I listened to the audiobook for this one and the two narrators did an excellent job narrating. They really brought both of the two narrating characters to full life and really helped to keep me interested even when the story dragged a little. I found a little bit of the story slower than I would have liked and I found a couple of the twists to be a little cheesy, but overall I thought it was a fun thriller. Leonie has always been privileged. Her parents are wealthy and have given her all she could have wanted, but it comes at the cost of their control. She would have liked to leave, but she owes her father. 10 years ago when she was only 16 she stole her mother’s car (despite not having a license) and ended up in a horrible accident where someone died. Her father had followed her and wouldn’t let her call police or report the accident so it wouldn’t ruin her life. Leonie finally feels like her life is coming together. She has created her own successful business (under the umbrella of her father’s company) and has met the man of her dreams and is soon to be wed. But she doesn’t know that she and her father aren’t the only two that know she was on the road the night of the accident and that someone is determined to make her pay.

Leonie has a pretty enviable life. The daughter of wealthy parents, she's been given a good start at life and built a posh private property business as an off shoot of her father's uber successful real estate/construction/design empire. She's also lucky in other departments, having met Markus, the love of her life, and preparing to marry him. Things are going well for her....because no one knows she has a dark secret.

I really enjoyed this one. The writing and narration were excellent so it was a very quick listen! Since we're hearing the story from two sides there's not really a huge twist, but it does build well and keeps your interested. Definitely recommended!

3.5 stars rounded up!

This book was good— but it just didn’t completely hit the thriller mark for me for some reason. I just feel like something was missing? I do feel like it had all the things-- a successful woman named Leonie with a seemingly perfect life, someone that wants to take away that life, dark secrets, guilt, new love, wedding disasters, & so much more.. I just felt like it was a bit unrealistic.

Thank you so much NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, & Miranda Rijks

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the early audio of Make Her Pay.

This a psychological thriller that really keeps you on your toes.

The story follows Leonie who is in her twenties, has an amazing career and meets the man of her dreams. However she has a huge secret that weighs on her shoulders and leaving her with the worst guilt.

As Leonies wedding approaches things start to go wrong. Now Leonie is living one nightmare after another.

I enjoyed this fast pace read. Some expected twists and some really unexpected twists and actually enjoy the ending.

Narrator: Charlie Albee’s, Ella Lynch

Engaging narration. Cat and mouse aspect kept me from taking breaks from listening. Felt like some aspects including the ending were rushed. Is a light and easy read that I mostly enjoyed!

Thank you to author, publisher, NetGalley for advanced audio copy. This is an honest voluntary review.

In this book, we get a lot of information on the characters and events right from the beginning. Whether that is good or bad I can't decide. I like it when there is more of a mystery behind what happened and in this one we know right from the beginning or at least we know + one character. There are a few twists that were super surprising and that made up for knowing so much in the beginning.

Overall, I kept reading because I wanted to know what would happen between the characters once the secrets were revealed!

This book was pretty good. I didn’t LOVE it, but I enjoyed it. It’s certainly not an “edge of your seat” type of thriller, but the story is compelling and engaging. It’s a medium to slower pace, so this is not a book for fast paced thriller fans. I found it to be a bit predictable, but then again this isn’t a twisty type of thriller. Both of the narrators did an incredible job. Overall, I’d recommend this book.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to this advance copy!

I really enjoyed this thriller! Leonie was involved in an accident as a teenager, and even though she's never been able to get rid of her guilt over it, she's built a good life for herself. She's about to marry the man of her dreams, when things start going wrong. Great narration. Great plot. Great character development (more than usual in a thriller, which I loved). This was a fun listen! Rijks has a huge blacklist which i now plan to tackle.

I had fun reading this book. I do have some criticism but I don’t know how to bring it up while avoiding any spoilers, nothing huge to complain about though. Ultimately, I couldn’t put this book down. I finished it in 36 hours. Great pacing.

This book was okay. The relationship between the father and the daughter bothered me from the beginning. The twists in the story were easy to figure out. The twist in the end was a little far fetched and disappointed me.

Name of Book: Make Her Pay

I read this back in December and gave it 5 Stars. I love a good audiobook so when I saw the audiobook was available for request I could not resist.

Story starts ten years ago when Leonie was sixteen. While her parents were hosting a party she took her mother’s car. Her dad spotted her leave and followed her. When he saw she was involved in a fatal auto accident, he whisked her back to their summer estate. She shouldn't have been driving - no license, also insurance. Dad knew that word of this accident was the end of his business as well as Leonie future.

Leonie lives with guilt and is always fearful that she is going to accidently let what she had done slip. She has always wondered what her life would have been like if her father hadn't followed her t night. Perhaps she would she have told the truth as to what happened. However, if she had her life certainly would be totally different - nothing like it is today however, she would be free of guilt.

Although I already read this and knew there was going to be a ‘Big Reveal’.; and I did remember but the details were not clear.

I got totally absorbed in the performances of the two narrators Charles Albers who portrayed Leonie and Elle Lynch did Cary.; they both were fabulous in performing all the characters making it once again exciting.

This in only my fifth [author: Miranda Rijks thriller when I read " The Second Wife" which was my first and was GREAT!
I knew then I found a new fav author! She is such a clever storyteller! I just love her!

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook. This book was very addicting and had a fast paced story. The main character was a secret that happened 10 years ago.. the author sets up this beautifully and it grabs your attention. My only complaint is the narration. I wasn’t a fan and normally I listen to a sample before I request a book. Other than that I enjoyed it.

Leonie runs a successful real estate business that keeps her busy and unavailable to most men, just the way she likes it. She doesn't drink because she never wants to lose control, and she never wants to lose control because she has a dark secret she can't let out. She was responsible for the death of another driver when she was sixteen years old with no license and no insurance. Her father has covered this up for her to protect her but at a price. He and her mother run Leonie's life. And then Leonie meets a handsome man named Markus and she falls head over heels for him, they are soon engaged. But as the wedding approaches problems with the wedding planning pop up. Leonie thinks it might be her interfering parents but when these problems escalate she wonders if someone knows her secret and if out for revenge. Leonie is afraid. This is a twisty plot that I thoroughly enjoyed. Fast paced and full of surprises it was a lot of fun to read. Recommended for fun.

4⭐️

I had the audiobook read by Charlie Albers and Ella Lynch. I wasn’t taken on the voice for the young Leonie or her parents, i found it grating. I wasn’t impressed by the male voices in either era.

Leonie is enjoying life in her 20’s married to the man of her dreams Markus. Leonie has a secret she was involved in an accident ten years ago where the other driver died. She shouldn’t have been driving, so she fled the scene.

Now someone is determined to exact revenge for what Leonie did that night.

On to the plot, it’s got a decent pace with plenty going on throughout. Some good twists and turns, it’s dark but not gritty or gory.
As for the characters, non of them are likeable, that didn’t stop me engaging with the story. My favourite was Zak,despite him not having a big role, but I wasn’t sure about him either by the end. The person I disliked most was Leonie’s father.

I enjoyed the story, but unfortunately I didn’t gel with the narrators, I think narrators are even more subjective than author style for readers/ listeners. This is a rare exception where I think I would have preferred the book.
Book rating 4⭐️
Narration 2.5⭐️

I wanted to note that I inadvertently clicked the wrong book late last night when I went to write my review and I feel awful as this book and its narration didn’t deserve what I expressed. I hope the publisher sees this edit.

I want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this title, Make Her Pay. It was a fast “listen” in that I didn’t have to go back and repeat anything and I got engaged in the story which led to longer listening sessions.

The story was intriguing with an accident in the past that went without consequence , now the parties come into each others lives in the future and revenge is the name of the game.

While I didn’t find anything overly surprising and figured out what was to happen many times along the way, I was not bothered by it. It definitely isn’t a “cozy mystery” but it has a quality that is similar in that you forgive the tropes a long the way.

As an American I love reading books by British authors or ones that take place in the UK. I enjoy the journey a long the way.

There are twists and turns along with Single White Female type vibes make this a good read, just make sure you’re in the headspace for the psychological mind bender!

Leonie’s journey was interesting to read. I felt for her anytime her relationship with her father was brought up, and when the too good to be true Markus came into her life, my heart sank. Because we have the POV’s of both Leonie and Carrie, I tied everything into place way before the second half started (well, 95%) but it was still an interesting read about accountability, guilt and revenge.

I remember when I read my first ARC from Rijks, The Influencer, and this was a great improvement from the writing in there. I actually look forward to Miranda’s future works.

Leonie still feels the guilt over an accident that occured ten years ago. When things start to go wrong as she is planning her wedding to Markus, she wonders whether karma has finally gotten ahold of her.

Wow, what a twisted tale this was! It was absolutely addictive on audio and I enjoyed the wild ride, struggling to stop listening. If all her books are the same, I will definitely be adding Miranda Rijks to my must read authors list!

I enjoyed reading the book so much that I requested the audiobook as well. The narration was just okay. It did not do the book much justice. However, I still enjoyed the plot the second time around as much as I did the first.

Bestselling author, master storyteller, and queen of twists, Miranda Rijks, returns following The Homemaker with her latest and one of her best, MAKE HER PAY —an intense, stylish, crafty, nail-biting, and compelling psychological thriller that explores guilt and its effects from adolescence into adulthood with all its emotions and horrors.

The author gives us all an early Christmas surprise gift with this powerhouse of a novel. (thank you!) Highly recommend! I am in awe of her talent and how she can write so many books! I think this is her 21st book!

With the author's signature twists, Rijks surprises readers with atmospheric settings, vivid descriptions, compelling characters, and a story that could be ripped from today's headlines—from untrustworthy characters and believable gasp-worthy twists, you will be hooked.

I was so captivated I read in one sitting! The part where she was lured to the secluded Airbnb, the forest, the road, the car—My heart was pounding, and I was on the edge of my seat!

Leonie came from a well-to-do family. Her father is a huge real estate developer. He is also very controlling. He controls her mother, and he tries to control her brother until he escapes. Like most teens, their family is on vacation in one of their homes and hosting a big party by the pool. They are leaving the following day, and Leonie wants to see this boy she had met over the summer before and say goodbye. Don't we all remember these days?

Leonie still needs to get her driver's license, has no car insurance, etc., steals her mom's SUV, and plans on meeting the guy. She thinks they are in the middle of entertaining and will never miss her. However, not accustomed to driving, she gets nervous when a car follows her too close, speeding up and blinking lights, blinding her while another vehicle is coming head-on in her lane. She loses control of the car, and there is a deadly accident.

It was her father in the car behind her, trying to get her to pull over after he discovered she had stolen her mom's car. She is afraid someone in the car is dead, but her dad says they need to leave, and there is nothing they can do. They need to cover up the accident and never speak of it again, or it could ruin all their lives.

The trauma has stayed with Leonie her entire life, shunning away from relationships and burying herself in work. She also chooses not to drink for fear of spilling the events that she has buried for so long.

Ten years later, Leonie works for an online real estate company catering to wealthy clients, a division of her dad's company. It is here she met Markus, a homeowner. They have been together for quite a while, and he proposes marriage.

However, strange things start occurring as they plan the wedding, from her wedding dress work appointments and more. She soon suspects someone knows about what happened years ago. Could the person in the car be alive or somehow knows them and is trying to get revenge as the 10th anniversary of the date is upcoming?

Little does she know the complex, multi-layered revenge plot coming for her. She has felt such guilt. But she looked at the car briefly and begged her father to check on the person and call the authorities. But he refused. She was just a kid.

Then it is the day of the wedding. Something is not right. Then, soon, she is caught up in a nightmare. Who is doing this? It has to be someone who knows their whereabouts. Is Markus who he says he is? Things do not add up.

Later, after a tragic event, she is lured to a BnB spa for relaxation and finds herself trapped. She soon realizes this has everything to do with the night of the accident, and now she is fighting for her life! Someone is determined to make her pay!

Pulse-pounding and deliciously unpredictable, MAKE HER PAY will be every thriller lover's winter obsession. Ratcheting tension and jaw-dropping reveals will leave readers questioning who they can trust – savoring every moment of this delicious cat-and-mouse game.

Oh, my, the author pulls out all the stops in this riveting, dark, suspenseful thriller with a cast of compelling characters. Cleverly constructed, a multi-layered story that will hook you from start to finish, tapping into every parent's darkest fears. With wildly intricate plot twists, it will keep you guessing to the end.

With deceitful characters who are not what they seem, a myriad of unexpected twists and turns, and a story that moves along at high speed and never a lull.

I LOVED MAKE HER PAY. Every page turn leaves you unsettled with a sense of foreboding that something dark is coming. You could feel every fear and emotion—a cautionary tale for parents who try to protect themselves and their children by covering up their misdeeds. The past will come back to haunt you sooner or later.

I also listened to the audiobook narrated by Charlie Albers and Ella Lynch, who made the characters come alive for an engaging performance! I adore this author, have read many of her books, and love her writing style. I highly recommend The Lodge (another super revenge story) if you enjoyed this one.

MAKE HER PAY is perfect for fans of Mary Kubica, Robyn Harding, and Kimberly Belle. #CoverCrush This well-written, gripping domestic suspense is a total package and ideal for thriller lovers!

Thanks to Inkubator Books, NetGalley, and Dreamscape Media for a digital advanced reading copy and advanced listening audio copy for review.

Let me be very, very clear: there is not a single likeable character in this entire book, and that is not an exaggeration. If you need to like characters in the books you read- RUN. That being said, I loved this. THIS BOOK RIGHT HERE IS A THRILLER! This book is intense and you will not want to put it down.
My only annoyance is that Rijks does a lot of telling over showing, as well as unneeded descriptions. We don't need to know the color of a character's shirt unless it's relevant (it never is).
