Cute small town romance. A slow burn definitely but a sweet story about a writer look to do some research to rewrite her current book and a cowboy.
If you’re looking for a romance story with no spice or open door this one might be for you. While I liked the gradual change to the main characters becoming a couple it did feel like it took a long time to finally happen.
The plot was good. The characters were likeable. My only complaint is with the accident scene on the camping trip. It felt a little too unreal for the circumstances.
Overall four stars for me.
This was such a good book. I absolutely enjoyed it and look forward to reading other books by this author in the future. Great writing and wonderful storyline.
This book was a cowboy dream! Written with so much humor and life, I couldn’t put it down until I finished it!
This sweet romance will have you saying giddy-up from the start to the finish! I do wish we'd had some spice, but regardless this was still a wonderful romance novel.
I enjoyed this, but felt it wasn’t super original. I also wasn’t super connected to the characters. That said, I had fun while reading it so I won’t complain about that
Rider’s Block is a heartwarming story about Amelia, an author searching for inspiration for her book, and Eric, a grumpy yet charming cowboy. Amelia visits a ranch to spark her creativity, and despite Eric's reserved demeanor, the two form a deep and meaningful connection.
The storyline is captivating, with great chemistry between Amelia and Eric. I loved how Amelia remained true to herself, even while confronting her fears, and how Eric supported her throughout her journey. His rodeo background added an interesting layer to his character, making him even more intriguing.
Additionally, it felt like Eric was more emotionally invested in the relationship than Amelia at times, which left the balance feeling slightly off.
Overall, this book delivered a sweet and engaging romance with a unique setting. I’d recommend it to fans of contemporary romance who enjoy a mix of self-discovery and heartfelt connection.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

This was a very cute cowboy romance. I had a great time reading this book, I specially enjoyed the overall story, it was sweat, funny and emotional. The main character was really good for the plot, as her ignorance and willingness to learn was believable. The friend group was really good too and if all of this sounds good to you I would truly recommend this book to you.
That said, there were a couple of things I didn’t vibe with, particularly the storytelling. Some parts, especially the first 40%, felt a bit too rigid. And, there were minor inconsistencies throughout the book, like confusion over which character was the younger brother. I would've like seeing Eric's POV especially because his switch felt a little artificial and that made the character, at least for me, undeveloped. I just think it might've help to have his perspective to take some of the awkwardness out of the story. But, like I said, this book isn’t bad, it just had a few issues with the writing which are easy to brush over one you get into the story.
Man I love a good small town romance! This was a super cute read! I really loved the characters and the storyline!
I think as a certified horse girl...I need to approve this book!
I loved the big cowboy energy in this book. I would love to curl up in a cozy country cabin and read this book! I thought it was a very delightful read and would love to have a physical copy of this book on my shelf. I'll just be crossing my fingers that this book will become a series! Wailyn Andrews has written a romance for the girls obsessed with cowboys! This book is for fans of Lyla Sage and Elsie Silver! Amazing vibes and characters! A heart-warming read!
I liked a lot of things about this book. I loved the setting and the characters were enjoyable. My only issue with it was the pacing. It was a little slow at times for me personally.
Rider’s Block is a closed-door cowboy romance that stands out for how much respect it shows to rancher culture. The author clearly did her homework, making the story feel authentic. The FMC is strong and really in touch with her emotions and those of others, which makes her super relatable. Even without the steam, the chemistry is still there, and the romance builds at just the right pace. If you want a cowboy romance that feels real and avoids clichés, this one’s a great pick! Waitlyn - if you wanna just open that door for the next cowboy hat rule moment, would not be mad 😌
3.5
This book was amazing! I will say, the part after Amelia leaves the ranch went on for maybe a few too many pages, and the thing with her dad didn't really seem to go anywhere (though, she did seem to get some closure from that). Overall, I really liked Amelia and Eric together, I thought they were very healthy and mature, as well as her relationships with Penny and Dean. After finishing the book, I'm definitely interested in reading Waityn's first book. (I also loved the cowboy aspect, and the boot scramble scene was one of my favourites in the book).
This was really great, love a cowboy romance and especially a grumpy cowboy! The vibes were great and I loved the characters and the setting so much !

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing me this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts!
This book started my cowboy romance obsession up AGAIN! The characters and story were so cute and it was such a fun read. This book gave me all the vibes a typical Hallmark movie would, except it was in the form of a book! A grumpy cowboy paired with a city girl writer with the book being set on a ranch in Colorado. The banter Ameilia and Eric shared was great and I fell in love with Eric’s family. I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future!
Tropes:
- cowboy x city girl
- grumpy x sunshine
- slow burn
- one horse
- clean romance
A very beautiful and sweet romance, perfect for fans of Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams. I loved it. Totally recommended
Thank you, NetGalley, publisher, and author, for giving me an opportunity to read this arc. I'm currently in my cowboy appreciation era, so it was a nice treat. I liked how Eric was a grumpy cowboy but was still fairly respectful. I like how both Eric & Mia (Amelia's) became a couple in the end. Personally for me I wished Amelia could've said a bit more harsher words to her father. But I'm glad Amelia got her happy ending. The only issue I had with the story was the pacing. While I love a good slow burn it felt a bit slow at times. However, the clean romance was actually a pleasant surprise! It made me focus on the characters more. I loved the supportive family dynamic on Eric's side. Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a cute read :)
My first cowboy romance, and this was fun! I didn’t know what to expect going in, but I liked the idea of author FMC so requested this book. This was a fun ride!
**Rider's Block by Waitlyn Andrews**
From the very first page, I was completely captivated by this novel. The author skillfully crafted an inviting and immersive ranch life that drew me in instantly. I found myself falling in love with the richly developed characters—each one portrayed with depth and nuance—who demonstrated unwavering loyalty to their families and a profound love for the land they nurtured. Waitlyn Andrews’ talent for vivid and evocative descriptions of the setting not only pulled me into the story but also allowed me to viscerally experience the beauty and grit of ranch life alongside the characters. Overall, the book was a splendid achievement, and I eagerly anticipate exploring more from this talented author. It’s truly an adorable slow-burn cowboy romance that warms the heart!
You might think that after publishing nearly a dozen successful novels, Amelia would have learned her lesson about attempting to write about a setting she had never personally visited. However, her latest endeavour to break into a new genre has faced frequent and often harsh rejection. The challenge is laid out before her, and Amelia can no longer defer this long-overdue trip to Cowboy Country. She is committed to the idea of getting this book published, no matter the obstacles.
Embarking on a three-month research trip to Colorado wasn’t on Amelia's agenda for the year, but here she find myself, living in the home of Rodeo Royalty. This setting presents an ideal opportunity for immersive learning about the cowboy lifestyle, yet it is somewhat less than ideal given her unfortunate tendency to ruffle the feathers of the grumpiest cowboy in the region Eric. Both Eric and Amelia are acutely aware of her imposition on his life, but if Amelia can navigate the next three months without further irritating him, that would be a triumph in itself. And if they could manage to get through the summer without Eric once again drunkenly confessing his attraction to her—that would be an even greater victory.
As I read the story, I appreciated the peek into the country's way of life that Andrews provided, showcasing not only the thrill of rodeos but also the daily challenges and dangers that come with ranch work. The romance unfolds at a delightful slow-burn pace, allowing for a natural and believable development of feelings between Eric and Amelia. It was refreshing to see how the plot balanced their growing affection with Amelia’s journey toward lowering her emotional defences and embracing the love she had previously shied away from. Additionally, I found it particularly enjoyable that the novel contained minimal explicit content—limited to just a few heartfelt kissing scenes. This creative choice allowed me to witness the gradual build-up of trust and intimacy between Eric and Amelia, making every moment of their relationship feel authentic and rewarding.
This was a 3.5 star for me. I loved the tension at the start of the book, but the payoff wasn’t there for me.
Amelia is a writer from the city working on a cowboy romance. She’s never been to a ranch though, and it shows. Her book keeps getting rejected and she’s looking for a way to learn more. A friend of hers has family out in Colorado, so Amelia decides to immerse herself in cowboy culture for a bit.
One thing that was odd to me is she left her cat with the friend this whole time. Why not bring the cat?? I’d never leave mine behind for that long. However, I digress.
Eric is a cowboy on the ranch. He seems surly and grumpy and whatnot. He goes from glaring at Amelia to calling her “baby” as soon as he decides on his own terms that he wants to pursue her. However, he kind of passively pursues her and doesn’t really declare his interest for a long time. Even while calling her “baby,” though they haven’t been physical.
The tension was great at the beginning and their meet-cute was amazing. The second half of the book kind of fell off for me. Our FMC became insecure all off a sudden and wasn’t listening to the MMC. He would say something and she’d run to a friend thinking the opposite.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my advanced digital copy!
