Leah Turner is a human who, against all the rules, knows about the magical world thanks to co-owning a bar with her two witchy best friends. Gabriel Goodnight is a Higher family warlock forced to live among humans and with limited magic for three months if he wants to inherit his family's business. When he walks into Leah's bar to work, she's excited to see the handsome warlock she met at a masquerade she wasn't supposed to be at, but he doesn't recognize her. They're from different worlds and have clashing personalities, will that mean they can't let the spark they feel turn into something more?
I don't know what it is about reading a magical romance where the man is the magical one that makes it feel fresh despite following the same tropes these stories always do, yet here we are. There's also the fact that Morgan writes both sides of the romance, so you get to see what everyone is thinking and how it affects the things that happen. Seeing the man be the one who freaks out about things was a nice change of pace, and it made it even sweeter to know the stoic face Gabe shows the rest of the world disappears when he's with Leah.
The romance is clear from the beginning, with some nice banter and lots of attitude from both sides that help turn the heat up when necessary. I enjoyed the balance of sexy times and just plain old supportive moments that show a real relationship being formed. You can see the connection between Gabe and Leah forming, so it feels real when the big emotional confessions come. x
Very happy thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin for the fun, witchy read!
