A disclaimer to start - I've been following the author since before her first poetry collection (tumblr was a time back then). While I haven't quite read everything they've written, I have read most of it (and I will read the rest at some point). I'm definitely biased, and I'll admit it.
Regardless, this gentle introduction to the basics of witchcraft is perfect for young witches (or soon-to-be witches). A witch's first steps into their craft can be intimidating and Lovelace is encouraging and reassuring throughout. The illustrations and poetry interspersed with instruction and spells add to the book's charm without taking away from the introductions to rituals, spells, tarot and oracle cards, and more.
All in all, a lovely and practical introduction to witchcraft for middle-graders.
Thank you to NetGalley and Running Press for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Your Magical Life is a beautiful illustrated guidebook for children and YA about magic, self-love and positivity. The book is set out as a beginners guide and covers not just witchy things such as creating an alter, tarot reading, journaling, etc, but includes poetry and tools to boost happiness, confidence, raise self-esteem and daily rituals. This is a beautiful and gentle book that would make a lovely gift for any young witch/lover of magic.
So many years ago, I found a copy of this authors book in the wild of a library and since then I have adore her.
When I found that she was writing a book about her craft and witchcraft I was pre-ordering and request e-arc as quick as possible.
This books is what the younger me could have done with when I started my path, it's written in a loving manner, with great information and sources in it. It's a book that reminds you that your path is yours. Would recommend this book to anyone who is starting they year and one day or just wants more information.
The perfect book if you need an uplifting and life affirming read. Easy to follow and informative
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Amanda Lovelace has shown us many different sides of herself throughout her work, being both open and honest. She has previously written collections of poetry, and this is a juvenile nonfiction work for beginners about magic and witchcraft. I thought this was a great introduction and very well-rounded. This will likely be purchased for our library collection.
I found this to be an excellent age appropriate introduction to the topic. It fills a juvenile non-fiction niche well,
This is a fantastic introduction to magic and witchcraft for a younger reader and an excellent addition to a library "young adult" collection.
The cover is cozy and welcoming, the tone is engaging and approachable throughout, and many of the examples and spells are accessible by readers who do not yet have their own living space or disposable income. The format, based first around the days of the week and then later around the phases of the moon and the seasons of the year, links familiar concepts to the new information and helps the reader create a sustainable, thoughtful, and maintainable routine. While an index might have been helpful for locating specific spells, the conversational style and links to daily life (for instance the use of a playlist for divination, or a spell to take a break from social media) ensures that the material will find a place in the reader's life no matter when the reader happens across the information. Thank you to NetGalley for access to this arc!
