural magic while keeping a common-sense attitude. This book is packed not only with a wealth of information on moon magic, but it contains numerous spells and rituals to be used in your magickal journey of working with the moon.

This is by far one of the best detailed books on moon magick I've read to date. I feel that both, beginning and advanced practitioners, can benefit from the vast amount information provided to experience a deeper grounding in magical correspondences, moon phases, astrological associations, and the myths behind moon magic. The moon has enormous power and celestial energy, and by harnessing this power, you can improve your life every day with the spells and rituals in this book.

I truly enjoyed reading this book so much that I've purchased a hard copy as a reference for my library. And I recommend others to do likewise.

I highly recommend this book.

Very interesting read and I especially enjoyed the chapter on Lunar Deities and learning the mythology of the moon in different cultures. Like Chandra, waxing as he grows closer to his favorite star and waning as he leaves her, able to rest for 3 days before repeating the cycle. Or the story of the Aztec goddess, where the moon is believed to be her severed head rolling forever through the sky.

The overwhelming majority of the spellcraft within was delightful and the pages were packed with great ideas. I think as with all books of this nature they definitely could benefit from having a few ppl review the DIY parts. MOST of them were brilliant. I only found a couple instructions that, while looked really pretty in writing, left me wondering. So I tested those ones specifically and ended up only a bit disappointed and questioning if these had been made following the instructions beforehand. One of those 'instructions unclear, now I've made a mess and burned my hand on the iron and accidentally made fermented strawberries and wasted honey' moments for the sake of giving a thorough review.

A lot of wonderful takeaways and it's very comprehensive guide. The chapter on each month's lunar cycle throughout the year and their various names and seasonal activities was another favorite along with all the lunar correspondences throughout the book.

Thank you to the author & publisher for allowing me to read this book early in return for my honest thoughts and review.

I wouldn’t consider myself witchy but I’ve been interested lately in moon-related astrology, crystals, and the like. So I when I saw this book available on NetGalley, I thought I’d give it a whirl, from a bystander’s perspective! As such, I can’t vouch for any of the spells but found the context (historical and otherwise) and explanatory information interesting, making this a unique type of reference book. I especially liked the section that explained each phase of the moon and its implications as well as the breakdown of special times of the year even though the formatting made it a bit difficult to understand. Also, who knew lunar gardening was a thing?

Thanks to NetGalley and Adams Media for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This is a very interesting book with reasonably detailed practical instructions. It could be that can be little tiresome to read these themes again, but it isn't so because of fresh style of writing and one will learn new facts about Moon also. Just in a few places, little more explanations can be very helpful. If you're into Moons lores and occult teachings this book is highly recommended but it can uplift you very easily so approach with caution!!!

This is one I'm going to have to preorder to get a physical copy of. I've always really been drawn to the moon and its magick. I liked the simple, yet thorough way the author went into the phases and crystals and herbs. I also really enjoyed the spells for their simplicity. They cut right to the chase and most can be done with things you have around the house.
