I want to preface this by saying this was one of my most anticipated books of the year and I absolutely loved the first book, My Roommate Is A Vampire.
My biggest gripe with this book was that it was boring and a little bit slow paced. I think the trope of a fake plus one to a family or exes wedding tends to fall into the trap of being drawn out and boring because the event the book is leading up to us pretty anticlimactic, and the scene of the wedding is typically pretty short. I don’t actually know if that was the case in this book because i stopped reading before i got to the wedding scene, but that is generally how this trope goes, and I wasn’t that interested. At no point did i think “I HATE this book” which is why I gave it 2 stars when DNFs are usually 1 stars for me. I didn’t hate this book, I just couldn’t bring myself to continue reading it, and actually avoided reading anything for a week because I didn’t want to read this book.
Another issue I had with this book was with the personality of both the main characters, but mostly Reginald. In My Roommate Is A Vampire, I loved Reginald (he was actually my favorite character). That’s why I was so excited to read this. However, it feels like the author dramatically changed his character, specifically his ridiculous, carefree, joking nature, which was, in my opinion, what made him so likable. In this book he’s ridiculous, but in a cringey way, like I got the ick multiple times and was screaming for Amelia to run in the other direction. I’m sick right now so i’m having trouble explaining exactly how his character is so different from the previous book, but that was what stuck out to me the most. I also didn’t love Amelia’s character, but that was mostly because she was so one dimensional. I have never met an accountant who only ever talked about being an accountant. In fact, everyone I know in accounting actively hates their job and treats it like a 9-5 that doesn’t affect their life any differently than a marketing job would. It seemed like her whole character was about being an accountant that’s practical, and too practical to date (because she’s an accountant, obviously) I swear her being an accountant was brought up in every other sentence. And that is what bothered me most about their characters — that they were both one dimensional and had one trait that defined them. Reggie being outlandishly ridiculously and making decisions that were the exact opposite of anything a rational person would do (obviously he’s ridiculous and not a person, but it was so exaggerated I couldn’t suspend my belief). Amelia being extremely practical, prioritizing work over everything in her life (really? being an accountant means so much to you you won’t date or go out with friends because it affects your work??? really???) I would be less annoyed by this if they had other traits to balance these out, but they didn’t. they were completely one dimensional.
My last qualm with this book is one that I can usually deal with in romances, but it was actually my tipping point of not being able to suffer through this book anymore. It was the way that the continuous miscommunication of Reginald being a vampire, and thinking Amelia knows this, while Amelia has no idea he’s a vampire, despite all the context clues pointing her in that direction, that would obviously lead to a big reveal on the day of the wedding that causes a huge fight and breaks up their relationship, that made this unbearable.
I feel like this review is more scathing than I intended and I stick by the fact that I don’t hate this book. I just was bored by it, and found it too ridiculous to bear. I love the first book and recommend it all the time, this one just didn’t land for me. I’m excited to see what Jenna Levine is publishing next though!!

This book was amazing, the mix between romance and paranormal genre was really good. It was funny, it was sweet and I loved it. I think the characters are well written. It offers such an entertaining time for thos esho love romance and paranormal love stories.

This was a cute and quirky vampire romance! I don’t think I enjoyed it quite as much as My Roommate is a Vampire–something about it felt a little disjointed to me–but it was still enjoyable. I liked the opposites-attract dynamic between Reggie and Amelia, but they fell in love pretty quickly for an immortal commitment-phobe and a no-nonsense, by-the-book accountant. But hey, that’s what happens in romances. It was fun and fluffy with a bit of the supernatural, just as advertised, and I’ll be on the lookout for Jenna Levine’s next book!

I had high hopes for this book because of the first novel My Roommates a Vampire. Thank goodness it didn't disappoint. Levine writes good romance with humor and that's what made me a fan of this duology.

3.75🌟 - it was good!

Such a silly little book! Perfect for the Halloween/fall season and such an easy romance to get sucked into. These books are sooo campy, but I love it! If you love a fake dating trope and vampires then check this one out!

Tropes (IMO):
- Fake Dating
- Snowed In
- Stranger to Friends to Lovers
- Forced Proximity
- Slow burn
- Golden Retriever MMC
- Vampire x Human
- Dual POV

Reginald is a walking green flag! I love everything about him. I love how even though he is clueless, he still takes initiative and respects Amelia. I felt close to Amelia, being a workaholic and never wanting to take a break because of a deadline. It was lovely of Reginald to find ways for her to relax and force her to enjoy live. At first, I hated A's parents cause as an Asian, I can relate LOL, the neverending questions and the invasion of privacy. However, towards the end, Dad saves the day with how he treats Reggie, and their interactions are so cute. Still, an AH move to not provide food for someone you're inviting tho.

I don't know whether to feel flattered or to laugh or to keep rolling my eyes because the conflict in the story was solved by the Internal Revenue Code and the scary IRS (I am also an accountant). Like the climax and the main part of the plan are mostly reliant on codes that most people would need to look for LMAO. I guess this is a ROMCOM so I'll let it pass.

The spicy scene (it’s an abomination that there’s only one) is perfection!

Overall it was a good read, with some aspects that I didn't like, hence the 4 starts. I would recommend this book if you like to laugh and just feel giddy. This book has proven that I am not a slow burn girly haha.

This was a fun read. I did enjoy the first book more than this one, but overall I had a good time reading this one.

SO FUNNY!! This was soooo much better than the first book in this series and I'm excited to see what happens next!

This is a good book if you're looking to read just for enjoyment. There's a little to the plot here but it's mostly just vibes and nothing else. They have a meet cute, they fall in love and the whole vampire human relationship isn't a huge deal (as expected!).

okay, I really enjoyed the first book in this series, so I was looking forward to this one, and I really really really really didn’t like it. it was hard to get though. moments like during intimate scenes referencing other characters from the last book that the FMC barely knows and it wouldn’t be appropriate to reference their book preferences while naked, like what? I also just thought it was unfortunately really boring. If the series continues I will read on but damn it will have to win me back.

A delightful read! Get ready to fall in love with this fake dating, vampire romance. Amelia and Reggie make for an entertaining couple, and the banter is a delight. A perfect read for spooky season!

Amelia is tired of having to answer her family’s comments about being single. So when she receives an invitation to another family wedding, she is determined to find a date. After a random encounter with a stranger, she decides he would be the perfect option. Reginald is a bit strange, but he’s good-looking. Reggie, who is actually a vampire and over 100 years old, thinks this fake relationship sounds like so much fun. As they spend time together, Amelia realizes there’s so much more to Reggie than she expected from her first impression, and she may want to be with him for real.
This was probably my favorite paranormal romance of the season. It was truly bonkers and had me laughing out loud. This book was truly so much fun to read!
Thank you to Berkley Publishing and NetGalley for the advance copy.

Just like the first, this was quick, fun, ridiculous and just what everyone needs right now. It's completely fluffy but in the best way and I will forever read anything Jenna Levine puts out.

My Vampire Plus-One was ok, but I wasn't crazy about it. I really liked the first book though. I would recommend it though.

This was a silly, fun paranormal rom-com that just worked. I’ve read a few cheesy romances lately that came across as cringey instead of fun, but that was not the case for My Vampire Plus One. It was a breezy fun time that kept me engaged throughout. I initially picked this one up for Halloween, but I would recommend it at any time of year as it doesn’t feel seasonal.

3.5 ⭐️

thank you to Netgalley for the eARC!
this was super cute and a quick read. Reggie was a great and fun love interest and the two had very cute moments. the ending being a little open-ended was different than other romcoms but I don’t hate it!

I didn’t like how insta-lust it had been and I feel like the tension and fake-dating could’ve been drawn out a lot longer than it had been, and I needed more Reggie POVs!! I also feel like there’s a lot of loose ends left over, especially the part where Amelia’s family doesn’t respect her dietary restrictions. Also. I was hoping for more fake-dating action at the wedding. Overall, very cute but could’ve been better.

•witty banter
•fake dating
•funny misunderstanding
•slow burn romance

genuinely made me laugh out loud so many times while reading this. it's witty with fun characters and just the right amount of slow-burn in there to make you want to finish the book in one sitting!

my only wish is that we had a bit more vampirism in the books. there’s only a little bit of focus on the vampire backgrounds & also what their lives are like or were like. i would love to see more about what being around humans is like to give the men some more depth.

thank you to netgalley and berkley pub for the copy of my ebook!

I absolutely loved My Roommate is a Vampire, but Reggie wasn’t my favorite character so I wasn’t sure how I felt about a book based on him. I’m pleased to say I was put in my place and am now a Reggie fan. Jenna’s follow up novel was a great time and I don’t think I could have enjoyed myself more! I’m going to need 637282 more vampire (and tbh any other creatures) books from her STAT.

The way I love this series! @jennalevine is writing pure romcom magic here. Amelia and Reginald were so sweet and goofy and lovable together. The audiobook was also superb, featuring narrators Helen Laser and Daniel Henning. If you love a fun romcom with spice and a twist (uh, he’s a vampire!), you’ll love this book! I received an advanced reading copy, receipt of which did not impact my review.

I ended up with a copy of the audiobook, and listened to it on my morning commute to work. Thanks for the ARC!
