I liked "The Heiress Masquerade" but not nearly as much as I liked "The Heiress Swap." While I love that FMC Aimee is independent, intelligent, and business minded, she is often unreasonable and borderline rude. MMC Harrison is fabulous in his willingness to (eventually) rethink traditional gender roles, but he is also arrogant and his reasons for never loving again are thin at best. There is some decent banter between the pair, but there is also a lot - I mean, a lot - of miscommunication, some of it nonsensical. The romance aspect seemed a little sudden, as did the couples' physical relationship (I don't mind spice or a fast burn, this just came a bit out of left field for me) but there is chemistry between them. My biggest complaint is that there was a lot of repetitive thought from both Aimee and Harrison - Michaels would use the same phrase multiple times in having the characters ruminate on their futures or motivations. All that said, I did like the book. I like a romance with a side of mystery, and I enjoyed reading Aimee's story as it ran parallel to Evie's.

3.5 stars rounded to 4. Thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. These opinions are my own.

I listened to book 1 before reading The Heiress Masquerade.

I have liked Aimee since book 1. She came across as a strong woman who would do anything she put her mind to. She wanted to prove to her father that she could handle his business. Aimee convinced her cousin to trade places for the season.

Harrison worked for her father's England office. He is tasked with showing her the ropes of the business.

I liked Aimee and Harrison together. The dynamic with Aimee, her cousin, and her father was well written.

I loved this series.

This book was one of the worst I've read in awhile. Basically, the characters just yelled at each other in every scene and repeated why they couldn't be together over and over (and it wasn't even a convincing reason). There was just too much dialogue and very little quiet moments of getting to know the characters' motivations... just yelling. Every other female character besides the FMC was "crazy" and I really did not appreciate the way that mental illness was used in this book.

This book was a DNF at 18% for me. I just could not get invested in the story or the characters and overall felt that it was a bit boring. I generally enjoy historical romance, so I’m not sure why this one did not work for me. I think mostly I just found Aimee to be very unlikable, and therefore didn’t really care. She is just so rude, arrogant and argumentative. It seemed like this book was going to include a lot of tropes, without doing any of them very well. I was never excited to pick up this book, so chose to DNF. I don’t regret this choice as I feel that the story would have fallen flat for me, even if I had chosen to finish.

Absolutely loved reading this book. The characters are loveable and beautifully written. This is my first Maddison Michaels read but it definitely won't be my last

A delight Blend of romance and intrigue that combines elements of wealth, wit, and collusion. I loved the chemistry between Aimee and Harrison and also the engaging plot. There was never a dull moment.
Many thanks to Enchanted Publishing and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion

The Heiress Masquerade is the second book in the Dollar Princess series. This is a stand-alone read.

In 1890 there were many aristocracies in financial trouble. It was common for American brides to marry to save upper class and their homes. Aimee is one of those young women being sent to England to get a title in exchange for large dowries. Aimee is not looking forward to being a Dollar Princess. What she wants is to learn how her father's business runs and be in a position to take over when the time comes. Her father and grandfather had no intention of ever letting that happen. Aimee comes up with a plan to change places with her look alike cousin who is supposed to be learning how to be a secretary for her father's London office.

Harrison Stone runs the London office and is close to closing a deal that will get him controlling interest if he closes the deal. When Aimee comes to the office as "Evie", sparks fly between them. Aimee as "Evie" is feisty and head strong. She quickly discovers anomalies in the books and finds out a German translator is trying to derail the deal Harrison's deal. Will Harrison suspect Aimee is behind all of this or will he trust her as her identity is revealed.

This was a light and fun read. Watching Aimee stand her ground to get what she wanted was a different take in a historical romance. I highly recommend reading this book.

If you read The Heiress Swap (read my review), the first book in Maddison Michaels' Dollar Princess series, you've already met Aimee Thornton-Jones, the wealthy cousin of orphaned Evie, heroine of book one. The Heiress Masquerade tells the story of what happens to Aimee after she and Evie switch places upon arriving in London. Both books take place during the same six-week period.
If you enjoy historical romance romps with enemies-to-lovers romance, fish-out-of-water heroines, exasperated heroes, a mystery to solve, and plenty of steam, this is the book for you. If you enjoy underestimated heroines with something to prove, you'll probably love Aimee. I did. I was cheering her on the entire way as she went toe to toe with Harrison in her quest to prove something very important to her father. I loved her indomitable spirit but my heart also ached for her when her heart was broken. Never fear, this is a romance and with a little help from an unexpected ally, Harrison finally realizes the error of his ways which leads him to a grand gesture that had me sighing happily even as I kept trying to nudge them back to safety.
The mystery in this one was well crafted with more than a few surprises I wasn't expecting. There was a thread left dangling regarding one character that I would have liked seeing addressed on the page but other than that, good job on a mystery I didn't solve before the reveal. I do enjoy when an author accomplishes that.
The end of this book leads me to think there may be more books in the Dollar Princess series. I hope so.

Nothing is better than a strong, sassy female who knows her worth, has brains, and doesn't back down from a challenge. The banter, sense of excitement, and growing love were done beautifully. The ending felt a bit rushed, but otherwise, I really enjoyed this book.

If you’re looking for a fun little historical romance with a twist, this is it! Had such a fun time reading, love when we have such a sassy FMC!

Amy & Harrison built up with the perfect hate-to-love-you vibes. Their chemistry was instant and their connection built quickly. I love how Maddison Michaels writes such strong independent women and allows the men to love them as they are without trying to change them. Even if it takes them a minute to accept. This story has intrigue, passion and love and is read masterfully by Heather Wilds in audio.

American heiress Aimee would rather take over her father’s company than marry a titled English lord, so she concocts a plan to swap places with her lowborn cousin when they go to England together. Evie will pretend to be Aimee and go to balls and such, while Aimee will work as a secretary in the London office of her father’s company. Except the outspoken Aimee is nothing like her father described to his protegee and head of the English brand, Harrison. He’s both annoyed and intrigued by Aimee and is disappointed that his beloved boss has misled him about the girl’s personality. Of course, the bickering and fighting serves as delicious foreplay for these two, who are distracted by their attraction for each other. We also get an interesting plot about business sabotage, which turns into a kidnapping scheme. Super exciting and fast-paced story.

This book was not my cup of tea. I would have loved to read more banter in this. This was a bit slower paced for me.

This was such a guilty pleasure! I had so much fun reading this. It’s been a while since I read a historical romance and I thoroughly enjoyed this. The banter was unmatched and the chemistry between Aimee and Harrison was sizzling. I loved the identity switch trope throughout because it made the stakes so much higher! And THAT TWIST?! I was not expecting that at all, and even when I thought I knew what was going on, I was wrong! I truly enjoyed this. The spice is good, and tasteful given the period in which the novel was based. If you’re looking for a guilty pleasure historical romance, this is a great place to start!

Some of the action has a slight melodramatic tone. Entertaining, but the romance didn't feel quite right.

Aimee, the strong FMC, is determined to convince her father that she is capable of running his business, even though her mother wants her to find a titled man to marry and start a family. Harrison Stone, her MMC counterpart, was taken in by Aimee's father as a boy and mentored in all things business. Now Harrison runs the London branch of his company. When her cousin Evie and herself are sent to London for 6 weeks, Aimee capitalizes on the opportunity to switch places with Evie so she can secretly go to the secretary training and learn about her father's business. Obviously, the switch doesn't go completely as planned, and Aimee ends up in a pretty serious predicament.

My thoughts:
-Aimee and Harrison have a humorous and interesting dynamic - bickering and bumping heads constantly. I enjoy how they challenge each other throughout the book.
- I love a strong, determined FMC in historical romances. I cheer in the women trying to break out of the societal mold. Go Aimee!
- The story surprised me
- I love Aimee's father. He's the absolute best

Overall, if you like a good historical romance with some passion and a little romance, this book is for you!

Thank you, NetGalley, for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.

This is book two in the Dollar Princess series and this time we get to read about Aimee's experience masquerading as her cousin Evie. While poor relation Evie is off in book one pretending to be an American heiress dollar princess for six weeks, Aimee is taking secretarial training as Evie at her father's London branch of his American shipping business. Her dream is to take over the business one day but that's unheard of for a young woman in 1890. Harrison, her father's protégé, (they've never met) is running the London side while trying to broker a deal that will hopefully let him buy the London business. He was orphaned as a child, abandoned by his remaining family, but is now the heir to an Earldom. Having real abandonment issues, he vows never to love anyone making Aimee's life difficult. Their discussion of his willingness to have a working wife was interesting along with some real excitement and drama over the sabotaging of the business deal. I do have one nagging problem. They met while Aimee was saving a dog being abused by his owner. Harrison shows up, the dog runs off with its leash still attached never to be mentioned again. Why didn't they try to find the poor dog? I'm worried about him!
